Must be nice........I guess that UNB has more money than UMO.

Why do you care? As I've said before, you're not going to a game if Maine plays Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Denver on back to back weekends. If you just want to complain, go join the choir on MBR.

Done deal according to Goldberg, Leach and Guite are the new Assts. Lots of NHL experience, guys who can speak French, ties to Maine. Wonder who gets goalies?
Maybe Standbrook comes in as a Consultant at Training Camp and does some Volunteer work on the side for Gendron and his Staff.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Am I the only one wondering why Goldberg is the only one who has said that Guite and Leach have landed the a.c. jobs?

The fact that Goldberg isn't really big on Maine hockey makes it more believable. He's not going to go out on a limb. If he's reporting it, my guess is he's got a solid source. Maybe Gendron himself?

Could very well be,but I've looked around and ask many that are in the so called "in the know"...and they say that indeed Guite and Leach are being considered along with a few others, including Ben Murphy...I guess we will hear it soon/maybe the start of the week.

Goritti said it also and he has been a step ahead of everyone in this process

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Not according to Lee Goldberg! They've mentioned it on a TV news broadcast too that has been picked up as far south as New Hampshire.

I was told, and haven't heard it from anyone else, that WABI reported the assistants have been picked. Anyone else hear/see it?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Anyone got gossip on the volunteer assistant? Who might it be? Neither Leach nor Guite have goaltending knowledge, D experience.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Isn't Red keeping it open for Grant?
Gendron has spoken highly of Standbrook but nothing really has been put in place to date...any input from Standbrook would be a plus, but don't count on him being around the team during a full season.

Can we just stop all this talk about Grant Standbrook......the guy is like 98 years old and retired. Time to start being more realistic!

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I'd take Frddy at his word... i believe he is a UNB fan that posts in here because they play exhibition games against NCAA teams

Thank you for the character reference! :) I'm a longtime broadcaster for UNB hockey games on radio and province-wide TV, and until recently wrote the game recaps for the V-Reds website. And of course ... a big fan of AUS, CIS and NCAA hockey!

UNB head coach Gardiner MacDougall prefers to keep everyone waiting and not release their exhibition schedule until the late summer. However, with DU and CC both posting the game on their website schedules, his hand was forced a bit as folks in Fredericton started asking questions. I can tell you that I've known about the road trip for almost a year, but the agreement is that those in the know have to wait until Coach decides to release the new ... much to the consternation of local media.

The story about the Colorado trip was posted in the Fredericton Daily Gleaner, but unfortunately they are behind a paywall, so I couldn't post you a link. They still haven't posted it on the V-Reds website (but to be fair, their SID was at national SID workshops and then the CIS AGM).

Btw, in case you weren't aware, CIS teams play 28 games a season, all within their conference. There is no out of conference play. Individual CIS teams will often arrange pre-season exhibition games with out of conference CIS teams, sometimes in a weekend tournament . There are also a handful of holiday exhibition tournaments between Christmas and New Year's. Other than that, when teams meet at the University Cup they are often playing each other for the first time that season.

Funny he has been helping out Jim Montgomery @ Dubuque of the USHL the last 3 years...and I bet if he's not giving tid-bits of advice to UMaine that he may well give JM a helping hand out West with Denver...he maybe OLD in your eyes but a very WISE man in the game of College Hockey to go along with be a Class Act of a person. Not saying Full Time but as a Consultant during Training Camp would not hurt Maine's 3 Netminders(Ouellette/Sullivan & Morris).
