LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Have not seen any practices, but I did get down to the Laker Launch yesterday. Got a look at this year's dark sweaters, which look quite nice. Also spotted a few things around the rink, such as putting back up the NCAA Quarterfinalist banners, putting references to 50 years on the ice and a nod to Butch Mousseau by the scorer's booth.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Anyone been to any practices yet to see how the new guys look?

Robert Blueger picked up his first couple of goals for Fairbanks (NAHL) over the weekend.

They are looking good, chum. This is a young talented team, under the watch of head coach Damon Whitten, steering the good ship Laker to more success and methinks a top-4 finish.

Seems Ron Forgarty had Adrian on a high note but is bombing with Princeton as they have been picked to finish last again in their league.

Can you let him get a full recruiting class to junior status before deciding he's bombing?

I'd give him another season or two before judging his performance at Princeton. It often takes 3-4 years to get a good feel for how a new coach is going to do. I do think they were more more competitive last season even though they still lost a lot of games.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

I wonder what the infatuation with LSSU is over Ron Fogarty

Part of the issue with Princeton (and Ivies in general, I might add) is the fact that I think they may have to recruit 2 years out due to their admission processes. Paraphrasing here, as it was explained to me. So, he effectively has 1 recruiting class under his belt that he 100% owns, he took over a 6-26 program, and he's bombed out in dramatic fashion. Got it.

Way too early to form any kind of opinion as you mentioned he took over a 6 win team. It takes time and I do hope he succeeds.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Let us hope Princeton is more generous with time than they were with Quesnell and Prier.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

On a sad note, Jean Ciotti, mother of Chris and the focus of much of last year's Pink in the Rink campaign, has lost her battle with cancer. The team posted a photo to its Facebook page of the team taking a knee at centre ice.

So the guy who owns Yes FM the Flag ship station of Laker Hockey was arrested for a 5th time in the last 5 years. ***?!?!?!

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

One week to go until the season starts. I think it's close enough to end the off-season thread and start the 2016-17 one.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Well, last nights game showed some promise. The Lakers were shooting on net often. They seemed to fatigue, or got lazy, after the second period and let the Laurentian team have too many chances. I am thinking that the multitude of penalties slowed the momentum of the game. There was a whistle ever few minutes. The Laker goaltending was good at times, but again looked caught off guard for at least one of the V's goals. Hope to see the intensity continue.

There is a new 2016-17 season Lakers thread already open. That's the place for further posts.
