Now here's a revelation:

"One of the problems has been an inability to get the puck through to the opponents' net."

Great observation. Maine at least needs 1 line with a "BIG" grinder, a "Big" center that can win faceoffs and "playmaker", and finally a "Sniper. This formula should help the power play. Does TW like size up front? Does not seem to recruit that way...............

Currently everyone is running all over the ice and not getting in position to score. All Maine seems to do is dump and chase and hope for the best...........and then back up in the neutral zone........Nice same old, same old game plan. Boring !

This team requires snipers up front as they currently seem to lack confidence shooting the puck. Pretty sad state of affairs when your D are contributing more to your offence from the backline

From the last day of the '11-'12 season, my big concerns were scoring...Sr and Jr classes, are not contributing upfront in the least. I always believed that Martin was the better keeper, but still seems to have focus issues....D was going to be on par or better than last year, defensively, but lost O'Neil as a point producer....Joey is a gnat...who can score goals at times, but relies on linemates getting attention too....Beattie, Shemansky, Liedermark, Pryor, the unlamented Sirman are part of a disappointing class..., Jr class not much hope there either...... Fish rot from the head......... Can Tim W....now, and save dignity if not the program....

Seven pages into this thread I can see that not a lot has changed...except maybe some of the Tim apologists are now not so apologetic...hmm...

:Yawn...Stretch: What'd I miss...?

Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

So what you are saying...we are just a few years from Politicians joining the dinosaurs? (pleasepleasepleaseprettyplease??)

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Lots of family coming in to see the games this weekend. Hopefully it gives the players some motivation. By the way, happy anniversary to the 1982-83 Maine team. On this date in 83 they defeated Dartmouth for their only D-I win of the season.

That would have been Semler's last year. The next two years, Maine went 23-57-2. Maine started turning it around in 1986 when the talent level improved and in 1988 Standbrook arrived.

I don't even know if that's true they team has a gazillion shots on net (685 to be exact, average of 32 and change a game) they make every goalie they play look like Jimmy.

And yours truly was broadcasting most of those games for WMEB at the time. Not a single winning bus trip home all year! We even lost to Colby at Colby! Semler did coach the following year and then was replaced by Shawn for the first year of Hockey East in '84-'85. Were one to look at the scores of the games from the '82-'83 season you might understand why I was more patient, but my patience is gone, as am I as this represents only my 3rd post this season.

What year is he talking about here?

But that's TIMMAY's "system". Everything goes back to the points for the defensemen to shoot. Everyone knows it. You wonder why so many shots get blocked?

Cornell spoke about this exact issue, in the BDN.... He identified that they needed to move and create new angles and move their feet instead of being static...Tim Ghandi would rather have them use a Tee and a driver......and they wonder why they are getting shots blocked...get the puck low, force them to collapse and then move it up to point and then hopefully Billy Norman won''t try to look like he is having a Ginsu knife demonstration and shoot....

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

But why the points all the time? Why not set up on the half circles, or cycle the puck down low, have the forwards moving around and creating chances from the dots down low, maybe defensemen pinching down.

But it's all dump the puck into the corners, dig it out, and then back to the points for the shot. There's no creativity, there's no movement, there's no playmaking, Just let it fly and pray.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Ha ha....2013. So do you still think there are 4-5 Black Bear home games this season that they can win?

I didn't say "home games", dumbass. And yes, there are 4-5 games that Maine can still win on this season. They've got one each with PC, Lowell and Vermont, and a pair each with Northeastern and UMass. That's seven games where they have a shot at winning, not saying they will. But yeah, they might be able to win five of those.

The games against BC, UNH, BU and Merrimack I'm writing off.

Good chance that they won't win in double figures(10 wins/now at 5 with 15 reg.season gms left)and a very good chance there WON'T be even one 10 goal scorer in a 36 game slate.
