Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

But as priceless pointed out, Walshy took those same teams, during that same period of turmoil, and had a grand total of six losses, while 1 short of 30 wins. Cronin's not a step up over Whitehead, in my opinion., He's the same, except he'd yell and scream, which a lot of you would like.

More scrutiny needed, but those NU fans seem to be really lamenting his leaving NU. I dont know him that much, but seems to me his teams always worked hard and from what I can gather he was building NU from the ground up with good, solid recruits. I'd be a lot happier with a staff that got its money worth out of the talent, instead of listening to excuses about injuries, players leaving early, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

a few games +/- .500 each season might be welcome for NU fans, given how bad their team had been before Cronin got there. That's what Maine fans have with Whitehead, but Maine fans expect a lot more than that.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Last I knew Cronin thought he got the shaft in Orono and would likely take a Dump at center ice before he would take a job here

I thought he had issues when he left Maine also. Combine this with his NCAA violations at NU, I find it very unlikely he would ever be a strong candidate to coach the Black Bears.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

So the guy is not a step up from the current coach, hates the school and doesn't get along with the boosters. Sounds like a natural fit to me! Where's the contract?

you just described the current overpaid egomaniac to a T

do you know anything about the friends of maine hockey and how hard it is to find saints to be their president and deal with him? Do you REMEMBER when there used to be lobster fests with lots of willing donors, just dieing to meet the incoming freshmen?

I do... i remember when

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

I might be in the market for a bridge :p

ct?

i want one of those bridges too... my question is: will they buy him out before the banquet so that he gets to feel what Jeff Marshall felt when he was asked not to come back (the day before the banquet.... only to have the great manager beg Jeff to return once there were too many defections over the summer).

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Third in the last five.

See, you can use stats to show anything you want. TIMMAY's stats show a program in decline, and he helpless to do anything about it. Well, he could help by quitting, but he ain't gonna help by coaching.

Third in last six, and first in four years. Let's be accurate. The win total went 13-13-19-17-23-10. Notice that I am not extolling TW's virtues, just pointing out that Greg Cronin isn't a step up from the current coach. I am still of the belief that Tim's position is tied to Steve Abbott's. If SA stays, I think TW goes. If SA goes TW stays.

It's strange that it's my theory that people needed to temper their expectations. I asked on a previous version of this thread what reasonable expectations were for the Maine program and the Maine coach. What I got back was a list of accomplishments even Jerry York couldn't meet. That said, please aim a little higher than Greg Cronin.

I think at this point Timmy has run his race. Attendance is way down and the team really hasn't done a lot the last five years. I don't think Cronin is necessarily a lot better coach but do think he would be a much better fit. It's time to move on and try something else. The athletic department needs to do whatever it takes to fill the building again too.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Why this fascination with Greg Cronin? Because somebody we don't know allegedly "heard" that it was a done deal that he is taking over the team before the season is even over? Newsflash, guys: it's a stupid, unfounded, rumor that is ridiculous on its face. Before you start believing it, examine it to determine whether it even makes a shred of sense whatsoever. If I had an ironclad declaration put in the Wisconsin thread that JIMMAY! is a done deal March 11 or someone stating that they've seen a signed contract to bring Jrrwy to Orono on April 15 would you believe it?

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

OK, six. I'm still stuck in 2012.

So, 50% of the time since Grant's left, TIMMAY has been under .500. Two other seasons barely above that mark, and then one good season with a heavily senior-laden team and two Hobey Baker candidates. And still one and done in the NCAA's, the only appearance there in six seasons. Do we have to wait before Lomberg and Shore are seniors before the next one?

That's some damm good coaching, right there. Won ten this season? Hell, I could've stood behind that bench, let Corkum do everything, and won ten games.

Unc....you punk. I dont see any fascination with Cro. I said earlier that I thought he would be on my short list of candidates right now if there was a national search opened up today. Just for chits and giggles, other than Leaman and Bazin and Jimmay, give me 3 other candidates who would be on your short list ahead of crazy Greg. Not that Leaman and Bazin would necessarily be interested, but if you were the God of Hockey, who would you want to see on that list?

BTW, I continue to kick your azz in the contest....aint that true ?? :D

I have wonder what horrific acts Cronin did to Jonny Priceless... I know "what shawn did" and why jonny does not like Shawn

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

so what was it, five out of the 6 years Grant was around, Timmy gets nominated for Penrose, and after Grant leaves... no nomination, and half the time under .500

gosh, I suppose I can see why SHawn and Jimmy brought him in. and why badger bob brought him in before that... it was Badger Bob, wasn't it?

Maine's average attendance really isn't that bad......still #18 in the country. My biggest fear is that Coach Whitehead won't be given the chance to orchestrate a turnaround.......one that I believe is already underway.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

David Quinn
Scott Pellerin
Eric Weinrich
Chris Imes

Just off the top of my head. Not that any of them are likely to take the position. Otherwise, I'd have the search committee looking at established young assistants at the top D-1 programs, and see who's got the fire to build a winner themselves.

Probably could have had Quinn easy before he went into the pro ranks, now I doubt if he'd want to step back from that. same with Pellerin. It's only a matter of time before some losing college or minor league pro team comes looking at Montgomery. Plus, you've already got Corkum, who's already shown he can bring home gold at the international level.

What's TIMMAY shown?

I think you may be right about the improvement now under way and I would be surprised if he were not the coach this coming season. My guess is that his contract will not be extended and he has one year to put the team back in to the national picture.

+1

I'll eat my keyboard if Maine has a new coach next fall. Not that I'd mind. Maybe with a little Sriracha sauce it wouldn't be bad . . .

I guess the more interesting question is what sort of 2013-2014 season would he need to have to get a renewal?

Timmay's definition of "back in the national picture" is probably a lot different than mine. A 500 season for him is back in the national picture, I mean afterall, he does seem to be Mr. Mediocrity. :)

To get a renewal? Undefeated of course. :)
