$379 round trip from Portland to South Bend by plane. One stop in Chicago. Risky flying through Chicago in winter. Probably other itineraries available, just a quick search.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Appears that it is very difficult to find an associate coach with experience for the money that is available. How much longer is Red going to allow Leach to play him along?

This appears to be par for the course the way everything else has gone isn't it?

Guy lives in Bangor and took a paycut when he left the job as associate head coach to work as an NHL scout. That is one option where money might not be an obstacle (but less coaching experience compared to Leach). I hear there is also someone available in Bangor with head coaching experience (and I'm not talking about Jack) :P

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I'm not worried.

It's not as if Yale was running Red out of town. And as much as it may be true that Red feels loyalty to Maine, he's under no illusions about how difficult a job he's got. I doubt he'd have accepted if he didn't think he could hire assistants.

The basic problem is that being associate at Maine is not exactly a dream job for the caliber of candidate that we're talking about (e.g., Leach). I'd rather see Red aim high and end up swinging and missing a couple times rather than immediately settle.

And he'll find someone. Because while it isn't a dream job for someone who wants an NHL gig, there are still lots of guys for whom working under Red is a good way to get a great reference on the resume.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I'm not convinced we need an experienced coach as the associate coach either. Take a look at UML, Providence, Merrimack staffs. All young assistants who want to prove themselves.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Does anyone else feel like things have already improved around Maine Hockey? It certainly seems like there is a freer flow of information now..........and a more positive attitude around the program.

Does this include positivity from your end?

ummm... UML, Providence, and Merrimack all have an associate coach with alot of experience. Jamie Russel and Glen Stewart are both in their 40s and have been around the block. Jason Lammers is 38 and took the UML job with 10 years of college coaching experience... Maine needs to hire someone who has a clue who the players are or else they going to be in trouble. I dont care how good of coaches you have up there---if you dont have good playersthere are no amount of Xs and Os that will help... Ben Guite doesnt know a single player right now that could make Maine better...

Completely forgot about the civic center renovation. No Portland game this season.

Sure.......I love everything not associated with Tim Whitehead.........I love how Gendron has handled himself and what he has said, I love the Ben Guite pick for assistant coach, I love the fact he has involved Maine fans again. I don't like next season's schedule........but that is Tim Whitehead's doing........and if some of it has do with finances.........that is his doing as well because revenues have fallen so much.

Officially, or are you speculating? We played in the old CMCC so we have a history of playing in dilapidated buildings. :p
