Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

what's your over under on Camper-Miele?

5 points?

Haha, I tend to make streaky picks with teams I know and watch.

Back in the day, I won my parents $350 in a football pick-em pool going 13-1 on game picks that week....at the age of 8....:D

Don't worry...I got a toy store spree out of the deal :)

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

It seems to be happening over and over maybe it is addressed, but not fixed? 33% of the games this year they have coughed up a third period lead that has resulted in a loss or a tie that's not good. This is nothing new heck two years ago it happened at home against UNH up 4-2 in the third and give up 3 goals in a 4 minute span to lose 5-4. This has been going on for the last decade even though the players change and the assistant coaches have changed there is one constant through it all.

Not quite the last decade.... from 2001 to 2006 there was a streak when Maine was 104 - 0 - 6 when leading after 2 periods. Guess it can't all be Whitehead either then huh?

Where did I say when leading after 2 periods? You quoted me it clearly says coughing up third period leads.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The adjustments were benching Banwell and Anthoine. I believe he got the team's attention and except for the first period it payed off. Banwell made a fatal pass in the 3rd against UNH. Shemansky played very well tonight, also. He didn't get an assist but he was an integral part of the 4th goal when he made a great move with the puck bringing it into the zone. This Umass team was quick. It's going to be interesting playing them again in Amherst on olympic sized ice.
...If he..[TW]..benched Anthoine for that penalty that he took vs UNH then thats TOTAL B.S. That call was B.S. call and only should have been a 2 minute minor....imo.

That was all Grant!

That was all Grant!

see, you really do have hockey content and knowledge to add.

After grant stopped coming down from the catwalk and pointing out tendencies of the oppeonent ...

but, look at all those frozen fours

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The UNH loss was pretty flukey...Maybe that sort of thing happens once in a hundred games.Nothing to panic about. And I wouldn't put it on Oullette. He played very well,IMO.

Maine is all right, but I'll be happy to see Dimmen and O'Neill back.Cornell and Nemec have been pleasant surprises, but Banwell just doesn't do it for me.

This is perfect timing for Maine to have some time off. To take a step back and reflect.

This is a group that had their first experience of expectations. They haven't exceeded them, but there are plenty points of pride. They haven't underachieved, but there's much work to be done.

If there's one thing I learned about this group of guys from last year is: put a chip on their shoulder...give them something to prove...and watch out!

There were lofty expectations, and hey, they opened the season with an 8 goal performance, they swept UND, life is good, right? Well, as was pointed out, they're 0-3-1 against the teams that matter most in this conference (no offense everyone else) so the reality is ... they're a long way from proving anything major.

An emphasis has to be placed on the 3rd period play, and tonight was a good segway of confidence toward that lesson. If I were a coach, I would question our physical condition, and basically ask if the issue is: we're running out of gas? care? If I'm a player and I don't want to get gassed at practice, best believe I'll be finishing every check in my future 3rd periods.

This is a team that can be elite when they're hungry, and its going to be a nice long break to think about just how hungry they are. They'll get to face a 1st class program and really see what they're made of in their first game back. I'm excited.

I can remember years back when the players would say the game was the easy part as the week before in practice was tough as hell and playing the game was the reward for the hard and tough practice's.............

Didn't Anthoine get a game misconduct for that hit? So I think he was suspended for the game. (but I agree, that hit was DIRECTLY in front of where I sit, it was a charging or boarding penalty for sure, but not so malicious as to warrant a 5 minute game misconduct).

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The loss of the advantage of the Alfond and the inability to hold leads are horrifying to me. I felt like they'd gotten some of the home ice edge back in the Lowell series last year and the start of this year. Last night undoes all that, to me.

I'm so sick of watching pathetic efforts at the Alfond, when the place used to actually be an intimidating place for opponents and a blackbears win was expected. If they don't turn it around this year and go deep I'm giving up my season tickets. I've sold half of them the past two years, and I'm not too excited about going to the Alfond to see them choke against their "rival".

A game misconduct doesn't give you the next game, only a game disqualification does, you rarely see that for a hit from behind major unless there's clear intent to injure, and there was definitely none on that hit. It was a tough call, I thought the player turned away from the hit causing it to be 'from behind'.. I think any HFB into the boards is a major now, though they prob should have called it boarding 2 min, I agree.

What is their record vs BU, BC, and UNH over the last 5 years? Pretty pathetic I'm sure.

Yea. Likewise.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

......... Banwell just doesn't do it for me.

Banwell is a good player with a very quick release. There are those times when he makes very poor decisions with the puck. For instance, in the 3rd period against UNH when he passed the puck to the middle of the ice when Maine couldn't clear the zone. Upper classmen shouldn't make those types of mistakes. I like Banwell and sitting out a game should benefit him as the season goes along.

I'm sorry... what?!?

17 career goals? In 1.5 seasons?

Usually like your posts but... wow.
Diamond is a real player, not sure he's the best goal scorer but the guy can make room for himself in tight quarters, takes no BS from anyone and if he wasn't hurt right now would have more points. His skating is way off and has been for a few weeks.
