What about hugs and hot cocoa? Will they get to swim in the pool at the hotel before they have to get on the bus to come home? Can they stop at Pat's in Falmouth for the team dinner afterwards? C'mon coach...they tried REALLY HARD...

Yes, and counseling sessions for all the teams that dont win.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Right. It was Standbrook who brought in Hobey Hat Trick finalists like Nyquist and Abbott.

are you certain that Standbrook did not bring in Nyquist?
I remember him talking, at his retirement dinner, about a Swede that he convinced to come to Maine, in a couple years.
The only Swede that showed up in a couple years was Nyquist.

If we're talking about "goals" how about we just get to the point where all my hockey friends stop asking me "What the hell's wrong with Maine?"

The players aren't the typical high end guys that BC/BU bring in ,,,but they are all decnt players... Tim has become paralyzed by the video review process, by practices that are not high tempo and in fact are mind numbingly slow Do a drill discuss, do a drill discuss....the team is not in shape and is not battle ready...accountability is not the case.....and that isn't only the responsibility of the players and Captains ( is itjust me or is joey D a poor role model as a Captain???) Ask the players which practice actually helps Tim Ghandi's or Corks.....they will tell you, and actual laugh that Tim is not as stressful as their time in midget or junior.....2 hour video sessions....yes really....Fire Tim and save the program...now

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Beginning next year Maine will be in the Hockey East tournament regardless of their record and will have a chance to win a conference title. Maine could have home ice by finishing no lower than 8th in 11 team conference. Not really a fan of this change, but I believe every other conference allows all teams to qualify for league title.
Thats what stinks these days, teams like the way Maine is playing this year do not deserve to be in Post Season play...letting all the teams in just makes the regular Season not worth the play...thats the way it will be next year but it should have stayed at the Top 8 make the playoffs and go from there.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

I think that most fans of Maine Hockey believe that they should be in the run every year...and WHY not..? Winning Hockey is what everyone expects, lofty goals...and again why not..? Can't have a Championship run every year but coming to play hard and playing to high expectations...plain and simple.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

I expect Maine to be in the NCAA's every year. Win a HE regular season title every three or four years, or a tourney title. Make it to the final four every 2-3 years, with a legitimate shot at winning it all when they get there. After that, a lot of it comes down to luck.

Unsurprisingly, TIMMAY fails on even acheiving the first.
Christ, even Jerry York isn't meeting your first expectation.

Shawn coached at Maine for 17 years. So that's 34 chances to win a Hockey East regular season or Tournament. Maine won 4 of each. That's 8/34=24% or every 4.25 years. Maine went to the Frozen Four 7 of Shawn's 17 seasons (41%) or every 2.4 years. So you actually want someone even better than Shawn. Good luck with that.

Tell it to NBC. The possibility of them not being able to televise Notre Dame playing a tournament game is inconceivable.
you keep using that word...

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Bite me. So I didn't sit down for 20 minutes and run numbers like you apparently did. Awesome. You know what I mean, even if the numbers don't add up. But 3-4 years vs. 4.25. 2-3 vs 2.5. Pretty similar for just throwing some numbers out there

One NCAA appearance every five years ain't cutting it, and you know it. Now, why don't you make yourself useful and figure TIMMAY's winning percentage the last six years, and then compare that to Yorkm, Parker and Umile's? And then tell us about all those Frozen Fours he's been to.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

No thanks. And you really think it took me all of 20 minutes to do that?

Yes, I do know what you mean. Just this morning someone on this thread asserted that people didn't have their expectations set as high as to think we're going to have a coach with the same level of success Shawn and Grant enjoyed. I hope he sees now that most people do have those expectations. It remains my opinion that those are unrealistic.

I would like to make a long distance dedication to Tim:

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Off topic a bit, but maybe that's a good thing!

Saw Maine men's hoops at Albany the other day, and that team is fairly loaded. Frazier (sp?) was especially impressive; he might even get a cup of coffee in the D league, or better.

Thing is, while they have a relative wealth of talent, they struggled mightily to score in any situation aside from the break. They seemed to have no half-court sets at all, and jacked-up a ton of clankers from behind the arc.

I hope they figure it out, because they definitely have the talent to contend in AE. (I won't even mention the women, who lost by 32.)

No, it remains your opinion that most people have unrealistic expectations for the new incoming coach. It remains my opinion you are wrong on this.

They are a solid team. I've seen them play too and you are right about their outside shot. There primary weakness is they have no one to shoot the three. I think they will finish somewhere between 3- 5 in league play.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

As a casual participant on this thread, I thought I might offer some observations. I think we all have one thing in common - a love for Maine hockey and a desire to see it returned to a level at least closer to what it once was. I think its useful to try to pinpoint what all the problems are both on the ice and behind the bench. Whats much less useful is the way some of you seem equally intent on tearing each other down. It's fine to have healthy debate about the coach and players etc., but do it respectfully without nit-picking and you'll gain more credibility and make this forum all for the better.
