LSSU Laker Hockey

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

That's awesome. I bet all thirteen fans at the game enjoyed it.

What league is that again?

Over 4,000 fans more than you get at your little school's playoff games coach, I mean Neil Diamond.

Tee time at 3pm today? Make sure you use the orange balls as I imagine there is a lot of snow still up there. But since you and your buddies have been on the course for a while, you already know that.

Your credibility is shot because you are so in the bag Neil. It is actually quite funny, if it wasn't so sad.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I disagree. There are certainly other issues with Laker hockey than Jim Roque, funding being the big one, but I don't recall anyone on here saying Roque should keep his job. If you or anyone else can point out such a post, please do so. Don't fall into the TS paradigm. Just because someone isn't constantly criticizing Roque on this Forum doesn't mean that person is a Roque supporter.

My point is - did JR have a bad enough year to warrant a coaching change? I don't think so. Could the year have been better? Yes. If a couple of those ties were wins, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I was open to the idea of a coaching change but I think enough was done.

There you are.

Wow. One person that thinks Jim should keep his job. If you read through the thread you will see that post is clearly in the minority and that most of us (from what I have seen everyone but that person) thinks Roque should be gone. But as Bill noted...just because we dont call him names or say demeaning things does not mean we support him as a coach.

I plead guilty to not remembering that specific post in my earlier comments, but I'd hardly call Meridian Street's post a ringing endorsement or defense of Jim Roque. He/she basically was open to the idea of a coaching change, but felt that the Lakers performance at Notre Dame was enough to justify giving Roque another year. He/she also appears to know some inside info to be able to state that Roque won't get fired at this time.

He asked for "such a post." I'd say that quote qualifies as such. I'm not denying that posts like the one by Meridian are in the minority. I was simply showing that the opinion is out there because Bill was convinced there weren't any supporters.

Bill is convinced he is the smartest person on here, and any sort of negative comment or even the appearance of one against his good buddy Jim Roque, and he makes the Jim Jones followers seem like rebels against their leader.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Somehow I do not believe that Roque could survive any more 20 loss seasons and crowds in the 1000's no matter how politically connected he may be because the Laker program itself will not survive.
Believe me, the Lakers have a ZERO buzz factor in the Soo and the school will be massively impacted in a very very negative way if Gov Snyder's budget passes as is. Fan apathy (and I would like to emphatically say well deserved fan apathy as this program has given us very little to cheer about the dozen years or so), the creation of the Big 10 and probable demise of the CCHA could very well spell the end.

The Lakers must show continued improvement. Roque must prove and must prove it this coming season once and for all that he has the wherewithal to mold a competitive team that will challenge for a CCHA final four berth and potential NCAA appearance. There is no tomorrow! The 2011-12 season will be the tell all. If Roque fails and the program flounders to another 8-11th place finish and an early playoff exit while still holding 3 years remaining on a 4 year contract then I can assure you that it will be GAME OVER! No Norris Center Renos, no amount of cheerleading and no pleading will bring back fans.

Right now the Eagles have more of a buzz factor than the Lakers (not hard to do of course). You will see a mass exodus of the few remaining core Laker fans to the Eagles organization....I know because I am one of them and know several dozen of them....we are tired of what is going on.....we DEMAND results this coming season!!!!

End of story.

Better demand the results from the next few seasons because Jim Roque is going no where. The money comes in from unnamed donors, the coach stays, end of story and you can write, email, stop going to games it truly will not matter.

Ref up those engines Laker fans. Year seven of the Roque 500 begins in September. Vroom vroom.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I was reading the eupnews article about Pierce commiting to play for Northern and Russon made a comment after the article that he had to wonder where the Laker recruiters are adding a little dig about Sjhl as well. I can remember JR saying something along the lines that under ncaa rules they can only spend so much time around a team they are recruiting and i wonder how much time do they need when kids are right in the same town.

With so many kids from the Soo lately going to Northern to play it made me wonder if a kid from Marquette has come to play for the Lakers sinse Northern has started playing D-1 hockey.

Supposedly the Lakers have been looking at some kids in the NOJHL. Whether Pierce was one of them, I don't know. Whether Pierce was interested in playing for the Lakers, or whether he preferred getting out of town and playing elsewhere, I also don't know. The NOJHL is generally considered a weak Junior A league. Not many kids out of the NOJHL get scholarships to Div 1 schools. Perlini got one (to MSU) a few years ago. The Lakers got Rainville and Birkeland from the NOJHL. Still, it makes sense to keep an eye out for NOJHL players who have the talent to play Div 1 despite the overall league weakness.

Jim Roque's recruiting strategy has been very successful the last six years hey Bill? We have missed your totally objective anaysis of Laker hockey and its status. You are the ultimate spin master. Even Crawford is saying, boy is this Bill guy biased.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Just talked to Denver Pierce yesterday, one of the better Soo-born players in years, and he has made a verbal commitment to Northern.

Another local boy gone.

Did he say if the Laker coaches had shown any interest in Pierce? They seem reluctant to go after the younger kids that are 2-3 years away from actually playing at the college level, but that's when most of the better players are making their verbal commitments.

He seemed to have an aversion to Lake State for a while, not sure why. Maybe it's because they didn't pay too much attention to him, while Walt Kyle began calling his father two years ago.

He's only a sophomore in high school; but welcome to the new reality of college commitments.
