Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Last... don't worry about losing another third period lead guys, look at all those frozen 4's.. surely they mean something.

Except when they were going to Frozen Fours there was a streak of 200 something games in a row not giving up a lead going into the third period. Hockey programs are fliud, believe it or not. Things can change and for Maine they have. Dramatically.

The loss of the advantage of the Alfond and the inability to hold leads are horrifying to me. I felt like they'd gotten some of the home ice edge back in the Lowell series last year and the start of this year. Last night undoes all that, to me. Maybe I'm over reacting to one game but I felt like the program had turned a corner and now it feels like they've turned right back the wrong way.

I'd like to think they have turned the corner also and maybe they have, tomorrow should tell us something. I have to think that Dimmen and O'Neill change that game. The experience the freshman are getting right now will pay back in spades later.

Sounds like Timmy was pizzed at the end of the game. Anyone see his quote in today's press herald? Glad to see some emotion there, even if it did involve throwing the team under the bus.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I thought the D played pretty well last night, at least for the first fifty minutes. The whole team did. And then they just gakked it over the last ten. Figured they had the game won? Timid Tim telling them to conserve their energy? Don't know. But UHN took it to them those last ten, and Maine didn't respond and pick their game up too. Two points they should have had, but choked them away. Still haven't learned how to win the big games against their league's top tier teams.

For a guy who was pizzed off he doesn't show any emotion from the bench.

The addition of O'Neil and Dimmen will make a HUGE difference to this team. These are veteran defensemen and their stability at the blue line cant be overstated. Though I think the young defensemen did an admirable job shutting down UHN's forwards last night, its the poise of the veterans thats missed. Not to mention their ability to quarterback the PP, get pucks to the net, and make the right plays in the defensive zone. Between the young d and the goalies, these type of games are tremendous learning experiences. Letz hope it sinks in....good and hard. And I think it will. Still very impressed with this groups talent and work ethic. Good things, maybe even great things, yet to come.

Maine gets goal #4, game over. Instead of 4-1, its 3-2 and anybodys game at that point. Gave UHN hope and they capitalized. Fugly ! :D Gotta keep the pedal to the metal and never let up....when you got somebody down, dig their grave and bury 'em.

Though its a reg season game and painful to cough up the points, its gotta be a good lesson they wont soon forget.
In 5 of the 15 games Maine has played they have blown a third period lead that ended up with them tying or losing the game. If it is happening 33% of the time I would say they forget it very easily and don't seem to be learning any lesson.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I think it the 3rd and Maine was pressing, someone shot and the red light went on for a split second, did a ref wave that off, play never stopped and they never reviewed it. Anyone know whats up with that? don't they usually talk to the goal judge? I thought they were going to review it at next stoppage but nothing

The goal judge jumped the gun I can't remember who it was that hit the post, but he had a lay up and squarely hit the post.

House? Did you see them wave it off?
Nope I was watching the play never looked to see if it was waved off because it clearly didnt go in the goal judge must have been smoked up. I think it might have been House now that you mention it.

I'd like to think Dimmen and O'Neill make the difference....but what if they turn it over and cause odd man rushes? I've seen that enough. I'm just really feeling like a negative nelly today I guess.

The last 3 years will do that to a person.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I don't think Maine should hit the Panic Button until O'Neill and Dimmen return, then and only then if the Team continues in giving up leads and making careless turnovers in their own end in the last 5 minutes...then they are in trouble. I think the return of BOTH will give Maine the boost they need..[imo].

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Yeah he dips his shoulder and he is going to the net no matter what, but he works like dog and he had 3 chances last night because of his speed. He isn't setting the table but he is making some chances so.

Mangene knows how to set the table. He's had some good ones.

In him...I see a determined kid just DYING to get the goal monkey off his back. His Mike-Hamilton-Esque skate ins were while Maine had a lead and he was trying to use his speed to get a back breaker or at least draw a call.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

UMass game should be interesting the place will probably be empty as Pats play at same time. I can see Maine rolling over, playing with their heads down or I can see them coming out like gang busters. After last night I see this team going nowhere, no way they should lose that game and I don't see it as a fluke

I genuinely believe they're going to come out firing. I almost called the UNH game to a T (see the other thread), and one of the only other times I called a score this year, I was on for the MSU game... so here's the call for this one:

Sully has a composed start.
The offense plays ****ed off.

5-1 Maine

I wanted to go 6-1...but I know how much we love the post :)

Eggsactly. I think the point is driven home especially to these two as they watched that abortion unfold before them and there was nothing they could do to contribute.

As we know, offense is not a problem....and defense can be taught. Letz see if they received a good lesson from all this.

.....also a faceoff win would have been nice

I don't remember Dee not winning a faceoff until the end of the game, then UNH won it easily, right to the point, Kessel probably
