True. When they covered North Dakota hockey it was brutal. The football game last weekend looked better so hopefully the feed has improved since Dakota days.

Thanks. I had to call down to Time Warner yesterday. Peally ****es me off how they offer all these deals to lure new customers in, but they don't offer them to existing one's unless you call and ask for them. For anyone else in Southern Maine, the expanded sports package will run you an extra 8.99/month and it does include Fox College Sports Atlantic, and they are offering other new deals on their cable/internet/phone package, tho none of them great.

That was the best flurry of insightful posts I've seen in a while... Good work, guys.

Yes, Maine's recent woes were a group effort: if it wasn't the O in a given year, it was the 'tending or the D, depending on what season you want to dissect.

It was always something, though; Maine hasn't put a team on the ice in several years that didn't have at least one glaring weakness.

I agree with most of you that the only hope for Maine to get back to relevance anytime soon is to actually recruit a couple of outstanding scorers every year, while conducting a careful cull of the returning journeymen, and putting a premium on goaltending... Not at all sure that it can be accomplished, but that's what's required.

Yet, to be fair, this year's team is probably more balanced than any in quite a while; they do everything pretty well, aside from scoring. (Too bad that it's very difficult/nearly-impossible to win 20+ games 1-0, 2-1, etc. )

PS: Just heard an interview with Blake James on ESPN... How the $h/t did he get the Miami job, pursuant to his disastrous resume at Maine?

To an outsider, his resume wasn't disastrous. The Learfield deal proved lucrative (even though it torqued off one of the school's highest profile benefactors). Also, Miami was facing pretty substantial NCAA penalties so he might have been brought in as a caretaker to see the U through the bad time and then discarded for someone more competent for the rebuilding...of course now Miami is pretty much off the hook with the NCAA so how long he stays depends on his job performance from here on out.

Why couldn't one of the two upcoming home games against UMASS count as a conference game? The following weekend one of those games could count as a league game for a total of two. This would give each team a home league game.

i assume they set the league schedule, then teams fill in around the league schedule with their out of conference matchups....

The first 1500 fans to Friday night's game get thundersticks. Haven't they been banned yet?

You have a point, but Tim's inexplicable extension via James was a huge red flag from my perspective.

(Guess Miami brushed-off that farce as chump-change/Old Boy Network stuff.)

To an outsider (or someone with a narrow field of vision) it was lucrative. But it could have actually cost the U $$ in the long run, depending on Stephen's donations. I don't pretend to know what they are, but it is quite possible that his donations fell by more than what Learfield out-bid his outfit by.
