Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Would that be maybe some adjustments made in the locker room between periods?

or red went in and busted a half dozen composites and told them to pull their heads out of their posteriors....

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

ouellette has played well tonight, but he has also been fighting it... two crossbars... got caught cheating on umass' second goal....

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

s. swavely with the shorty. 7-2 Maine.

Maine scored 6 goals total in 3 games vs. Umass last season.

Anthoine with a desperation clear off the boards goes all the way down for an empty net SH goal

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

carlton's boys better be ready to throw a ten spot or better on Umass if they're supposed to be the godlike specimens that he makes them out to be.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

The last time Maine scored 8 in a game was an 8-2 win over Lowell in the home opener on October 8, 2010.
The last time Maine won 3 consecutive games at home was from January 4-February 17, 2012 (6 straight vs UVM, BC, BC, UAH, UAH, UMA)
The last sweep at home was February 3-4, 2012 (vs UAH).
It looks like the last time Maine scored 6 in a period was November 15, 2002 against Northeastern, but I'll check that tomorrow.

Goalies for both teams (Wakaluk, Ouellette) registered assists.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Maine is still running hot and cold, effort-wise.

They stumbled out of the gate, fell asleep in 3rd, and hung Marty out to dry during both spans of time. (Rutt's complacency on that one late UMass goal was particularly inexcusable.)

The freshman seem to have no Timmy hangover to overcome, though, which is encouraging.

The 1st star of this game was my boy Byron. He's been a standout in all four Maine games I've seen this season, and we might well see him in The Show someday, if he keeps doing what he's doing... Easily the best player on Maine right now.

Maine football beats Villanova, wow

536 total yards on the road v. a tough opponent..? This team is definitely not a flash in the pan at 7-0 v. FCS competition.

The Maine playbook is so diverse, and the execution is so crisp... I just don't how I'd attempt to prepare for them as an opposing DC.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Fun time in Alfond last night, Maine was flatfooted at first but came out of it by the end of the 1st, totally different in 2nd, they just smoked Umass. Sloppy in 3rd but tough to stay focused when the win was all but assured. I'll bet Red has something to say about that today in practice. One thing to remember, UMass had a freshman goalie in there I doubt Maine scores 8 against the guy who played the night before. a great weekend for the team and hopefully they can go into amherst and get a few points. Tough place to play

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Freshman goalie, true, but a lot of Maine's scorers were freshmen too. But you're right, if Umass had come back with the same goalie, this game might very well have been quite different

But what you're seeing is 'coaching' at work. After the SLU(t) series, Red said they were gonna work on high speed skill building and passing drills, and we're seeing the results of this already. Not holding the puck too long, or hesitating when they have a shot. I'd guess drilling at high speed helps a lot with that, instead of practicing half speed and then expecting to be able to handle it when it comes at you at game speed.

Greg Moore scored one of the best goals one of the best goals I've ever seen from a Maine player that period. He went coast to coast then roofed one. Does anyone else remember this? It was before the days when games were streamed online and I doubt a lot of Maine fans have ever even seen it, which is too bad.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Planning to drive over to see Friday's game... And, just as I did v. SLU, I'm hoping for a split, but won't be surprised by a UMass sweep.

Well Fish, .....Maine sweeps a decent UMass team at Alfond. A lot of positives (Freshmen/ 8 goals in a game/ speed & stamina) and plenty to work on (soft goals allowed by Marty/ inconsistency from period to period/ PP etc). This is a major shift in every way from a year ago. It ain't gonna happen overnight, but it's gonna happen.

D-1 hockey has been anything but predictable so far in this young season. #2 Wisconsin comes East and gets creamed by BC then BU - lets in 16 goals in 2 nights. #1 UML has a terrible start and drops to #19. UMass sweeps Mich State. Mich State beats BU who last weekend smoked Wisconsin. Providence beats and ties Miami. Maine sweeps UMass. None of this means a lot yet, but we weren't having this conversation last year at this time. We were screaming for Whitehead's head. And we got it. Momentum is a very powerful thing. Can't you feel it?

Red was a great choice, doesn't have a loaded roster, and is going to develop more out of these players in his first season than one would ever expect. Will they win Hockey East? Probably not. Will they make the NCAA tourney? Probably not. Will they crawl out of the 300' deep abyss that Whitehead took them down? Already well underway.

And not for nothin' but Denver ain't exactly lighting it up so far either. Monty, Monty, Monty......

I'm looking for a lift to next Saturday's game in Amherst. I've got to pick up a car in the area. I can perhaps score tickets.

Remember it very well! At Matthews, coast to coast freshmen year I think. I remember that Niko's mom was at the game and I said to her he where's that #15 well.

Nice to see so many freshmen get their first last night. Team still has lots to work on, but at least they are learning to WIN!

They sure did, but I was referring to the two games at the Mullin's, not that I made that clear at all.

Saw both games this past weekend and there was definite improvement over the two I saw at SLU. We've decided to go to Amherst on Friday as a result, but this team is still a work in progress, and I'm not counting my chickens just yet... If UMass plays Wakaluk both nights it might be a long weekend for Maine; he looked very good on Friday in Orono.

PS: Am I the only one on here who thinks Byron is as close to a blue-chippa as Maine has right now..? I love his game so far.
