Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

I think a fan may have a legit right to be upset or feel mistreated. The fan is the customer, the onus is on team or arena staff to provide an explanation if asking a fan to move or sit elsewhere. The high road should be taken by the arena staff if there's a reason for asking a fan to move. Providing that reason is an exceptable expectation for the fan.

Do you know that it wasn't? And again, what is gained by making a nasty comment towards a volunteer coach without even knowing if he was really the bad guy or just the messenger? He may very well have been singled out, or maybe we don't know the story. But either way there's no way to know if it was this kids fault, and even if a wrong occurred it's not necessary to take shots at someone on here when you have a chance to take the high road...especially over a year later. Gotta be a miserable life holding a grudge for that long over something that in the grand scheme of things in this life is pretty freaking minor

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

You are silly. You let a 22, 23(?) year old volunteer get you in a huff over asking (or harassing, as you call it) you to move to a different seat? There is clearly more to it than that that you either aren't aware of or perhaps aren't being forthcoming about.

Doesn't matter...either way it's comical that you wouldn't go back to a FREE game to support the players, who did nothing to you, all because of something like that. It's childish. You took your ball and went home and held a grudge for over a year just to take a shot at him on the internet when he left the program...and you still don't even know if he was the one behind asking you to move or if he was just the messenger who may or may not have done a good job communicating the reason behind his request... or maybe you just didn't want to hear it. I don't know Kevin personally but I know people in the athletic department at Maine and they say he is one of the quietest and most docile people to work there. Doesn't really jive with the story you're telling here but, we'll never really know what happened, especially since you were so destroyed by what happened and are obviously emotionally invested in this.

At least you got the last word over him here. Congrats on that. I'm glad you can go back to the games now that the big bad bully is out of the way.

It was better to stay away than start a fight at a womens game. I guarantee that no other coach in the country ever tells a fan to move. I will be there on October 20th sitting in that same seat.

You'd start a fight over something like that? You couldn't control yourself? Wow. I don't think anything else needs to be said.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

It's done and over with.

Yes it's over now because you got the last word in here. What is sad is that it apparently wasn't over a year and a half ago since you held a grudge for so long and couldn't go back to the games for fear you'd start a fight(!?!?!?)

Do any of the coaches at the University of Wisconsin tell you to move during games? Maybe I took it the wrong way but when 200 people a game show up one would think the coaches would be happy you are there

Nope, and if that was all that was said to me I'd probably be upset for about 10 minutes and then I'd get over it and move to another seat because I love hockey and I love watching the efforts that the players put forward.

But again, I highly doubt we are getting the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Not because you're being dishonest necessarily, but I'm guessing you really don't know what was going on or why you were being asked and it's perfectly reasonable to think that you did not know because a 22 or 23 year old kid did a poor job of expressing to you what the situation was and why you were being asked to move and someone else may not have been. And even then, if he was asked by someone else to confront you, which is also plausible, he may not even have really understood himself why he was asking you to move and when you questioned it all he could come back with was "I have no idea" or "Because I'm the coach and I'm asking you to."

If anything it makes him guilty of not asking the right questions of his superiors or not being good at expressing himself...but there are plenty of people that would fall into that boat especially at 22 or 23. Don't think it should have ruined your experience for over a year and caused you to harbor such anger towards a volunteer coach who was essentially still a kid himself.

No I don't. I have no reason to believe GoBlackBears is being less than truthful. Why would I assume that? You don't like that assumption I guess. Why do you assume the account given by GoBlackBears is false? Do you have evidence to that affect? Being a volunteer does not grant a coach the right to tell a fan to sit elsewhere without any explanation. Even if directed to do so by someone else. I've been asked to move from my original seat a couple times by arena staff with an explanation. IMO it is the responsibility of arena staff in all circumstances. A coach has bigger fish to fry and other responsibilities. If a coach wants a fan removed for some reason they should have arena staff handle the entire situation IMO.

You're right I shouldn't have let it ruin the experience. I should've found out why I was asked to move.

What reason were you given for having to move?

Because when someone says "he harassed me" and then it just turned into "he told me" (hardly harassment) and admits he'd sat there forever and not been bothered about it before when I know from my friend in the department that Kevin worked as a student volunteer and video person for several years under previous staffs before spending 2 years as a volunteer for Maria Lewis (in other words he was working at every game for several years) and he never had a problem with this guy sitting there before, then something is missing from the story we are being told. As I said previously, that doesn't mean GBB is being purposely less than truthful, but one way or the other there are important details missing from this story.

On this we agree. I think you were well within your rights to ask for clarification from an event management staff member or even from the coaching staff after the game.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

Were they not the Surprise team last year ?.

Yes they were a surprise starting with 2 earley wins over Quinnipiac at the beginning of last year. Never mind wins against BU 2x's and BC and Northeastern. Its amazing to see what good coaching can do. They should be better this year, they have a large good incoming freshman class. Have only heard great things about Maine Women's Hockey Program,.
I do believe however the team to beat this year will be our Gophers Team they to have good freshmen players coming in.:D

Maine also has two returning senior goal tenders in Brittany Ott and Kylie Smith. As you say, they also have a very large freshmen class. I look for them to improve as the season progresses as the freshmen make the adjustment to division 1 hockey.

Umm . Gophers ?. Did I miss something ?. Since when did they join Hockey East, and/or how is that relevant to a Maine discussion ?.

More seriously.....Consider this...

1 - Maine has been outperforming compared to pundit's expectations for the last two years....Good on them and great to see, but....Be hard to outperform expectations three years in a row, simply based on law of averages.....

2 - UVM's year was a disaster last year. With a coaching change, and hopefully some better luck keeping the squad healthy, fully expect a bounce back year. History dictates that the first year after a coaching change often brings some immediate improvements, as it allows for a fresh start.

I think BU and BC are again the teams to beat in HE. BU with a healthy Poulin and BC with who landed a top recruit that I would expect to impact right away, are IMHO the teams to beat in HE.
