LSSU Lakers 2020-21

With Michigan Tech getting no points tonight, Lakers clinch a home ice berth for the first round of the WCHA Playoffs. If the Lakers win in regulation tomorrow, they will finish 2nd and host UAH. Getting 1-2 points will get the Lakers 3rd place and would most likely host NMU. Getting no points and Bemidji getting all 6 points against UAH will result the Lakers finishing 4th and hosting Tech.

I think Ferris will give the Lakers fits. They won't want to end up without a single league win. Hope the Lakers don't get too cocky after the success against Bemidji and expect an easy win.

Not correct. Tiebreakers have changed this year. First tiebreaker is head to head...even though nobody played 4 times. The highest BSU can finish is 4th, as BG and LSSU win head to head tie breakers

The 2nd tiebreaker is higher winning percentage in league games. If Lakers lose to Ferris in regulation and Bemidji sweeps UAH, both would have 24 points. Bemidji would have 8-5-1 league record which would beat the Lakers 8-6-0 record.

I have not posted on the LSSU thread in several years, but as an alumni I am incredibly proud to see the season the Lakers have put together. For myself as a student, the pinnacle of Laker hockey was watching the Lakers beat Ohio State in a home playoff series. The pinnacle as an alumni Laker hockey fan was being at Little Caesars arena in person to see the Lakers win the GLI in 2018. To finish 2nd behind an incredibly potent Minnesota State team, this has been a very honorable season the Lakers have put together and to be in the serious mix for an NCAA berth, i am happy to say that this is the pinnacle of all of my Laker fandom. Few, if any, Division 1 hockey teams face the obstacles that the LSSU hockey program does with regards to budget, recruiting, etc. The job that Whitten and his staff have done with little resources compared to their competitors is simply awesome. My highest regards to Coach Whitten, his staff, and his players. You all have done this school incredibly proud....the obvious hope is that this is the start of a great run for the Lakers, but in any case, this team has made its Mark and made a difference for all of the Laker hockey fans spread across the state and the country. For once and for always, Go Lakers!!

Damon Whitten gets shafted yet again for WCHA Coach of the Year. Oh well, hope the Lakers are ready to play against UAH. They are good enough to win the series as Fessenden can steal some games. It won't be easy considering the Chargers are feisty and play very hard.

I figured he wouldn't win. It's just another reason why I'm glad to leave the WCHA.

I noticed the Lakers haven't gotten any Hockey News North coverage this year.

Randy only really cares about his native Canadian Soo guys when it comes the Lakers. Pretty sure him & Damon don't get along either. The most recent stuff he did was mostly bashing the team anyways.
Though I'm not one to talk, we haven't covered them either, but with it being such an odd year, well, things just go that way some times.

You must have a lot of faith that St. Thomas' coach will vote for Damon...that's the only new voter going forward.

I don’t know if the CCHA will be amazing, but I do have faith that the new conference won’t be run quite as poorly. Just this year we were left wondering about tiebreakers the last week of the regular season and if teams would be reseeded in the playoffs while the playoffs were going on.

It’s time to put this league out to pasture.

I agree with what you're saying, but the teams knew what was going on. Just because we didn't, doesn't mean that decisions were being made last minute. Transparency with the fans was an issue, though...I agree!

So what’s the status of Mitens? I didn’t ever catch the reason why he didn’t play. I hope it was just rest and he’s 100% for the Bemidji game.

I think he was just being rested. Good time for it. If the Chargers had won Saturday, I think he would have played Sunday in a deciding game.
