LSSU Lakers 2018-19

Re: LSSU Lakers 2018-19

According to Damon on tonight's Laker Hockey Show, the Lakers will play both Alaska schools on back to back weekends in one trip January next season. I'm assuming that will be shortly after New Years. Great to know the Lakers won't have to take two separate trips to Alaska.

Any word on holiday tournaments for LSSU? I thought Ice Vegas might be a fun one but if they are doing all of that travel up to Alaska in January, maybe not. Although they could probably get a good flight from Vegas to Alaska.

Hey Lakers, Colgate fan here, Great to see you guys doing so well again. I remember the days of glory, watching you in Albany NY, winning NCAA's in the late 80's and early 90's. Partying with you guys and making many friends as you invited us to the Hilton or wherever the team was staying for the afterparty. I never forgot, so, good luck to you going forward and maybe see you again in the NCAA's sometime. Won't be this year as my team is awful.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2018-19

The main USCHO page has a nice article about the team up right now.

I agree it's really nice to see the guys get some good press. I listen to an interview with Damon on the USCHO page also. It's my fault for not listening to other interviews but I was impressed with what he had to say about this years team and his background.

What happened to everyone that was complaining when Whittens contract was renewed. Give Mr. Paitson credit. He didn’t make the popular decision. He made the right one.

I hadn't heard about so much tragedy following the Lakers around. That's tough for young men to deal with at any stage of life, much less trying to be D-I men's ice hockey players.

Good luck in the postseason. I don't think we'll be seeing UAH coming to the Soo (if they make the playoffs at all).

Yeah, you have a big series against Ferris this weekend but if you can get a win there you'll be in pretty good shape.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2018-19

Lakers are 0-5-1 the last 6 games at NMU. Last time the Lakers swept NMU in Marquette was in the 2010-11 season when both teams were in the CCHA. Hopefully the Lakers can end the subpar results the past decade or so this weekend.

I was looking at NMU's game notes for the series history, and geez whoever puts those together for Northern should learn how to properly spell Sault Ste. Marie. I expect the "St." abbreviation from people who don't know better, but c'mon this is a fellow UP school.

(Also they called it ALL-TIME RESULTS VS. BEMIDJI STATE, not a good day for their athletic comm. staff)

I mean, it IS NMU, where the 'N' stands for 'Nowledge'

I have said all along that the work Whitten put in after the previous A.D. left and 3/4 of the athletic department followed suit that he earned himself another year. Last year was setup to be a failure from the start due to the massive turnover, and inability to get alot of things done before the season started. He has taken that earned year and done very well.

That being said, one good year in year 5 of his tenure doesn't make a 4-year contract extension the "right" move. He needs to build on this year and have another good year before we can have that conversation. It's definitely trending in the right direction though so I hope I can say next year it was definitely the right move.

He's going to have the most wins Lake State has had in one season since Jeff Jackson. Even if he doesn't do much the next few years, it was the right move just for that alone.

Jim Roque had 21 wins in 2006-2007. Damon still needs 2 wins to beat that. Lets not jinx him :P

Re: LSSU Lakers 2018-19

It would help for next weekend if Ferris State got eliminated from playoff contention this weekend. It would be nice to play a team not as desparate but I'm sure Ferris will win this weekend and stay in playoff contention into next weekend.
