Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Nice win last night BGSU plays a lot tougher then their record would indicate.

It's nice to see the dynamic duo of Acton and Schofield clicking.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Good job lakers on a 4-2 victory friday night! Sounded like Rick Schofield hurt his shoulder in 2nd period, then came back and played 3rd period but did not take any faceoffs. We can not afford to loose him.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Great game last night guys! Let's keep it up.

Food for thought; I was just reading about the CCHA’s last actions with Coach Roque http://www.uscho.com/2011/01/28/lssus-roque-in-more-hot-water-with-ccha/. This morning I watched ‘Wingspan’ on Fox Detroit which talked about how hockey players, in particular the Redwings, were a positive role model for kids in the Detroit area. I believe this is true in the Soo and with hockey in general, which is why I am a hockey fan. What sport has a player interviewed during the game? I am not aware of any Charles Barkley’s in hockey.

I was at that game and have attended quite a few of the Laker games this year and for the past several years and think the CCHA’s officiating is terrible and should not be tolerated by a big time hockey conference. The CCHA does owe it to everyone by looking into the allegations; however that does not make Roque's actions in this case acceptable. The Lakers have good reason to complain about the officiating in their games; however one has to wonder if there is a target on their backs because of their coach’s actions? This occurs in every sport; with officials taking a more critical look at different plays.

For these reasons I feel LSSU has been put into a position where they must ask for his resignation at seasons end or terminate his contract at seasons end or not renew his contract. He is the primary representative of LSSU when he coaches his team and actions like this one should not be a part of Laker hockey. As I said; I too was at that game and was frustrated at the inept officiating. However, Coach Roque must follow the procedure set forth by the conference to complain about the officiating. Some will say he was just standing up for his team; I understand standing up for your team. I argued when I coached also; but I never went on the field or court after an official and accused them of something. I personally have written the CCHA about their officiating and will continue to. That is the only way fans can put the pressure on the conference to police their officials. There is a line you have to be careful not to cross and Coach Roque did that Saturday night. What recruit is going to show interest in LSSU? What recruit’s parents would encourage him to play for the Lakers? What parent wants to send their son or daughter to a hockey camp sponsored by LSSU with a head coach who acts this way? I would like to think LSSU is a class university and would want a coach which will represent the university in best manner.

GO LAKERS!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Is there any word to the extent of Rick's injury?
If he's able to keep playing, I wouldn't expect to hear much detail about it. Teams don't generally like to make known the nature and extent of a players injury as long as he is still able to play; they don't want to give their opponents too much info that can be exploited. If he underwent further evaluation after last night's game and a decision is made to sit him until he's healthy enough to play again, then we might hear more about the extent of the injury.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

BG has a hard time covering the point men, I'm calling a big weekend for Trotman..Lakers 3-1, 2-0

1/2 way thru the series and with 2 points on the weekend thus far, Trotman looks like he's trying his ****dest to make me a prophet lol hopefully the Lakers can follow through with the sweep tonight and that Rick is okay!

The above incident which happened two years ago did not seem to affect Denver's recruiting. They still made it to the tournament last year, and have a good chance of making it again this year.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Jim did after the MSU game. The penalty minutes were 15-2 during that game. There were plenty of calls that could have gone against MSU, but they were not called. Jim had every right to react the way that he did.

Until the CCHA gets rid of Tom Anastos nothing will change with officiating. He completely ruined the league that was a powerhouse of the NCAA. Tom Anastos is the one with the idea to try to enforce icing through the entire game even when a team is shorthanded. He is the same person who decided to have the frozen four at Ford Field, which was an absolute joke.

The CCHA has only won one national title with Anastos as the commissioner in 12 years. That was thanks to Jeff Lerg standing on his head for four games when the Spartans won in 2007. In the 15 years before Anastos took over, the CCHA won 7 national titles.

And Tom Anastos brought us the shootout also.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

If I was a recruit, I would love to play for a coach that sticks up for his players the way Roque did after the MSU game. I thought it was great. Sure, a coach has to keep his composure, be a role model, and all that. But, occassionally you have to take a stand. Perhaps it will put a little more scrutiny on the officiating. The fact that he waited until after the game to throw his tirade saved his team any additional penalty minutes. If people are going to call Roque out for being too passive, you can't also call him out for showing fire and passion. All true Laker fans would like to see a better record at this point, but I had no problem with what took place last Saturday night.

Yeah, that was another bad desicion he has made.

So far this year the Lakers have had 3 opportunities to complete a weekend sweep. They got the job done against Colgate and Ferris. They lost at Western in December in their only other opportunity. Hopefully the Lakers can get the job done tonight.

I am guilty for calling Roque too passive and not showing any emotion so i sure am not going to pile on him for showing the fire he did that night. I agree he went after them for some sort of explination and they just blew him off. And that was only after he asked for one of them to come over to the bench for some explination of the one sided weekend of calls. Friday night Acton tried to get around krug to get in on a two on one he gets hauled down and gets a holding penalty along with krug receiving a interferance penalty, how could you even interpet that as a hold when he was drug down?????? The refs in the ccha are just plain awful.

