Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Maine Baseball defeats Albany in the America East Championship and advances to the NCAA Tournament.

Was really excited to see this happen.Gonna have a chance to watch them on cable now,and maybe they can win a game or two more.(When I was a young lad at Maine, baseball was the "flagship program",hands-down.Loved those 13-12 games at Mahaney.)

I noticed that this past year's men's hoops squad was named Maine's "Team of the Year",going 15-15 after returning practically all of their scoring from the previous season. This is an indicator of the overall poor health of athletics at Maine, but I do see signs that things will looking up soon.Maybe we got our new AD just in time to save us from complete doormat status.

PLAY BALL!

Larry comments on Jimmy winning title

Yeah, Grant was too old and wanted to quit:rolleyes:

Thanks for the link.

I want this guy behind the bench ASAP.He might be a little green yet,but who cares..?He'll find a way to win at Maine,or die trying.

I don't think Tim is ever gonna figure it out.I'd rather see a real Bear in there who understands what the program can be,than to endure yet another year of square-peg/round-hole coaching. This coming season is probably going to be brutal no matter how you slice it,but I can live with that if a new regime is in place, working on making Maine relevant again.

Sign me up to contribute to the buyout.

How many games under Timmay's "tutelage" will it take Morris to begin playing like chit ?? I say about 5.
Lets hope that Whitehead is NOT around when Morris comes to UMaine Hockey.

Your not the only one fed up with the direction this program is going in...there are many and lets hope the NEW A.D. is listening and seeing first hand the mess that Whitehead has turned this program into...also I followed Montgomery/Dubuque Fighting Saints this season thru their newspaper: -- dubuquetelegraphherald.com -- they followed the team/coaches/players all season long and had very interesting articles,Montgomery is motivated and is willing to learn all the aspects of coaching and running a team...he's doing his work to some day be behind a Div.1 College Hockey bench...and like you said there may and will be bumps in the road, but whoever brings him in will get a worker with a PASSION for the game and the program he's running.

Nice to see a Maine reject sign a pro deal. Wonder how much Sill would have helped the last couple of years? http://www.trurodaily.com/News/Local/2011-05-16/article-2510841/Sill-signs-twoyear-deal-with-Pens/1.
I guess nobody will really know, after he got tossed off the team by TW...he just had started his career @ Maine and ended just as fast. From what I saw of him he could have been a useful 3rd liner with grinding style of play...but then again...who knows for sure.

Timmy still does not have the nads to admit that he tossed Zach ONLY to ensure that Tim himself did not lose his job... Zach did nothing wrong... The newspapers scared Timmy... and "useful thirdliners" in college hockey do not play as long as Zach has in the AHL... he would have been a real NCAA star, had he been allowed to play hockey at Maine

Maybe...Maybe not.

ok... trivia question... which grinding (and by that I am guessing you are saying complete non scorer) NCAA third liner has had a successful AHL career, as long as Zach, on a top AHL team, earning more than just a few 1st/2nd/3rd Star of the game awards?
almost all of the forwards who make it in the AHL were STARS in the NCAA

Moorsie was all american, and is really no more than a grinder in the AHL (and a great guy to have as a team mate)
Sill would have been great at Maine... bellamy style with the ability to score more often that Diamond... and a great team mate
(but, alas, I know that the problem with my entire premise is "bellamy style" and "playing at maine" just don't go together.

We might even have a Hobey Candidate in Spencer Abbott this season. I sure can't wait until the puck drops.

I can't understand the pessimism

If you hadn't been making these gag posts before the long weekend, I would have assumed you were still drunk after a nice long weekend celebrating Memorial Day (admirable for sure). But now I really can't for the life of me figure out why you're saying this.

call it anything you want... I can promise you that Tim's inability to have his players' backs means that MANY of them think twice before coming to play under him.

he is not an honorable guy, he looks out only for himself
as much as I respect Jerry York, he covers for his bad boys as much as he possibly can

and ... where is the answer to the "trivia question"?

grinders in the NCAA do not turn into decent scoring threats on top AHL teams...

We all know that Whitehead is a "Control Freak" and his time has come to leave, stuck with him for sure this season, after that who knows...but the longer he stay's the worst you can expect from his teams and taking this program down the drain. As far as Sill,I hope the best for him,but do you really think he's going to make a difference in Pittsburgh, thats if he even makes the roster..?
