Well, if the program is to hit rock-bottom, it doesn't have but a couple of inches to fall... The UAH weekend will be Maine's only true rivalry left them.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Well at LEAST the USA won the WJC,the NHL will start up soon,Dubuque continues to win and everyone still wants Maine Hockey BACK on track, sadly the last is a after-thought today/tommorrow and for the 4 seeable future...no one here wants what is happening @ UMaine Hockey but this has gone on too long....this season is one of the worst and has NO reason to see the light at the end of the tunnel come this spring leading into next season either....maybe it's just time to shut it down and forget that Hockey has any meaning to die-hards anymore...never thought I would say that...but will be glad when this Soap Opera like season is OVER. Just: IMO.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

How would anyone know that the next AD hates hockey or the program when their is no candidate? I'm guessing that the current president or chancellor? hates the hockey program, probably hates college athletics in general. I think you are right you'd be better off saying nothing when you hear these rumors

If the hockey program was well run, winning, and making money everyone would be happy. Why shoot the goose laying the golden egg. Running a good program requires positive energy and dedication. Today I see burnt out bureaucrats going for a ride and milking the system. The program is in complete disarray with no real leadership or commitment..........A real shame as Maine has the "brand" with paying fans to succeed.
Abbott could use this "Maine Black Bear Brand" as political leverage to get re-elected.................(if teams are winning)

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Exactly!

I am sorry I said anything about it. If I divulged details I would be be betraying a confidence. I can say it has to do with the next AD (assuming Abbott doesn't come back) and his dislike of the hockey program. It goes way beyond whoever is in the coach's office. Best-case scenario is that Abbott stays right where he is for the next few years, despite his treating the AD job as a hobby.

Hates hockey?? He or she must hate the athletic program then, because hockey is bankrolling Maine sports programs. Back out the dwindling revenue from the hockey program, and you have a big budget hole to fix.

Hockey WAS bankrolling Maine sports programs. No longer. As noted before, this season will be break even at best for UMaine Hockey.

Was it specifically Diamond's decision to not leave at the end of last year? If so, I'll bet he's regretting it now. What will his pro future look like at the end of this dreadful year for him and the team. Perhaps he was always just to small to be a good prospect anyway.

Polaroid was a successful brand too, once upon a time.

Beyond the ECHL or Europe, Diamond never had a pro future.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

Priceless; You might be better off contacting Ted Alfond and asking about his support of Whitehead if everything I've heard is true. As long as that family is backing TW there isn't going to be a change behind the bench.[/QUOTE said:
Can you share what you've heard please. This is a big piece of the puzzle if your last sentence is indeed fact.

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

So, are you saying the next AD has already been chosen(if not chosen, then at least the fix is in for who it's gonna be) and that person hates hockey?

Like was said, guess he hates bringing money in for the athletic department. Let's just kill the goose that lays the golden egg. Oh, wait, TIMMAY's already done that.

You really think there is no candidate in case Abbott decides to do something else? You don't think there is someone who has been in the department for decades who would love to see the football team returned to the top of the pedestal like it had before hockey came along? OK then, guess everything's fine. Back to the Fire Whitehead vitriol.

If you're suggesting Cosgrove being the next AD, I think it would be good for all of Maine's teams. He's been around awhile and knows how important the hockey team's success is to the entire department. I think he would have a lot more backbone dealing with the school's administration too.

I was born and raised in Orono, football on top of the pedestal?, when was that again? Maybe when Westerman? was around in the 60s. Cozzy would be AD and Coach?. For a guy who hates hockey he sure comes to a lot of games

So you're saying the fix is in for Cosgrove to be the next AD, despite there being a national search that has to be held for the position?

Re: Maine 2012 - Take 2. If This Ain't the Bottom...

It was supposed to be in the bag for Cozzy to be AD and Bobby Wilder elevated to football HC after Nero. We saw how that worked out. Although given everything that's happened at Maine and what Wilder's done at ODU, we wish they had a do-over.

So you believe this candidate would sooner gut the hockey program, lowering it beneath football, so that football is number one instead of pouring resources into football to raise it into the number one position over hockey??

Everything's under control. Situation normal. Everything's perfectly all right now.