The ccha comes out with a public reprimand for Roque but what about the incompitent stooges that all but showed professional integrity. They not only say nothing about them but all four are allowed to work the following weekend. I see that the information has been forwarded to the prosecutor and i hope that they take it seriouse. The ccha as a governing body is just awful, i tell you all they are concerned with is keeping the money coming in for them.

Could not agree more, first of all Anastos is a complete moron when it comes to the daily workings of his job, the fact that the majority of the league gave their blessing for Alabama Huntsville to join the league and Anastos still put a stop to it says it all...how can a man who is supposedly committed to doing whats best for college hockey stamp out the opportunity to grow the game in an untapped region, ESPECIALLY after the majority of his league wanted to do it??? Pardon my language but are you ******** serious? what a clown...the discrepancies in the number of titles before and after Anastos really tells the story....secondly, anybody who criticizes Roque for what he did is either misinformed as to the situation or is off of their rocker...the officiating that game (that whole weekend really) was an absolute embarassment to the game of hockey and the CCHA should be ashamed, as far as somebody not wanting to play for a guy who does that, that notion is again entirely stupid...ive had the opportunity to be in the company of over a dozen D1 players from ECAC, CCHA, WCHA and Hockey East at different times over the last 4 years and I can tell you without a doubt that ALL of those players are more apt to gravitate towards a program with a coach who is going to stick up for his guys after getting proverbially sucker punched by officials the way the Lakers were a few weeks ago!!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

If you watch the WCHA you would notice that they allow good clean hard checks but the same kind of checks in the ccha is called charging, contact to the head or what ever sort of call they can think of. After further video replay the contact to the head penalty that McParland received was all shoulder to the chest as Crawford mentioned on the radio show. Sometimes i think they use the Taffy for a test labritory for off the wall calls like snowing the goal tender among other stupid calls that i thankfully can not remember.

I remember listening to one of the coaches show last year, and I believe after the Notre Dame series.

On Friday night a Notre Dame player had taken a cheap shot at one of the LSSU players. Jim followed the league rules and tried to get the league office to review the play that Saturday for disciplinary actions.

Anastos did not review the play on that Saturday before the game because he was at his son's hockey game. He reviewed the play on the following Monday and suspended the Notre Dame player for a game which did no good for the Lakers at that point. If you are the commissioner of the CCHA your first duty every weekend should be taking care of league business, not attending your son's game. I would have understood if it was a family emergency or something, but not the excuse he gave.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Northern lost again to Western 6-1 again tonight. The Lakers trail NMU by 4 points going into next weekend.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

The Lakers had their chances tonight they just did not execute.

They failed on a 2-1 and a 3-1 in the first three minutes of the third period. There was also a 5x3 for 1:55 in the middle of the 2nd period that LSSU could not convert on. Frustrating 1-6 night for the power play after they had scored 5 power play goals in the last 2 games.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

The CCHA announced Thursday that Lake Superior State head coach Jim Roque has been issued a fine and been publicly reprimanded for a violation of the league’s Good Conduct Policy.

“The CCHA has a number of post-game protocols for a coach to properly express their concerns over issues that may have occurred during the course of a game,” CCHA commissioner Tom Anastos said in a statement. “There is no excuse or acceptable explanation for public comments that challenge the integrity of the league’s on-ice officials or administrative processes.”

The action was taken by the league after a review of public comments attributed to the coach, reportedly in the Soo Evening News when Roque spoke out on the officials after a Jan. 15 game against Michigan State.

According to the article, Roque said linesman Mike Poliski threatened him when they were on the ice.

“I had to call the police and file a complaint against him,” Roque told the newspaper. “All I wanted to do is ask how they were giving me seven minutes of penalties in the last ten minutes … they (officials) wouldn’t talk to me. They wouldn’t even come over for the shootout. I think that’s uncalled for. I got fined $1,000 five years ago for saying something bad about the refs in the paper. The guy can threaten my life and nothing happens to him? I just think that’s wrong.”

I was surprised to hear about this because this is just more people against this team and this coach. A very good weekend against a very good Bowling Green team and I hope that we can win the final 8 games to move into the top 4. This team gets better and better and need to quit being snake and work hard and the refs against us and not the commish.

Michigan State sure wants Jim Roque with his proven track record, player development and personal conduct.

This man is embarrassing the University with his antics and it looks like what goes around is going to come around. You people up there need to quit covering up for your friend. Perky/dopey/bill are all the same person and are along with the cover up for this coach who continues to lose and who continues to use less than professional tactics when things don't go his way. But you people will cover it up or just brush it aside like the former athletic director turned cheerleader and all the blind devotees on here that want to blame others and everything else, when they all know where the blame is.

How many people have stood up on this forum and said that they want roque to stick around? Not many, if any but the bottom line is that the CCHA was out of line with this fine/suspension, no one is saying its the league's fault or the official's fault that the Lakers aren't where they have a chance to be this year...what everyone IS saying is that it was a case of horrible officiating and that Roque was right for calling an ace an ace, the "less than professional antics" moniker belongs to the subpar officials..maybe if you had actually been at the game you would know what the hell you are talking about instead of just speculating on a topic of which you are so bewilderingly lost as to the real info
