I think most of us realize that there will likely be some number of players not coming back. How many, and which ones, should be known before too long; school starts shortly. Even then, I wouldn't be surprised to see the roster a little larger than normal for a couple of years before settling back down.Eleven new guys with the lost of only four that we know of makes for a big roster.
They both need to raise their level of play this season. At this point, it's even hard to see them being ready to play for the Lakers next season.Wil Gauthier has made the roster for the Brookings Blizzard (NAHL). Not sure yet of the status of Chase Gamlin, as he is trying out for that team also. Still plenty of roster spots available, so still a chance he could make the team.

Yes, hopefully they do show some good development this season because I doubt that the Laker coaches are projecting them to be on the 2016-17 team based upon what they have shown so far. My guess is they are projected for 2017-18.Last season was a total waste. The Soo Eagles were ran horribly, knowing they would be moving (and wanting to move). Neither got much of a chance to play, and even the games they were in they saw very little ice time. Hopefully they'll get a fair chance at some ice and have a solid season to properly develop. If Gamelin doesn't make the Brookings team, that would really hurt his chances of ever playing D-1.
I think it's no secret Damon will be cutting some players from last year's team.
Edit: According to a post back in May, poster Dougie G said that Nardi, Clemment, Harris, Megariotis and Miller would be cut. We'll see if that's true or not when the roster comes out which should be anytime now. I could also see Luke Sandler being cut if he had any discipline issues over the off-season.
. Confirmed. They were all kicked to the curb. All sophomores!I think it's no secret Damon will be cutting some players from last year's team.

Yes, unfortunate as it is, it's become increasingly common for players to be cut within the first year or so following a coaching change. Although we haven't seen anything official yet, it appears the timing of these Lakers cuts is probably best from the players point of view if they want to move on and play elsewhere. Better to cut underclassmen rather than upperclassmen. I don't recall InterestedLakerFan making any similar "harsh" comments when Jim Roque got rid of players, and he even did it during the middle to late stages of his Laker coaching stint. To be fair, saying they were 'kicked to the curb' is a little harsh. This program has a new coach, and is going through an overhaul, simple as that. I have no doubt that the players that were cut are good kids and even good players. It could simply be that their style of play doesn't fit well with Whitten's system that he is trying to implement. This is pretty much standard no matter what sport or school, and it is unfortunate that certain players were cut, but that's the nature of the beast. Last season was pretty much seeing who could progress within his system, and who couldn't. To his credit, Whitten cut them after last season so they time to make other arrangements or find another school to play at. I wish them all the best.
I don't think we know for sure yet how many guys won't be back. The number 5 has been mentioned, but that's not official. It could be that the roster will be a couple of guys larger than last season. We should know soon.If 11 are coming and four left, seven guys are a lot to ax at one time.

Who said players being cut necessarily will move on to play Div 1 elsewhere? They might wind up going down to Div 3 if they want to keep playing. Or they can go to another Div 1 school and sit out a year. Anyone being cut who wants to keep playing college hockey has undoubtedly made arrangements to start school elsewhere this season, whether it be Div 1, Div 3 or CIS. Who said anything about Ravn being cut?Ncaa rules for DI programs requires the cut players to sit for one year. 5 were cut so arrangements to play D1 this season won't happen. So many posts about Ravn in the past... He may not have played but jr did not cut him. You are correct changes do happen with coaching changes. Whitten has a great system im sure he knows what he is doing.

I think the players cut were told so after the completion of last season, likely during their one on one post-season meetings with Whitten. I don't know when those meetings occurred, but it probably was around April, maybe a little earlier or maybe a little later. When were the players cut? You're seeing the effects now, but UAH's cuts in '14 were in April (and you could see it all over social media).
