Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Massachusetts for 2, Vermont for 2, BU, BC, Umass Lowell, New Hampshire, Merrimack for 2 and Providence for 2 isnt that terrible of a schedule...Its only really missing a couple solid out of conference games... I don't see why everyones so critical of this home schedule

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Amen! People should take a wait and see approach for this season and just purchase individual game tix. At least next season we will have an idea how this team is developing under Gendron in addition to having 2 home games vs. Notre Dame and maybe a decent OOC series.

In order for the hockey program to succeed long term, it requires money from both the University and it's fans. When Gendron accepted the job he admitted that he needed financial resources to be successful. The University apparently gave him that assurance. Without financial support from both fans and administration the program will continue in mediocrity with an occasional strong year or two. There was an application to join FOMH in the season ticket renewal envelope. For those who are unable to go to most games or are unhappy with the schedule, consider supporting the program by being members of FOMH.

So only wealthy fans need apply? I completely understand the program needs money, and everyone should do what they can, but I don't think that justifies the department in charging way more than they should for tickets. Look at last year, Maine was coming off a season in which they were HEA finalists and made the NCAA's and the rink was half full most of the time. Charge fair prices, play good hockey, then both the money and fans will be there.

That doesn't mean they can charge $50 for seats at center ice, or $23 for others. Drop the price to something more reasonable (35/15) and the place will start to fill up. Once you're back to sell outs, ticket prices can go back up (supply and demand). Right now there is no demand and they are still charging like there was.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

The dumb bahstids think that just by a name change behind the bench the fans will be all out to pick up season tickets that have gone unsold under whiteheads tenure. It aint happening until they start playing better hockey and then filling the seats. They have it azz backwards as usual. Phercrissakes, the money will come if they stop pizzing off the fans with outrageoius ticket prices.

$50 a ticket....buwhahahahah, what a joke. I wouldnt have paid that when kariya's gang was playing .

I just got an email from UHN about purchasing season tickets (don't recall ever receiving an email from UM about season tickets) and I notice slight differences that are summed up in this picture:

MHOC2013_RELEASE_FINAL.JPG

20 games for less than $20 apiece. Nice pricing.

A season ticket comes with these benefits as well:

Purchase a full season ticket package averaging under $20 per game! This is an average savings of $5 per game and $100 for the season if games were purchased individually.
Meet with the team and coaches at various events throughout the year including a "Summer Skate" and "Open House".
First right of refusal to renew your same seats each season for $0 down with the ability pay over 5 months.
Opportunity to purchase additional tickets to all individual home games before the general public through the Whittemore Center Box Office without paying additional fees.
Guaranteed discounted seating in the lower bowl, or premium upper bowl, at the Verizon Wireless Arena for the 2014 game vs. Dartmouth.
First right of refusal to purchase your same seats for the Hockey East Quarterfinal series at the Whittemore Center Arena, at a discount, should UNH host.
Access to discounted ticket packages for the Hockey East Championship at the TD Garden and the NCAA Northeast Regional tickets at the Verizon Wireless Arena when UNH hosts.
Access to two complimentary tickets for all home games during the 2013-14 UNH women’s hockey regular season.
Ability to purchase tickets to away games before general public.
Ability to forward, re-sell, exchange or donate your season tickets online via “My Wildcat Account Manager” for games you cannot attend.
Ability to participate in amnesty nights : Bring your unused tickets from past games in the fall and exchange them for tickets to a game during winter break. Click on the amnesty night tile for more information.
Opportunity to win premium prize packages for season ticket holder of the year. Past prizes included free season tickets and a vacation voucher for two!

Suppose anyone in Orono is paying attention?

Thanks for posting that. It shows you how out of touch the athletic department is with its fan base. Raising ticket prices to $50 between the blue lines in the lower bowl was shameful. I hope someone in the administration up at UMaine is paying attention, like you said.

Just went to the site to order. Front row behind the net = $16. Front row behind UHN bench (1 available) = $19. 2nd row behind visitor bench is also $19. With the Amtrak connecting Brunswick straight to Durham it could be quite the bargain....2 miles to get to the train on my end and Whit is a block or two from the depot in Durham. Awfully tempting.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Thanks for the link, I think you just cleared it up. Dan and Tim are also members of the coaching staff.

Were Dan and Tim grandfathered into this gig? I can't see why in the world they would be representing Maine at this juncture, otherwise.

Benedict Arnold! ;)

The schedules for Maine and UHN line up very well. Most weekends Maine is on the road they have home games and vice versa. I figure I could make 14 UHN games and still make all Maine home games. 15 if I chose the second Michigan game over Maine-Bentley...all that travel would put a strain on the budget though.

What was the thinking (strategy?) behind that move. How many seats were affected and what % were sold?

There are 1198 of the $50 seats in Alfond. I don't know how many have been sold on a seasonal basis, but last season I looked at the Friday night Northeastern game three weeks out. 898 of the 1198 (75%) were sold. When I did the study (2/11/13) Maine was averaging 82.1% capacity. That means the $23 tickets had sold at an 84.2% rate. I'm guessing almost all of the purchases for the $50 ticket were of the full season variety - I don't see too many people dropping $50/seat on a game vs Northeastern. Especially considering plenty of $23 options remained available.

That's understandable. NU couldn't sell many tickets to our home game with Maine last year. Let's face it. Neither team was a joy to watch last year. We simply had poorer goaltending and better injuries that your Bears. As Maine is my second favorite team (I have a second home in Lyman), I look forward to better things from each team this season. Good luck.

BTW those same center ice tickets at Matthews will cost around $16. I guess there is too much local competition for the fans $ on Friday and Saturday nights (and unlike bu, NU and BC can't sell beer).

Actually closer than that. The train station is right out the doors at the visitors end of the arena. In fact before the station was refurbished a few years ago the self service machine for train tickets was in the Whitt lobby.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Bob Corkum will be with the Islanders in player development per Lee Goldberg. The Isles are turning into a southern branch of the UMaine Hockey Alumni Association.

The reason those tickets cost $50 is because they are DONATION SEATS,people buying them fork over a DONATION FEE every year...ranging from $500 to $1000/not including there season ticket cost...I asked about it and they ONLY sell them for $50 because they don't sell them as regular available seating because WHY should people DONATE a FEE while others get a seat that they didn't Donate and buy season tickets...some may understand and some may not...but if you don't believe it then contact Mike Hodgson(BBC) or Joe Roberts(Asso. Athletic Director). If you want those seats at the regular price then have someone that DONATES order those tickets and they sell them to the DONORS for the regular fee...like I said ask Hodgson or Roberts(I did and that's the answer I received, and yes I am a Donator/Season Ticket Holder).

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Season ticket renewals are now available online. I just bought three.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Also, let's compare UNH and Maine's home schedules.

SAME
BU x1
BC x1
Each other x1
Lowell x1
UMass x1
Vermont x2
Early Canadian Exhibition (Acadia/UNH Dalhousie/Maine) x1

UNH Additional
Michigan x2
Brown x1
Northeastern x1
Harvard x1
Omaha x2
Union x2
Notre Dame x2

Maine Additional
Bentley x1
UMass x1
American International x2
Canadian Exhibition x2
Merrimack x2
Providence x2

I know we've been over the schedule ad nauseum, but Maine has put together an absolute joke of a home slate this year. I understand that not all of it is necessarily fixable (HEA deciding to destroy everything good about the league by admitting Notre Dame gets a heaping of the blame), but the fans are getting screwed.
