Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Expecting a big year for our Blackbears. Flynn, Abbott, Diamond all primed to soar.
We are pretty good on the back end too and we ave great returning goaltending.

Same as last season, and where'd that get ya? Will be the same this year as long as TIMMAY and his 'look of confusion' is behind the bench

Little early to be dipping in the sauce. Sober up, then give us your analysis.

You lose 42% of your goals, top 2 defensman, and return goaltending that last year had a combined .0.884 save% and of course you return Timmay? I don't think the numbers are necessarily as bad as they seem, there are plenty of good scorers and ME still has O'neil, but you do NOT return great goaltending and your coach isn't really the type of guy that seems to really develope players. I would expect an average upper mid-pack year... 3-5.

Was this 4 am post a last post before bed or a just after waking up and huffing some household chemicals post?

They have some scorers, but who will get them the puck,no playmakers...the defense could be ok,but not allowed to play a physical game by there Head Coach and the goaltending is the biggest question mark of the team, they have to improve by a high percentage and that is iffy at best,if the goaltending comes back like last year or is just a notch better then you can see a under .500 team at best....there's ALOT of work to be done and with a Coach that just makes excuses...well thats a hard recipe to fix. On paper this team could very well be a 6th or 7th place team in Hockey East play....and NO NC$$'s again.

Can you say rehab? The D was biggest problem last year and they lose Dimmen and Van Dyk the only two that weren't a mess back there and you think the back end will be good? And then the returning goaltending had the 2nd worst save percentage in the entire country last year and that is great goaltending....wow times have changed!!

The goalies save percentage wasn't great, but he went on a hot streak and had 3 shutouts, if he can work hard over the summer I think we will be ok. Not to mention Martin has the best credentials and mechanics, and had yet to bloom.

I like your optimism and positive attitude. Because college hockey players are young and still developing, you never really know how the team will ultimately perform. On paper they have weaknesses, but as the saying goes "that's why they play the games".

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

I see no real reason for optimism.

Gus is gone, and so goes our best scorer/playmaker.I still think that the recruiting is looking up a bit,but I don't see the scoring improving very much right away...In fact,I expect it to go South.(Maybe way South.)

The D is still a bit of a mess, and I don't see a Messiah among whom Maine has in net, either.Marty would be my choice as the project of the year, but I don't see any of this 'tending crew figuring it out anytime soon.None of these guys are ready for prime-time,IMO.

I hate to be so negative, but there is no logical reason under the sun to think that Maine will be better than an also-ran next season.I will be completely amazed if they finish higher than 5th in HE.

Your NOT being negative, your speaking the truth...thats the picture we see right now and have seen over the last few years...until there's a change behind the bench you can count on 5th to 7th place finishes in Hockey East, maybe a trip to Boston every once in 4-5 years,NO NC$$'s...going from a top 25 program to the bottom 20 program of College Hockey. And lets hope that A.D. Abbott is taking notice...IF NOT well the Day's of Old Time Maine Hockey will be just a MEMORY.

Double header at Fenway...

Maine v UMass
UVM v UHN

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

What..? Which is it last weeks UNH/Maine or this weeks double dip..? Who's reporting this/Hockey East..?

Those were preliminary talks. The Powers That Be decided it would be better to have a doubleheader, and BU/BC is not a possibility.

Multiple sources indicate these are the matchups. There has been talk about including Northeastern instead of UVM, but the inclusion of Maine, UHN and UMass appears to be a done deal.

If that's true, that is a shame. Maine/UNH would have generated a lot more excitement and would have been a much bigger draw.

Maine /UNH would be a great draw. And I agree very exciting. Go Black Bears!
