Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Good to see a certain segment of the local fan base have moved on from the improbable scenario of Bob Corkum retaining his assistant's job, to the mind-bendingly improbable scenario of Downeast Derek Damon smoothly transitioning from the depths of low-level, high-earning Euro semipro hockey to a volunteer assistant's job in Orono, complete with absolutely zero coaching and/or scouting experience. Refreshing to see such "outside of the box" thinking.

Honestly, Tyler Walsh would be more qualified to fill such a position, even at this early point in his career. But it looks like he's (very intelligently) off to building up his resume elsewhere. Maybe in a few years Red will call him *home* to further his development in the barn that made his dad famous (or "infamous" elsewhere). Good luck Tyler. :)

Tylar Walsh makes the most sense to come back.

It's to bad his other son Travis is at MSU.

Where did you see this about Tyler?

Exactly. I erroneously posted that it was a done deal in the Facebook group but Tyler set me straight. It isn't done yet but it is a position he is seeking (and will likely get). By title it will not be "Director of Hockey Operations" (that's Paul Culina) but will likely be an administrative role which will include him breaking down game film as he has done in previous years as an undergrad. However, I'm waiting until the university announces it before I congratulate him again :p

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Please tell me that Red will be improving the OOC schedule after this coming seasons' crapfest line-up.......???? At least we get Notre Dame at home for 2 in 2014-2015. One thing that I didn't realize about the Cross Center is that seating capacity is 7,300 (6,000 stationary + 1,300 telescopic). For some reason over the past couple of years the media has been reporting the stationary seating as "permanent".......but not including the telescopic seating (which are exactly the same cushioned seats with cupholders!).......DUH! The telescopic seating IS permanent, dummies! Folding chairs on the floor are NOT permanent........only in Bangor, Maine would they mix this stuff up. So what I am getting at with my rambling rant........ice hockey capacity in the Cross Center is likely at least 7,000.........too bad that they don't have ice making capability.

I know, but other than BC, BU, and UNH......those may be the only "decent" games on the home schedule. Then again with teams like UML, Merrimack and Providence making a splash.....who knows? Man.......Maine has at least 7 programs to climb over at this point. Thanks TIMMAY!

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

That's pathetic. TIMMAY the a-hole.......see ya you piece of crap!:)

I thought Shawn's wife and eldest did nothing for the program; why should another son be any different?

Mercyhurst released the schedule: No Maine.

The NC games at Quinnipiac are 10/18+19 (meaning hockey won't be home for Homecoming) and Vermont are 11/29+30. Current schedule:

2 NC games left, including the one in Portland. January 3+4 appears to be the only available dates for a pair (Jan 3 in Portland, Jan 4 in Orono). Teams that have open dates for that weekend AND have two OOC games available are: Michigan State, Penn State and (wait for it) Canisius. The other option is to break it up and play one NC opponent in Portland and have a single game against another opponent.

Isn't Maine going to have at least one home game before the end of October? I would think they would do something like last year and have one exhibition game and one real game. I hope this is the last year we see a schedule this wretched.

Maine must be playing October 4-5(at least one game that weekend)...I can't see them starting the Season the 2nd week of October(@ST.L/Oct.11-12)

That may the answer... exhibition game vs UNB on the 4th, OOC on the 5th, and then the Portland game and an EXH vs the USNDT on January 3rd\4th with one in Portland and one in Orono

priceless... care to go through who has single open dates on those two weekends?
