Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Boston University might go down in my book as the most consistently inconsistent team in the league. The Terriers ran off an impressive unbeaten streak to begin the season, hit the skids and looked like they might be chum for even the smaller of sharks and then walked into Orono last weekend and took three of four points from Maine. I remember a Jack Parker quote years ago that went something to the effect that the Terriers are always playing their best hockey come Beanpot time. Parker’s explanation for that was early February is generally when he stops screwing things up for the team and just lets them play.

When you lift something out of an article, you need to give credit to the author. Something like, "For those who haven't already seen Jim Connelly's Hockey East article on the front page..."

Beat them, or sweep them? Because from where I sit Maine went 2-0-1 against 'em this year. I don't care who you think is a slouch, if you've got a clue, you know getting 5 out of 6 points against anybody in this league is nothing to scoff at. Sweeping 6 out of 6 in any given year is a task.

I was more pointed tothe fact this teams strugles on the road another thing even the whitehead lovers can't dispute

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Went to my first regular season NCAA game last Saturday against BU. Had been to a couple of exhibition games before when UNB went down to play.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Great hockey to watch. Bears deserved a better fate.

Anyway the only thing not enjoyable was sitting on the benches for three periods (I was up in section OOO).

I thought I heard before that they were going to renovate sometime in the near future, replacing the benches with seats.

Probably an old topic but I'm new here. -Thanks

Way too late to be the first to quote our beloved Jackie, but I wanted to be,because it was a very astute comment by Parker. This team is good enough for Timmy to just roll out the pucks and be a cheerleader.

Maybe sit Banwell and Heggarty, too, and let the young D develop...Rotate Marty and Sully as much as possible, let the kids play the fundamental hockey they've been taught since they were midgets, and let the chips fall where they may.The have the raw talent to succeed using this approach,IMO.

Nice of Bertagna to suspend Diamond at the last minute.......so who's behind this one??? It's gotta be Jackie Parker!

I'm not a big fan of the conspiracy theories. I wouldn't say anyone is behind it, but I would say that Diamond is responsible for it. Playing tough is fine, but he should be toeing the line, not crossing it, IMHO. Still, a solid moral victory for Maine tonight, 6-3 without Diamond in Durham should be a valuable building block for the rest of the season.

whether responsible for it or not, waiting until thursday to suspend him is horse****.... no reason the league needed four days to make that decision.... maine practiced and game planned all week with him in the line-up and at the day before you drop the puck on a big weekend series you're notified of a suspension...

that said, diamond wouldn't have made a three goal difference tonight....

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Northeasterns record to date W8 L10 T6 slouch in my book. A team with maine's talent should beat them no questions asked.

The BC games I listened to on the radio combined for the weekend maine was out scored 8-1.

I also forgot to mention the dud they played in the opening round of the florida classic getting man handled by Miami of Ohio. I know it was how the team had to travel why they loss acording to our man of multiple ecuses Mr Tim Whitehead.

Maines record vs UNH, BC, BU, and Merrimack 1-5-2 this for a team that was ranked in the top 10 preseason

The numbers don't lie this season nor do they for the last 3 seasons under whitehead. I live in reality where do you live?

Updated record vs Hockey East Top 4 teams 1-6-2 way to go tim!

It’s like Groundhog Day,” said Maine coach Tim Whitehead. “We’ve had a lot of games like this. We play well enough to get points but we don’t get any. We didn’t quit and we won’t quit.”

Played well TIMMAY I don't think so. It's not like he cares anyway he's just collecting a paycheck

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The only slightly amusing part of the game last night was the Maine fan who sood at the top of the section behind the UNH goal with a very official looking "University of No Hardware" sign. It look like he stayed there while all the UNH fans were filing out. That took some guts, especially since Maine lost.

While I can not say I was surprised Maine lost, it is still disappointing. My seats for the game were next to the Maine bench. I think I heard Timmay once get on the ref about a slash which was not called. I was in the same seats about 2 months ago when Brown played UNH. I have no idea who the Brown coach was but, from where I was sitting, it was hard not hear him on every shift. I contrast the intesity of the Brown coach with Timmay who just looks like a deer in headlights all night long. He stands there in his own little happy place while the rest of us watch the program go further down hill.

I wish I could say I was more optomistic about the future. Once Nyquist and the seniors leave, there will be real holes to fill. Hopefully the goaltenders improve but once they do, will there be any offense left? It seemed to me as though this year was the best year for Maine to be really competitive. Now that the season is winding down, it appears they may have to travel for the first round of the Hockey East playoffs and the only way they get in the NCAA tournament is to win the HE tournament outright.

I hope I am wrong but Maine is headed for another year of watching the NCAA tournament from the outside. It is sad that so few people within the Umaine leadership seem to care that the hockey program has fallen so far while so many Mainers (and former Mainers like myself) do care.

I apologize for this overly long rant. I will not, however, apologize for my beliefs that the reason for Maine's continued slide into irrelavance comes directly from the lack of leadership by Timid Timmay.

The goaltending has been bad and it's not showing any signs of getting better. Having an .886 sv% as a team is just a horrible number and the only thing saving them from having the worst sv% in HE is that UML is so bad. The goaltending has gone downhill in a hurry since Alexander showed up as the goalie coach. Probably not all his fault, but i have seen very little improvement if any with the goaltenders he has worked with.

With that being said the defense is probably worse than the goaltending. I don't think outside of Dimmen when he is healthy that any of them would be a top 4 dman on most teams.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Don't know how the powers to be up at Orono can't see the writing on the wall....

First 4-5 years under Timmy with Walshe's players, recruits, coaches and quite frankly his legacy, the team is an NCAA's/FF regular, now that it's 100% Timmy's show, you cant even make the NCAA's once in a while, and this was supposed to be "The" year!! Don't need to be a mathematician to figure this one out.....

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I assume Sullivan is still not healthy. It's going to be either Ouellette or Sirman, in goal tonight. Put Ouellette back in? The team worked hard last night, defensive lapses and goal tending were two huge factors.
