Wow, I'm shocked at the HD and very happy about it. Awesome

I think Maine fans will be pleasantly surprised at some of the things the administration does in the coming months to show that they care about hockey and realize to get something you got to spend a little. Part of the evaluation process of coach Whitehead involved re-thinking the overall needs of the program and I've been told that the admin knows to compete in HE it will need to re-commit to the program. A few upcoming changes will see huge rewards for the hockey program going forward.

Learfield Sports and the athletic department come through with an outstanding broadcasting package. I've seen Pack Network broadcasts and they are high quality.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

It will be interesting to see what games they choose to televise. If the ABC affiliate chooses the Friday night games, it will preempt 3 network shows. "Last Man Standing," "The Neighbors" and "Shark Tank" air in the 8, 8:30 and 9:00 time slots. If they choose Saturday nights, they would be preempting the ABC Saturday Night College Football broadcast (in the fall, no idea what ABC will do in Jan/Feb). Depending on what other schools FCS will cover this season, all 14 home games *could* be broadcast. There may also be broadcasts by NESN and NBCSN.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I'm guessing mostly Friday night games during college football season and then either Friday or Saturday for second semester.

So more than likely:

10/25 vs UMass (NC)
11/8 vs Vermont
11/15 vs Boston U
11/23 vs Boston C
12/7 vs Lowell
2/14 (or 15) vs Merrimack
2/28 (or 3/1) vs Providence

Not sure if the affiliate would be interested in airing the UHN game on a Sunday vs the NFL conference championship games. The Bentley and AIC games are not likely to appeal to them.

That Sunday game will almost certainly be picked up by ESPNU.

Also, let's compare UNH and Maine's home schedules.

SAME
BU x1
BC x1
Each other x1
Lowell x1
UMass x1
Vermont x2
Early Canadian Exhibition (Acadia/UNH Dalhousie/Maine) x1

UNH Additional
Michigan x2
Brown x1
Northeastern x1
Harvard x1
Omaha x2
Union x2
Notre Dame x2

Maine Additional
Bentley x1
UMass x1
American International x2
Canadian Exhibition x2
Merrimack x2
Providence x2

I know we've been over the schedule ad nauseum, but Maine has put together an absolute joke of a home slate this year. I understand that not all of it is necessarily fixable (HEA deciding to destroy everything good about the league by admitting Notre Dame gets a heaping of the blame), but the fans are getting screwed.

The residuals of the situation. The person in charge seeing the writing on the wall and all. A long slow f both ways. Let's just hope the season games are taken serious next season so that Maine has a chance at the playoffs. That is - the ncaa playoffs. But it isn't a reflection of the new staff and with all that we wished for, if all we have to beach about is this lackluster schedule and how the BU women fans have unusually thick mustaches... then we are gonna be ok. :D

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Just came here to post this. I'm glad that SOMEONE in the media is willing to say something about the ticket prices/schedule fiasco.

Great new recruit in. The future looks bright, but there still seems to be a disconnect between the Athletic Department and its fan base. The Bangor area is in rougher shape than most as far as the economy goes, and yet the ticket prices are as high if not higher at the Alfond than anywhere else in the league. I know one of the big issues for the program seems to be fundraising, but they're alienating the fan base when they gouge the fans with ticket prices the way they've been with their strategy of $50 seats for getting folks to donate.

With games in HD at home I'm sure it will be more appealing for a lot of people to watch most games at home and only go to a handful. I hope they get their act together, having a half full arena certainly isn't going to help the program.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

After Paul Kariya was selected fourth overall in the NHL draft there were a parade of agents after him. He elected to sign with Don Baizley who recently died at the age of 71 from non-smoking lung cancer. Here's a very informative article.

Well, is it now that all 4 scholarship athletes from the Kariya family are now even out of the pros. Well, how can it be that the family had so much trust in UMaine and yet there isn't an ounce of "hey, the Kariyas want to give back". Strange. It seems to me we are in this weird conundrum of some players or former coaches wanting to do what they can(Corkum, Kerluke) but it is convoluted by some sort of idiocy. On top of that I can't imagine with the money Kariya made as a pro and his family going to Maine... he and his family won't contribute to Maine's success. Baffles me, probably because I haven't made multi millions of dollars???

What about a coach Kariya. Even a coaching job or something. This is the most bizarre twilight zone. It is if nobody associated with this program wants to give back or stand behind it(and when Corkum did he was thwarted and or lacking in strength).

Well, at least Guite will. And Guite has stood up to a heckuva lot of scrutiny as a player when he dumbed Mowers from behind in the Whitt at a Govener's Cup. Couldn't ask for a better Maine player to stand behind his team. Old door step Guite. I am pretty sure Maine will remedy their power play under Guite's watch. Wish we had a Brian White or a AJ Begg as the volunteer assistant to help coach the D.

I wasn't aware that donor lists were public. Perhaps you can enlighten us by showing us where you get this information.
