You'd think they'd tell a season ticket holder who's section, row and seats are gone from Alfond that he had a chance to do this, wouldn't ya?

Yeah, you would think that. But this is the Umaine athletic department we're talking about here.

But the sad part is the Ticket Office workers have to take the bull from "TICKED OFF" Ticket Buyers and their job is to JUST sell the tickets while the A.D. should have people in place to ensure that season ticket holders and would be season ticket buyers could be explained what is going on now and what has happen to their former seats and how it will all work out before the season begins....like you said only at UMaine.

Also, while I understand that adding safety netting behind the goals is probably a good idea to protect people (especially in the student section during warmups) I'm really dissapointed that the I'm going to have to watch the games through an obstruction.

I think its a liability issue with the band (which is why they don't go up there during warmups). The kids in the band are getting course credit and are required to be there, so if a band member is injured the university can't play the "attend at your own risk" card.

Supposedly season tickets go out Friday

Maine is not the only team in the Hockey East to have lost key players. If thier goaltending holds up, watch out for our boys to surprise a lot of people this year.

Big "if", regarding the goaltending...And way too big an "if" to allow us much hope re: the coming season,if you ask me.Maine hasn't had reliable 'tending for some time now.

I'd kill for another Frank Doyle right now, never mind another Jimmy...It's startling that a school which has produced Dunham,Snow,Howard and Bishop(among many others) can't seem to dig up even an average D-1 net-minder anymore.

Yes, for the most part. Pep Band is an elective and credit can be awarded if they want. Second, kids don't have to go to all of the games as long as they get a sub from the other band and make up for it (yes, there's actually two pep bands, A and B, about 50 in each. Third, I think it's more for the protection of the instruments, since when has the university cared for the safety or anything about the students...

The nets are a good idea. Go to any other rink in the country with them and you don't notice them unless you're looking for them. They're black mesh netting, they're basically invisible.

Jeez louise, calm down, it said they were fixing it.

Yeah, but they didn't have the foresight to realize this in the first place??? Doesn't UM have a great engineering dept.? Nothing is ever as good as originally designed when you have to frig with it......elbows, new seams.......good grief! Unfortunately, this carries on the tradition of bad designs for that building......add to that replacing bench seating with bench seating and nets behind the goals......worst $4.85 million renovation ever!

I understand the concern and frustration. I am a believer that Maine's past two seasons though hampered by mediocre, and at times heartless play by most, could have been salvaged by some solid goaltending (in must-win games, at least...i.e...the 7 goal HE championship game, last years playoff Merrimack series etc). But sadly that was not the case. But I also feel that Sullivan and Oullette gained valuable experieence in thier rookie campaign. Maybe my confidence is blind but I think the boys in the locker room know they underachieved last year. These boys were recruited at a time when Maine was still making it to Frozen Fours on a regular basis. This is why they came to Maine. They saw guys like House, Van Dyke, Banwell, Dee and Dimmen go a whole career without making it to the tourney. They know how that must have felt. Its a feeling they don't want to have. Don't underestimate the power of embarassment.

I'd love to see our goalies actually challenge the shooters this season. One of the strengths Ouellette had coming to Maine was his ability to cut down angles and be aggressive towards shooters, and we didn't really see that last season. Given that he entered the year with an injury and didn't get consistent playing time, I'd say he never got a chance to work on that.

Also, wasn't it rumored last year that Ouellette was a QMJHL flight risk? I wonder if he continues to take a backseat to Sullivan this season if he bolts to the "Q" with Morris coming in next year.

I absolutely hate the nets. They're a good idea for warmups but when you have one puck on the ice there shouldn't really be any danger if you're paying attention.

My god, what real difference will the nets make? They're only going to be on the ends of the rink anyway. The only seats that will be actually looking through a net will the skyboxes and the balcony. Every other rink in the league has them. They're basically invisible...

That picture doesn't do justice to what the difference in visibility truly is. I friggin hate sitting behind a net.

During the game...I think they call that Darwinism...

Well, either that or Morris gets the backburner for an extra year. Then HE becomes a retainment risk. Then we're stuck scrambling for scraps last minute again. Maine needs to weed out one of the 3 after this year.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Along those lines..

Sullivan seemed to offer the greatest level of consistency and composure.

Shawn had a few glaring lapses including the UNH last minute debacle, but at the end of the day, the team only took 1 regulation loss in front of him. He let in quite a few coachable softies, without which, he wins a few more games and the goalie debate takes a different form. Who knows how he'll look, or where he'll fit.

Marty is supposed to be the most naturally talented keeper on the roster.

You could go so many different directions with this. You could argue that a 3-way dance won't help anyone out, but you have an overwhelming need to make a move or let someone walk after this year. So who gets the axe? The #1 job became Sullys, and you'd be hard pressed to have Marty ride pine again, so the 'obvious choice' seems to be Sirman...and yet...I have an awful hard time making him the perma-door opener when he was a ridiculous, fixable softy away from 1 loss in 9 decisions and (taken with a grain of salt:) the best save pct of the 3 last year.

Who knows?!
