Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Last night was the first Maine game that I simply didn't bother even listening to for as long as I can remember. I was cooking dinner and watching Peyton Manning pout - far more entertaining. Thank god I missed the debacle. What a pathetic sad mess, but necessary for the desired end result - the end of Timmay time. Thank god we have the New England Patriots !

Yep, same here. Dont even bother to listen to Maine play on the radio anymore. Sad how far this program has fallen.

Remember.........not showing up to games Is the ONLY way that thee average fan can help ensure that Whitehead does not return. You keep handing these bums your $$$, time, and at least what they perceive, interest..........and this will go on for even longer.........possibly MUCH longer. It may be tough for some of you to swallow your season tix, but it HAS to be that way if there is to be any hope, and therefore, enjoyment of this program in the future.

On a side note, I wonder what Ted Alfond is thinking? It's very hard for rich people to admit that they are/were wrong......and they certaainly can fake it for quite a while.......but at some point, there's just no denying that a turd is a turd.

I wonder how much fun it is to be the A.D. @ Maine these days..??? Bet there's days he would wish he didn't get up...but then he spends alot of time in Portland...his contract comes to a end this summer,is there hope...imo,NO...if he stays with a renewed deal does he end the misery..??? I would think that "IF" there would be a change(TW buyout)that it would be in the works,so they could start right after the season to start a Nation wide Coaching search...get a list together and get something done sooner then later, but with a lame duck(Hobby)A.D. things could be MORE of a MESS as they go into the summer months...if we thought this season was something for the ages...BET that with no changes that the 2013-14 season could be as sour if not worst.

If Abbott stays I think he tries to buy out TW's contract. Doesn't mean he will get his way, but he will try. Will he come back? No one has any insight as he is playing it close to the vest. Sure he spends much of his time in Portland and seems to treat the job as a hobby, but how many hobbies pay you six figures? He may keep the job just to keep cashing a paycheck. He may not even know yet. The answer might come if he makes his case to the boosters and they still want to keep TW. In that case, he may want to let someone else have the headache.

If he decides to leave, it seems unlikely he's going to want his last act of being AD to fire the hockey coach and leave his successor with either A) a new coach he didn't pick or B) a search that will last into the summer.

At some point there will be a new coach. What a job that's going to be. If he wins he'll be hailed as a hero, if not he gets to skate because everyone will blame TW. Whoever it is will have the world's longest honeymoon period.

even I am amazed at your flip flopping.... which one is it? "there is no way Tim goes anywhere, because you know because you spoke with your friends" or "Abbott tries to buy out the contract" (which you recently said only a fool would consider a possibility

last... you mention that boosters MIGHT want to keep Tim around... the boosters are not sticking around because of Tim... there were not enough people to have a lobsterfest this year, and there is now only EXACTLY ONE saint in Penobscot county willing to be president of the FOMH... a mother of a black bear who probably does not want to see the program just plain whither and die.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

anyone catch this gem... good god... this guy is the chair of the athletic advisory board http://www.kjonline.com/sports/defending-coach-whitehead_2013-01-10.html

i love how he points to the winning percentage on the whole... how about you do some REAL statistical analysis and see just how things have gone over the 11 years.... downhill in all regards, save for the blip that was last year and the moderate uptick the year before.... i wish i still had the spreadsheets i posted on this site in 2007 or so.... i went through and trended a host of statistics... feel like i emailed them to wally or rufus way back when... unfortunately no time to go back and recreate it... but hey, we won 23 games last year, pay no attention to the two 13 win seasons or this one which will almost certainly fail to reach 10 wins....

Sent them my comment, rebutting his arguments one by one. 1. Look at record since Grant left, and there have been many calls for both Parker and Umile to step down over this time. 2. 5 of those lower programs have made coaching changes recently, and several are now trending upward while Maine continues to freefall. 3. If you just want good students, then drop down to DIII and call it a day.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

He's kinda like Joey in that he can't seem to create is own shot, and nobody else is exactly peppering the goalie to make for juicy rebounds for him this year.

But he can stickhandle in a phone booth!!!;)

it was not that long ago that Timmy was asked to come help with the Friends of Maine Hockey and he asked why he should... he could get more money from a donor at a single lunch than the boosters could in a whole year. (not realizing, of course, that the boosters are the grass roots organization of fans that the players like to have around.... and the lifeblood of the program).

good job timmy alienating the friends of maine hockey since day 1.... now there are only a few left

not only that, he uses a game against mercyhurst as an example of how well Maine CAN play (he omits the rest of the sentence, how well Maine can play against a team ranked lower than 40th in the nation.)

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Grant had a way of getting kids to play up to game speed.
Anthoine CAN stickhandle, I have seen it... but I have only seen it in a game once. I have a feeling that he is too tense to try in games and that he does not practice Grant's overspeed training.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

There is no creativity in the way TW coaches or no blue print for a Maine team signature..............that is consistent

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Green Bay's Charles Woodson has some coaching advice for TIMMAY.

"We didn't make any adjustments," said Woodson, who later added: "I just think when the game is going the way it is, you've got to try something different. It's hard to just continue to do the same thing over and over again, and continue to get burned. ... We need to figure out: Could we have done something differently as far as our game plan was concerned?"

Can you give some color please on Ted Alfond's involvement with and support of Whitehead; and the program in general. Specifics would help.

On 1/6/13, Priceless wrote: "You might be better off contacting Ted Alfond and asking about his support of Whitehead if everything I've heard is true. As long as that family is backing TW there isn't going to be a change behind the bench."

The one assumption I can make is that Alfond is still a huge benefactor of Maine Hockey, probably the largest. Beyond that, it is improbable and illogical that a guy who donates huge money to the program supports and backs Whitehead, his system or lack thereof, and the record he's currently produced. If I donated sums of $$$ with two commas in it, I would be bulls**t. What am I missing here?

I don't have specifics. I earlier speculated that it might be as simple as Alfond just likes the guy, but I have no idea. I'm heading up to campus this weekend and meeting with some people so maybe I'll learn a little more about the connection.

TW does not care about the people who donate $mall amouts to the FOMH/BBC/Donation Seats...I have heard the same that he cares only about the so called Deep pocket Donor or Donors...he cares less about the FOMH and the Show he does on Mondays are a real bother to him also...he can say and put on a game day face but he's not into what it takes to make Maine Hockey: Maine Hockey. Sadly the good people, the dedicated hard working people that were the foundation of Maine Hockey have had it,he has not just lost the fans but the back bone of the Program: The Diehards who brought Passion to the Program and the Players/Coaches could see what aspecial group and place Maine Hockey"WAS."
