Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

As much as this pains me, I actually agree with PRICELESS.....this would be a good scenario....and give Marty some rest, too....

Har de har har...dont give it any more thought. Maine wont win Friday and Timmay will be desperate for Saturday and lose again, and hopefully that will put an end to his great career at Maine.

Priceless said:
In Hockey East play since the end of December, Martin Ouellette is 3-0-4/1.23/.955 on Friday but 1-5-1/3.65/.881 on Saturday. The recipe for the Black Bears is to spring the upset Friday, hope UMA loses and the 8-seed is secured so they can rest Marty and start Morris or Sullivan on Saturday.

As do I...

So you're hoping Maine gets swept on national TV by it's chief rival? What a fan!

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

That's what I'm hoping for, Priceless. The sooner this coach hits rock bottom, the sooner we get a new one, in my opinion. Then things will improve.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

There are people on this thread so obsessed with removing the coach that they can't stand to see a group of young men enjoy success. Absolutely absurd.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Actually, we'd like to see them see a whole lot of success in the future. But first, they need to be given the right tools, and the sooner, the better. If long term success means short term failure, Im rooting for the short term failure.

Or, you could just keep on experiencing seasons like this year after year. How's that feel? How do you suppose those young men will like it?

Has it occurred to you that his won-loss record may in fact have nothing to do with his tenure as coach? If Maine gets humiliated twice on national TV and the university can't afford to buy him out or Steve Abbott decides not to pull the trigger on his way out the door and leave the job to his successor, what exactly has been accomplished by them losing this weekend?

You also assume things will automatically get better once a new coach is in place...what happens if it doesn't? Are you going to go back to hoping Maine loses? This isn't a question just for Unca, but for everyone who thinks cheering against Maine is a good idea.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

I struggle with that, run. But what I've come to is I would rather this group know abject failure than to have many, many more kids know the failure of almost-mediocrity that is embodied by Whitey. I see it like ripping off a band-aid: do you want the agony in one fell swoop, or do you want to prolong it ad infinitum? I don't like what it does to these kids, I really don't. But I want it to stop.

I think their is some merit to this comment. I want them in the HE tourney, it gives the young guys that experience which will help them in the future. With Marty in net Maine can win a game maybe not 2 but...... I think Tims time has passed but I can't wish for them to lose to spite him

So Priceless, where in this comment do I wish for Maine to lose? In actuality there is only two things I want. The kids to be successful and the coach to be gone. I think Unc's band aid analogy is spot on. If you dont understand that, you've got a problem.

Bingo Wally. we all want Tim gone. But I think the experience of having a liittle taste of playoff experience will be invaluable come next year and beyond. And like you said who knows, depending on the match up they very well could end up at the gahdin. Cheering for them to get swept, esp against UHN on national TV is stupid. I'll be cheering my arzz off for both games for them to win. TIMMAY ain't going anywhere, make the playoffs or not. I don't get how everyone doesn't understand that.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Doesn't matter who the coach is, unless Maine can start getting top talent again, they will continue to be an afterthought. Sure Walsh could get his players to skate through a brick wall for him, but you're kidding yourselves if you don't think even his least talented teams were off the charts vs the bunch of 4th liners on your current roster. So again, how is this new coach going to sell Maine to the future Paul Kariyas of this world?

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Do Lowell, Providence and Merrimack really have that much better talent than is on this Maine roster?

Shore, Lomberg, Hutton, S. Swavely, and Merchant are good Freshmen. By all accounts Morgan, Gleinke, Byron and Renouf are all highly regarded coming in. So better talent is on the way and has already arrived. What a coach gets out of them? It remains to be seen if a coach can get the most out of them and who that coach might be. Oh and Pecararo, Roberto, Salerno and Cloonan by all accounts appear to be good recruits as well.

Cloonan has 6 goals in 33 EJHL games while BC recruit Chris Calnan has 27 goals in 2 fewer games. If Cloonan is "good" then what does that make Calnan? Your idea of what's a good player isn't what it used to be.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

I don't have any doubts that things would be better with a new coach- at the very least, a new coach wouldn't have trouble maintaining the status quo. That isn't good enough, but it would be pretty impossible to do worse.

My issue, and why I don't root for losses, is that I think that the success of the team has zero bearing on the decision on whether to retain Whitehead. No one in the administration cares, no one in the athletic department is capable of taking any sort of decisive leadership role, and as long as the team keeps itself out of the police blotter, it can just plod along well under .500.

Maybe not "much" better, but better nonetheless.

Not this again. What did Maine do with Brian Flynn (firist NHL goal last night), Spencer Abbott, Gustav Nyquist, and a bunch of other AHL regs O'Neill, Dimmen, House......

Talent was the issue maybe in 08 and youth of that talent in 09 and maybe this yr. Otherwise its not. Its getting the most out of them and getting them to be consistent.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

I don't see Maine stealing a point - assuming UNH is up for the series the way they have been for the past 15 years or so.

If UNH tries to give one away, though, all bets are off. It's up to the Wildcats. How much does Umile hate Maine? (I kid. Sort of).

If Maine does get 8th, I don't really care who they face.

Scratch that. I hope it's BC. No guts no glory. This team's going nowhere this season. The most I can hope for is some postseason experience for the newcomers. And since the postseason will be over after one round . . . might as well get as much as you can in that round. I have to think BC will be looking forward to seeing Maine for another 2 @ Conte. It'll either be a gigantic confidence boost if Maine steals a win, or a good measuring stick to show the frosh what they should aspire to achieve by March 2014 or 15.

Yup, all around.

This Maine team isn't going to win their first series, even if they get to play one, but it would be helpful if they got a little playoff experience.

I'll take BC, just for fun.

Second or third that. I hope Maine backs into the 8th spot and then gets a BC team bent on redemption for the recent embarrasment. Just to bring Timmay back to reality

Having said that, I dont see it happening.
