Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year
I didn't pay very close attention to what last season's Freshmen contributed...But I was shocked to read 2-7-9,for the entire class???Gonna take more than bringing them in early to get Maine back on the map again,IMO.
Tim is grasping at straws, clearly.I commend him for trying to do what he can to improve the situation, but I still think that he's not the man for this job.Pretty sure that the coming season will make it obvious.
Part of that is that for the most part, TIMMAY won't play his freshmen in any significant roles unless he absolutely needs to, or they're so good, or the team is lacking in any depth, that he needs to. How much ice time have Amestoy, O'Connor, Nemec, Anthoine, Beattie, Pryor, and countless others in the past, gotten when they were freshmen? TIMMAY plays defensemen at forward and forwards at defense rather than play a freshman player in their natural position, when they do get a shot, they make a mistake and they're back in his doghouse in the stands, and as a result, they've been slow to develop, and find a place within the team.
This year he has no choice, and he knows it, after losing just about all his scoring and his top defense from last season, the year that was supposed to be "the year". Either freshmen step up and produce right away, or he's out of a job, and he knows it.
Unfortunately, looks like he missed his opportunity to go back and lead his alma mater.
