LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

I can still remember how young Mason was when he took the coaching job at Lake State. Time sure flies and waits for no one.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Definitely was shocked by the news of Ron Mason's passing today. You just never know when your time on this earth is up. Condolences go out to the Mason family.

I was told by Damon that there will be a Canadian exhibition and a blue/gold scrimmage to round out the schedule. He didn't mention the dates.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Terrific man. Had a great chat with him at the GLI. Definitely a huge loss for college hockey.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Just a reminder to fellow Laker fans that the first of four off-season Laker Hockey Talk programs airs tomorrow morning at 8:30 on AM 1400.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Damon revealed the rest of the schedule on the Laker Hockey Talk show this morning. The Lakers play an exhibition game against Laurentian on Sunday, October 2 at 5pm and then play a blue/gold game on Saturday, October 8 at 1pm.

Good luck to Scott Patterson on his future.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Based upon today's show, this is my guess for this coming season's roster.

Forwards: JT Henke, Diego Cuglietta, Gus Correale, CJ Hayes, Jake Hand, Mitch Hults, Brendan Mckay, Anthony Nellis, Josh Nenadal, Gage Torrel, Luke Morgan, Max Humitz, Bryan Basilico, Brayden Gelsinger, Ian Johnston, Jayson Angus

D-Men: Ryan Renz, Matt McArdle, Jim Roll, Kyle Chatham, Aidan Wright, Owen Headrick, Collin Saccoman, Kristofers Bindulis, Cole Hults

Goalies: Gordie Defiel, Nick Kossoff, Aaron Davis

(I believe Jayson Angus got his degree this Spring but has a year of athletic eligibility left. I'm including him at this point although I'm not certain that he'll be back.)

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Yes, good luck to Scott. Looks like he's going to play for Simon Fraser University in British Columbia this season: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=102281

Simon Fraser would like to get their hockey team into an American college league. Their new AD thinks getting into a division 1 league would be a game changer for Simon Fraser . They already belong to the Great Northwest conference and now are looking to get into one of the division 1 conferences for hockey .

Their Div 1 challenge is going to be to find a conference that will accept them. It will require flying for every other Div 1 school to play there; no one is close enough to bus. Higher travel costs. They may very well have to subsidize travel.

Travel cost is killing everyone as it is now . Simon Fraser would have to subsidize for sure but the new AD is working hard to make it happen .

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

I think it is going to be a very interesting season . Seems to be the best bit of talent the Lakers have had in years taking to the ice . Let's hope they come back in great shape and make college hockey take notice .

There hasn't been an announcement. I expect one by the end of the calendar year, but they may not join a league until 18-19. They have to fix their arena situation first.

It is going to be hot in Arizona and wonder how many players from the north will really want to go to school there.
