LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Seeing that we are getting into July, what are some hopes people have for the upcoming season.

My hope is that they can get into the semifinal best of 3 playoff series.

It would be nice if they can do it by finishing 4th and winning a home playoff series. However, if they finish 5th or 6th and can advance on the road, that would be great as well.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

I think the Lakers can fight for a home ice playoff series this coming season.
The 2017-18 season is when I think it will all come together at any rate I think Damon and crew are on the right track.

The student section is being moved to behind the visitors bench this season so I have to move my season tickets but I do think it's a great idea. Sections A,B,C and D should make it more of a college hockey game atmosphere like most of the road games that we travel to.

I did hear about the student section move. Will be good to have them right behind the visitors bench.

Jimmy Dowd committed to Penn state. That's a bummer.

I agree with the student section move, it should be a nice boost for the Lakers to be able to see the students razz the opponents.

I'm hoping they can get their overall record up to around .500 or better and maybe challenge for home ice for the playoffs. It's still going to be a relatively young team at forward so a lot will depend upon how fast the forwards develop and continue to develop (for the guys coming back). For upperclassmen. at forward we'll only have Correale (Senior) and Henke (Junior), and possibly Angus. I believe Angus got his degree this Spring but still has one season of athletic eligibility left. I haven't heard anything either way about whether he will be back. We have 4 Junior D but I expect some of them to be challenged for ice time by at least a couple of the incoming D (particularly by Saccoman and Bindulis). Cole Hults is a question mark at D in my mind. He probably has a decent amount of raw talent but we'll have to see if he's ready for the college game yet. Maybe he is but I thought another season of Juniors might be best for him. If he shows that he is ready, great. I think we're set pretty well in net with Defiel and Kossoff, although this will be Gordie's last season.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Laker Hockey Talk show this morning at 8:30 streamed on Soo's ESPN 1400 station.

Guess we'll have to wait for the podcast. Internet audio stream of the show doesn't seem to be working. (Those local to the Soo area should still be getting the show on the radio.)

Bill, you were correct about Angus not coming back. I just listened to the podcast this morning I found it very interesting.

One thing that was off though is we picked out and purchased our season tickets on the 11th.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Looks as if the WCHA will be courting Arizona to joining the league .

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

I think the only way they go to the Wcha is if they don't get a suitable rink lined up for the other leagues standard.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

The WCHA is a back-up plan in case the NCHC doesn't accept ASU.

The second ASU gets their arena issue worked out they'll officially join the NCHC.
