Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

2015 ice breaker will be in Portland at the CCCC.
My early guess at a lineup: Maine, <s>Michigan State</s> Michigan, Denver, Union

Michigan State has been in the tournament four times and it seems that is the current max. BC, BU, Minnesota and Notre Dame will all have four appearances after 2014. 2015 will be Maine's fourth appearance.

So with Hockey East hosting, the most likely lineup is Wisconsin (3) or Michigan (2) from the BTHC, Denver (2) or North Dakota (3) from the LTHC and then Union (2) from the ECAC. Penn State would be an interesting choice (BTHC) as the new program in college hockey. Other candidates would be the AHA's Army (2) or Air Force (2) or St Lawrence (3) from the ECAC.

I was thinking more like Soo, Fairbanks, Houghton, Bemdji, and Huntsville.
The way conferences are currently constructed, no team from the WCHA has hosted. Only Bowling Green (2001) and Northern Michigan (2002) have been in the tournament. Having the tournament in Alaska would be counterproductive, as games played there are already exempt from the 34-game maximum. Huntsville plays in a 6800 seat arena so they could certainly host in 2016.

Maine is paying the travel and lodging costs for the three Ice Breaker teams and a $75K guarantee to College Hockey Inc. It appears the athletic department is prepared to spend money to receive national recognition and to perhaps improve recruiting. By the time CCCC gets it's share there isn't much left for Maine. Great exposure for Maine and should pay off in the future.

maybe instead of selling the tickets at the CCCC for $50 a piece, they should price them around $400 apiece, think of all the money they woudl rake in!

Let's hope they get it right!

Take Maine's lowest attended home game from last year and multiply it by $50 and you get $187K. There is no possibility they lose money at this event, plus they get to schedule 2 extra out of conference games (opportunities for extra revenue) for being in this tournament and this is guaranteed cash.

Are you a STH at BU? Or know anyone who was when BU hosted the event in 2008? Was the Ice Breaker included in the season ticket package or was it separate? There are people in Bangor who don't want to make the trip down and are afraid they'll get charged for games they aren't going to attend.

I doubt that it'll be included in the season ticket packages, but even if they were included I'm sure fans who for whatever the reason were not able to make the trip down would be able to find plenty of people who they may know that would love to buy their tickets off of them, but I bet it's a separate deal altogether.

There's plenty of people in Southern Maine that would buy up tickets who aren't season ticket holders and rarely make it up to Orono for a game, and I'm sure it would sell out with Maine fans alone, even though other schools are sure to get an allotment of their own tickets too.

Amazing how they were crying poverty when this years' pathetic schedule was released.........but they don't seem to have much of a problem coming up with $100K+ to host this tourney..............huh.

It was not included at BU, season ticket holders were given right of refusal for their seats though, not that this would be the case for you guys since it's not at Alfond.

This is easy money, they will make a profit and are not "coming up with $100K+" at worst they have to front the transportation and lodging costs before selling the tickets and making it back. See my previous post for math.
