MacNaughton cup champions vs. the team from the Cleveland Steamer World Arena

Re: MacNaughton cup champions vs. the team from the Cleveland Steamer World Arena

Boo 'em all you want, but these seniors had DU's number for three of their four seasons.

They sure did have DU's number. And the booing, I think, was for exactly that reason. CC owned us for most of the last four years, despite some very good DU teams in that span. That's a lot of pent-up frustration. I think CC's seniors were laughing on the ice because I think they could feel DU's envy in those boos.

Great Game by DU. Hats off to them for Manhandling the Tigers last night. I'll settle for the weekend split. DU already into NCAAs and CC looks doubtful with huge climb to make it. Congrats to both DU and CC cuz up until last night it was a tight year head to head. CC got their 500+ season. Going into the season 500 or better was my hope for the team. Certainly disheartening to see them fad at the end though, *&%$#$.

I'll be at the Final five in 2 weeks win or lose for Tigers as that is truly where hockey is King. I have some great F5 moments burned into my brain but I'll never forget the hit...
Best of luck to Tigers the rest of the way...

The fact that 90% of the CC fans (maybe more) have no tie to the school is fine. Heck, I'm one of those fans, and it has no bearing on whether I cheer, it has no bearing on how much I appreciate each senior class, and it doesn't make me love this team any less than someone who went to CC. Heck, the run of the mill fans at WA are far more into the game than those at DU.

Students and other road fans can be great, loud, boisterous, etc. without being downright disrespectful. Northeastern and BU are both good examples of this, along with New Hampshire, Cornell, Maine, and even BC to a point (along with plenty of others that I'm sure I missed). For this weekend's home and home for NU and BU, I didn't hear a single road fan booing the home team's seniors on either senior night, yet once that puck dropped, the fans were into the game, even with the NU students on spring break.

CC's student section is awful and embarrassing, there's no question about that. However, CC doesn't need DU to teach the course in Student section behavior. If we were to do that, I'd rather get some NU Doghouse members, or some Cornell fans, or Wisconsin, or countless others.

That said, I think it's great that DU has rejuvenated the home student section and began to travel better (largely due to the efforts of you and other alumni, dg). I remember the Regional in the Springs in 2004 barely had any DU fans in attendance, and things have improved greatly since then. But SOME class would be nice, especially if there was yelling during the anthem and booing of the CC seniors last night. Some lines just shouldn't be crossed, IMO. Boo 'em all you want, but these seniors had DU's number for three of their four seasons.
Two things. For those who weren't there the booing had a good-natured friendly vibe to it. It wasn't shrieking for profanity laced. It was very funny depending on your perspective.

No one "yelled" during the National Anthem. They sang loudly, very loudly. Because of the echo and the reverb in the building, they got ahead of the choir singing. Amazingly the choir and the DU Singers finished the song exactly on cue.

I've seen this happen at an Astros playoff game, where the crowd is so amped up they blow past the singer. Nothing to see here, move along. :)

Since I was not there, I tried to be careful to use "if" when referring to the yelling/booing, rather than throwing the accusation out there. Hopefully that came across.

Ok, moving along...:)

Read David Ramsey's article in the Gazette. He mentions the DU crowd twice. :D

I didn't think the anthem thing was a big deal at all. All they did was sing it really loud just behind the singers on the ice. They were calling attention to themselves and that offended some of the home town crowd. One old lady near me looked like she wanted to go up there and mix it up with all of them.

One of the cardinal rules in sports is: no cheering in the press box. Judging by the tone of the article, perhaps we should add: no seppuku either. :D

Could you ever see a Denver Post columnist calling Colorado Springs or CC as the Evil Empire of the South? I doubt it. The Denver Post wants a statewide readership. The Gazette is much more of a hometown paper. What I liked about Ramsey's piece was that he captured the emotions of the night very well from the CC fans' point of view, his primary readership, which given the results of last night's beat down, could also be savored by the DU fan who's into the whole schadenfreude element of the rivalry.

It's always a good day when you can work "schadenfreude" into a discussion of a DU/CC hockey game! ;)

Everyone in the DU section wanted to sing the anthem as loudly and PROUDLY as possible. It was similar to what is done in Chicago for the Anthem there...except we were actually SINGING IT.

It was the determination of everyone to do everything possible that could be done to create atmosphere. Nothing was done out of malice or disrespect, much of it was out of wanting to make sure that the Pioneers knew they had a loud and vocal support behind them. It was also a mission to make sure that the Home crowd was drowned out....

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED....and not in the George Bush way either...we actually finished the job on CC last night.:D

What was truly shocking was the fact that after the first period, I went through the concourses...Im used to hearing people yell "DU Sucks
" and other terms of endearment to me. Everyone was in complete and utter shock. It was as if they'd seen a ghost. I swear people were pale as if they were sickened.

Im impressed...."schadenfreude" and "seppuku" in the same topic!!! Our vocabulary skills are showing! :D

Yep--I hear ya, mission accomplished in the truest form. I also hear you on the state of shock. I heard one guy say we'll at least there's baseball to look forward to.

I was in shock myself the next day--feeling like maybe it was just a dream. That first period was better than a script could of produced.
