Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Eh what do you want the kids to say? We quit? They're going to show up at the rink and try to play hard and try to enjoy it and try to win a hockey game. They have to look for something, positive, mentally. And if they hate the guy, their teammates or the program they're not going to say so on the record in the BDN in the middle of the season.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Right. TIMMAY's whole shtick is to say to them "don't worry about it, we'll just keep working on those little things in practice, and we'll keep getting better day by day".

They lose a game: No big deal, we'll fix a few things and we'll get them next time.
They make a mistake: Don't worry about it, we can correct that in practice. Unless he benches them instead.
Haven't won a game at home all season: Don't worry about it, we keep working and it'll come eventually.

There's no urgency, no playing with a sense of desperation, no do or die mentality, because you know, if it doesn't work out, there's always the next game, or next week, or next season. Just once I'd like to see them leave it all on the ice for one game, like it's the last game they'll ever play.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

you want to see, on the same slide, salaries going this way and ticket revenue going the other.
(and make sure to adjust the salary for the local cost of living... I do not want to hear that Jerry York or Mark Dennehy make "X" while timmy makes "Y"... A house in Bangor costs about half to a third of what Dennehy's house costs..)

$190K in penobscot county is certainly top 1%, while $190 in andover or boston is probably about top 45%.

45%? I doubt 45% of people in Boston make more than 190K. I think I read a report that the average salary in Boston is in the 40s, but of course a professional senior level salary is going to be much higher.

just for fun, I just used a cost of living calculator that says $190K in Bangor would require$266K in Boston to maintain the same standard of living. It also says that the average salary is 25% higher in Boston so one could expect to make around $238K doing the same job in Boston.

Interesting stuff.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that I could have coached Maine to a 5-14 start, just by dumping a bucket of pucks on the ice every day, and telling them to do whatever their HS/Junior coaches had already told them to do in practice... And I'll do it for $180K a year!

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

If the locker room atmosphere is positive for a team with Maine's record, that scares me even more. I'd honestly be happier to hear him say that they are all at each others' throats.

Exactly!

What in the name of Jim Jones is going on up there?!?!?:rolleyes:

About the only thing Tim has gotten them to do right this year is present a unified front to the media. Of course Larry helps that along, as well. It is much easier to get cozy with the team if you don't ask the hard questions.

yup... the high school team i took over as head coach of this season has already exceeded their total goals from last season and have more wins, and we are only 10 games into an 18 game season... pretty sure i could outperform timmay...

sadly, i wish was being facetious...

Fact is, these kids shouldn't be talking to BDN, Portland Press Herald, WABI, Bill O'Reilly, Oprah, No One. They have enough on their plates trying to compete in Hockey East where they are getting their *** kicked. They are 18-24 yr olds with little knowledge of how to handle the media. And when they do talk to the press, they get criticized here and in other media outlets.

Name all the good things that can happen to the Maine Hockey Program if the players talk to the media and have it published. Nuff said.

Yeah a media blackout would really help. Face palm.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

This team is not satisfied with their performance As players they have all had success at various levels , and have been in the top 1% of their age groups to get to this point. The Timmy of Sunnydale Farm approach to smoothing over the horros of the last few season doesn't wash well with them, but with few notable exceptions, they are disinclined to be vocal as Tm will play his favorites even more Can you imagine a program where Bill Norman is your key Power play guy? Where Flu keeps a player out of a tournament, days BEFORE the tourney? Where a captain misses game due to a sore neck inclurred by sleeping badly? Where a succesful former NHL player is told to not be to hard on the kids, and that practices rely on whiteoards more than producing sweat? 2 hour video sessions...? These players have enormous heart,,,,how many blocked shots do we see a lot, tim prefers no hitting...Think Rutt, nemec, Cornell, O'Connor, Williams or Riley want that..... Fire him now The prgram you save may be our own

This is not the first time I have heard this...especially from a few former players. Why else would a captain be benched for a quarter of a season as a "coaching decision' (and according to some on here it was the right thing to do)

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I was wondering why some of my posts got nuked
I haven't touched your posts so if any have disappeared you should take it up with the other mods. Believe me, don't believe me. I don't care.

I'll do it for $100K. Where do I sign, Abbott?

Such as "Why is your coach such an F-tard?"

But that's cause they're all a year older. It takes time to develop scoring, and learn how to win games, don'tcha know?
