Re: Lunch

Leftover Friday night nachos (chips, Mexican cheese, ground beef, black beans, green pepper, red onion, lime/serrano hot sauce, sour cream, avocado).

Way better than any nachos you'll order at a sporting event, I assure you. :D

You should start a thread about this.

Re: Lunch

I ate some nachos...

Baseball themed pot luck today. Hotdogs, nachos, peanuts. It lacked beer. I ate too much.
I made cupcakes and frosted them with white frosting and red icing to look like baseballs, because I'm a dork.

Re: Lunch

Sam lagrassa's today

Spicy chicken sandwich and fries

Stopped on the way back to grab a 20oz coke zero :)

Re: Lunch

The guy at Chipotle shorted me on the steak in my tacos. *grumble* Had to drive about 15 minutes from work to get there so they should make sure it's worth my while and give me a little extra, right? :)

If you show up to Chipotle just before the doors close for the day, sometimes they'll say, "You want guacamole? We close soon, guacamole no extra." A ray of sunlight broke through the night sky, through the window, and spotlighted my friends and me that very day. We saved $1.60 and we had our guacamole.

I don't get beans in my burrito, and they usually toss in some extra rice and meat instead.

Re: Lunch

Had a shawarma wrap today. I'm positively addicted to garlic sauce.

I miss true shawarma. The Holy Land near me gives it a go, but it's more gyro than schwarma but it's good enough.

When I was in Bahrain I could call the Iskenderun Grill just about 24/7 and have 3 shawarmas and a Coke delivered to my door for about 2 bucks. A $2 tip was enough to ensure I always got great service and delivery in less than 20 minutes. The cucumber sauce was heavenly, topped with Red Hot or whatever and it shames anything of its kind I've found locally.

Had to look up this "shawarma." Not a fan of the toppings at first look, but the gist of it...I want.

Were I to liken it to something close, it beats the pants off of Dinos and any quick order tacos. There's no mystery to the ingredients (shaved beef or chicken from a spit, tomato, onion, sauce) in basically a folded pita.

I read the wiki, and they said cooked for a day or so? Basically making it tender as all hell. It's the little things. :)

Re: Lunch

Here in the D we have large populations of Greek and Lebanese descendents, as well as 1st/2nd generation Arabs. I have a secret gyro place about 5 mins. from work that makes the most awesome pita bread ever - homemade dough, grilled so that it's lightly crispy outside, but fluffy inside. That plus the fact that you can see them shave the meat off the rotisserie (which is rare anymore), makes the greatest gyros I've ever had (plus the tomato, onion, and tzatziki).

The shawarma concept is similar, and there is a place a little over 10 mins. from the office that does it probably about as close as possible in America. As opposed to the ground gyro "sausage cone" (which I do love, see above), they seem to layer the seasoned meat into a loaf, which they shave off the rotisserie, then pile into a rolled pita with pickled beets, onions, and garlic sauce. It's great.

Yup. Slice meat, stack on the spit until yae high, turn and roast, baste, slice, shawarma!
