Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

Congratulations to Coach Maria Lewis for receiving coach of the year in Hockey East along with Flint of NU.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

Maria Lewis has decided to remain at Maine after interviewing for the Vermont position. She will be receiving a new contract soon and I suspect some additional resources for the program. Maine currently has the allotted NCAA 18 scholarships. Great decision. Pleased to see you stay Maria and continue the development of the program.:)

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

When a so called assistant coach harasses fans on where they are sitting during a game when you only average 200 fans a game I have a problem with that.

Really? I'm sure there was a reason he "harassed" you to move (doubtful it was more than just a request that you've somehow twisted into "harassment")...and it was probably at the direction of someone else anyway. If there were so many open seats then you shouldn't have had much trouble finding another place to sit. That's a pretty petty reason to come on here and make a statement like the one you made, especially towards someone who was volunteering their time to try to help a program you supposedly care about.

I was sitting in section BB where my season tickets are for Mens Hockey. There were people sitting in the front row of that section and I was in row 9. He told me I couldn't sit there and I asked him what difference it made. He said that he was the assistant coach and I had to move. The people in the front row weren't asked to move. I went to on average of 10 games a season. I didn't go to any last season since it wasn't worth getting into it again. I'll go back now that he's gone.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

I too would have a problem with a coach dictating where a fan can / should sit...especially in the absence of an explanation. Something beyond "I'm the assistant coach" which really is no reason at all. That behavior is likely to drive fans off. Not what any team needs.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2011-2012

Something doesn't sound quite right here...why would any coach have a problem with a fan sitting in Row 9?

I couldn't figure it out. I used to sit there every time I went and no one cared before. He's gone now so that's good.

Or you're not being completely forthcoming about what that interaction actually entailed or what brought it on. Regardless of the context, you don't know if he was directed to have that conversation by the head coach, arena staff, or someone else. If you really believe deep down that you were wronged, then you could have taken the high road and not taken a shot at someone on here.

And not to go back to games just because someone asked you to move seats? If you care about the girls program as you say you do, I would certainly hope that you would go back and continue to support the girls who did nothing wrong to you even if you had to do it from another seat. You wouldn't have been supporting Kevin Sommer, you'd have been supporting the women who were hard at work...especially with your FREE ticket.

I will go back now that he's gone. If someone tells me to move again it will be the last time though. I'm not going to be singled out for no reason.

I think a fan may have a legit right to be upset or feel mistreated. The fan is the customer, the onus is on team or arena staff to provide an explanation if asking a fan to move or sit elsewhere. The high road should be taken by the arena staff if there's a reason for asking a fan to move. Providing that reason is an exceptable expectation for the fan.

You are silly. You let a 22, 23(?) year old volunteer get you in a huff over asking (or harassing, as you call it) you to move to a different seat? There is clearly more to it than that that you either aren't aware of or perhaps aren't being forthcoming about.

Doesn't matter...either way it's comical that you wouldn't go back to a FREE game to support the players, who did nothing to you, all because of something like that. It's childish. You took your ball and went home and held a grudge for over a year just to take a shot at him on the internet when he left the program...and you still don't even know if he was the one behind asking you to move or if he was just the messenger who may or may not have done a good job communicating the reason behind his request... or maybe you just didn't want to hear it. I don't know Kevin personally but I know people in the athletic department at Maine and they say he is one of the quietest and most docile people to work there. Doesn't really jive with the story you're telling here but, we'll never really know what happened, especially since you were so destroyed by what happened and are obviously emotionally invested in this.

At least you got the last word over him here. Congrats on that. I'm glad you can go back to the games now that the big bad bully is out of the way.
