Get rid of Whitehead or drop the program. This is a slap in the face to Shawn.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Earlier in the week, I looked over the remaining schedule, and figured there were 5-6 games that Maine could win the rest of the year. One of those was the NU game. So now, it's only 4-5 possible wins for the season.

Heckuva job, TIMMAY.

After witnessing this weekends performance, look again at the remaining schedule and tell me where they can win 4-5 more games.

.

Is no one OUTRAGED at this? Are Maine Hockey fans not ready to riot? I feel like Howard Beal. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more."
This has been going on for so long now, nobody gives a ____ anymore.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

is this a worse ever record for a single season for the hockey team. What number does Timbo have to hit?

so this weekend, Maine is the number 51 team in the nation.... they tied the number 47 team, which is about right, but they got creamed by the number 33 team in the nation...

and I think that is about right too... the bottom 7 teams in the NCAA are generally doormats for good teams and mediocre teams.

how many of us thought we would see Maine swept by merrimack (2 seasons ago) and shut out 6-0 like tonight?

is Shawn's son still working for the hockey program as videographer? I wonder if he can stand seeing what is happening to that thing that his father built.

oh, and in case anyone is wondering... these two games this weekend had to have had the worst Maine fan turnout EVER! THE ONLY away game I have ever seen with fewer Maine fans was the blizzard game against Lowell, in Lowell when only about 50 people TOTAL showed up

anyone catch this gem... good god... this guy is the chair of the athletic advisory board http://www.kjonline.com/sports/defending-coach-whitehead_2013-01-10.html

i love how he points to the winning percentage on the whole... how about you do some REAL statistical analysis and see just how things have gone over the 11 years.... downhill in all regards, save for the blip that was last year and the moderate uptick the year before.... i wish i still had the spreadsheets i posted on this site in 2007 or so.... i went through and trended a host of statistics... feel like i emailed them to wally or rufus way back when... unfortunately no time to go back and recreate it... but hey, we won 23 games last year, pay no attention to the two 13 win seasons or this one which will almost certainly fail to reach 10 wins....

If you did email them and you haven't deleted attachments, it'll still be in your old sent folder. If you used Yahoo Mail it will be in the Attachments section. You also might try Googling...you might find your post.

Edit: I didn't read your link after the first sentence.
Last Friday, before a sizeable crowd at the Cumberland County Civic Center, the University of Maine hockey team demonstrated how well it can play as it defeated Mercyhurst University in an exciting game.
Seriously?

The 1982-83 Maine team was 3-24 and 1-20 in the ECAC. That record includes wins over Colby and Bowdoin. The only ECAC game the team won was at home, January 15, against Dartmouth. That team also lost at home to Colby.

5-24 in 1982-83. Two years before Shawn took over. Although one could argue finishing 10th in a 10 team league, if that happens, trumps the win total. Eek.

I don't count the exhibition wins vs Dalhousie :p

Edit: also, I think finishing 17th in a 17-team league trumps finishing 10th in a 10-team league.

Whatever the Maine media guide says it is, it is. Which is 5-24-0.

The University of Maine finishing dead last in Hockey East in 2013 is a much much different animal than struggling in its 4th Division 1 season.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Anthoine hasn't lived up to last year, that's for sure.

He's kinda like Joey in that he can't seem to create is own shot, and nobody else is exactly peppering the goalie to make for juicy rebounds for him this year.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Doesn't the term "rebuilding" presume that they were good once?

If there is a new regime in place next year, it will have to recruit and purge all at once, which was the one good coaching-move Tim ever had, back in the mid-2000's.

More than likely Maine hockey is beyond redemption for a long while, though. Unless UM can (improbably) lure a huge-name coach to Orono ASAP, who will want to come just to help dig the Bears out of the basement..? Even Semler could offer a more attractive package, way back when.

Fantastic job Timmay !! We are sooooooo happy with what you have done to this once proud program !! Keep up the good work !!

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

166 shots attempted
73 on net
57 blocked
36 wide
1 goal

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Last night was the first Maine game that I simply didn't bother even listening to for as long as I can remember. I was cooking dinner and watching Peyton Manning pout - far more entertaining. Thank god I missed the debacle. What a pathetic sad mess, but necessary for the desired end result - the end of Timmay time. Thank god we have the New England Patriots !
