Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

What do you suppose the hockey budgets are like at those schools?

Are you implying that they might be less than Maine's? If so, appears some of them know how to get bang for their buck. So what's Maine's excuse?

Oh, yeah, I know. And it's hard to recruit at Maine.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Did not see this on here yet, twitter report states recruit Ryan Cloonan has decomitted from Maine.

Whatever. If you read the article it's clear they're not talking about the likes of Maine.

OMG. Stop everyone. So this years schedule sucks. What do you expect from a program that has fallen to this level over the last few years. If I was a quality team I wouldn't schedule Maine either. It WILL get better. For chrissst sakes. Chill. let Red do his thing then we'll have quality opponents back at Alfond for OOC games. Stop wanting instant gratification for every goddammmn aspect of this program. We've chit the bed. It's gonna take a little time to rebound. Jeez.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

And, just winning a lot of HEA games will take care of the possibly-weak OOC-SOS factor. (More easily said than done, yes, but that opportunity exists for Maine.)

Furthermore, with all the parity that exists in D-1 now, no one really knows how the PW will shake-out. (Remember how many of us were disappointed that the Q was on the schedule, before they steam-rolled their way into the NC game?)

I would not have a clue. But, what is your point?
Are you saying that Maine's budget is lower than AIC's? and therefore Maine is doing well staying ranked in the 40's nationally, while AIC is ranked 50-ish-th?
Or are you saying that Maine's is more and therefore Maine has been doing poorly recently because of the loss to Bentley and RIT's more recent trip to the FF?

I think the main point is that MaineHockey has, as you put it, fallen to this level, but not only are the games at the ALfond nowhere near as worthy of our cash, but nobody up North seems to realize that their first step to get the fans back is to lower the ticket prices.

Lowell, for the past few seasons, has been handing out stacks of tickets at local middle schools JUST to get the arena as close to full as possible. There is more excitement there, AND concessions are being sold. Niether of which was the case at the 30% full, but, as priceless reminds us 80% sold Alfond

My point is, if you read the article, they are not talking about huge state schools who have fallen on hard times like Michigan State or Maine. They are talking about tiny hockey schools, primarily in the AHA, who are having trouble scheduling teams, primarily from out west, in their home arenas. Wisconsin is more than happy to have AIC in for a weekend and Denver/CC will welcome Niagara and Canisius with open arms. Think we'll see a return trip anytime soon? For that matter, do you think Maine will be making a return trip to AIC next year?

The reasons teams like RIT, Canisius, Robert Morris and Bentley have difficulty scheduling teams for home OOC contests is entirely different from why Maine has a problem scheduling a full complement of games against anyone.

Maybe Yale will come to Alford.

That's fine, but if you are going to put together a terrible schedule, charge us less money for tickets!

He certainly had his moments on both sides of the spectrum... When he was good, he was impressive, and when he was bad, he was really bad.

I'm rooting for him, in any case.

Was he the little girl who had a little curl?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

That shut them up.;)

Or people just got sick of arguing.

Most reasonable people agree that ticket prices are too high (particularly in light of what UHN offers) but the U isn't going to deviate off that $50 price point for a while - and when they do it will go up.

On another note, Tyler Walsh will not be continuing at Maine :( He accepted a job as the DHO/Video Coordinator at Canisius.

Impressive comeback for Darling...always thought he was pretty special, I saw him run a 1-0 win against UNH in Manchester NH and later found out he was likely boozed up for the occasion which was baffling

I was at that game too. It's admirable of him to persevere like he has, and to now be in the AHL. Hopefully he'll keep improving and become one of Milwaukee's best.
