Not sure how I feel about Smith being taken out, he had been playing really well in my opinion.
They got a thrashing tonight...no more to say. UMass is a way better team...player/coach wise.
Real question is howd that happen in 3 years when our guys had 6 and people are still saying “be patient” “it was so bad it takes time to build”
Its called having a coach that knows how to get players to play a system that works..
Just shows when the right people are in charge things get done and progress...and without lip service on the air waves and in print...I keep saying it: Talk is CHEAP and whiskey COST money. Doing it instead of dreaming it is what works...and NOT @ Maine now or in the present future for the next 2 years. SAD if .500 is good and along the way be patient when only winning 10-12 games for 3-4 years....sounds like the Gendron ERA.Real question is howd that happen in 3 years when our guys had 6 and people are still saying “be patient” “it was so bad it takes time to build”
But listening to Gendron, it will happen.....[when..???].I suspect that Red would get to the tournament if he was coaching UMass, and I don't necessarily think that Carvel would win with Maine's roster.
I don't think it's about the X's and O's; I think it's about the talent. Red just can't seem to bring in enough for Maine to contend, and -after 6 years of futility- there's no reason to think that he ever will.
Incoming recruits are the toughest part of this analysis. Not only are recruits unknown commodities since they may never show up on campus, some may come in different years than anticipated and some may have trouble adjusting not only to the quicker game at Div I but also to life in general at a university. There is also the fact I do not see any of these kids perform in person, relying on statistics and second-hand accounts. In this case I have assembled opinions from people far more knowledgeable than I when it comes to recruits, including a scout, a former player, a current college coach and people in the media. The consensus is Maine's recruits are good, but do not measure up to recruits at rival schools like BC, BU or PC. Most disappointing, the incoming classes at UMass are rated higher than Maine's. The Black Bears are still above UNH, Vermont and Merrimack and should be about even with UConn.
