Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Correct me if I am wrong but.... who's to say, if they did go out and get 5 or 6 points this weekend that they wouldn't end up as the 5th seed and then be on the road after a bye week? My understanding is that depending on what WM and FS do, the 4th and 5th seeds are still up for grabs for LSSU. Only the 1, 2 and 3 seeds are out of reach as of now.

It's possible but were 6 points out of 4th, 3 points out of 5th and in a 3 way tie for 6th...granted one of the 3 tied teams (Alaska) only has 1 series left while every other team in play has 2 series left, but i'm just looking at the odds, and its a much more likely scenario that the Lakers would end up in 6th 7th or 8th than 4th or 5th

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

The CCHA determines the schedule and allows for very little input from member schools. The schedule is set over a year in advance. Changing dates is very difficult as both schools have to agree on those changes. As to the I-500, it has not brought in more fans for home games in the past and has actually hurt the gate. It has nothing to do with drunk fans.

I was not aware of this, that certainly makes a lot of sense then, thanks for the info!

Yah, at this point I'm more concerned that they get enough points to finish no lower than 8th place, and thus home ice for round one, than I am with them getting enough points to finish 4th or 5th. If they do finish 4th or 5th that would be great, but I'd settle for 6th through 8th based upon where they are now and how few games are left. Both remaining series are going to be tough; OSU on the road and Miami at home.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

My guess..4th WMU + NMU 44pts...6th Ferris 41pts...7th OSU 40pts...8th AK 38pts...9th LSSU 35pts..10th MSU 34pts...1th BGSU 14pts

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

The past few years, the Lakers have had more success at OSU than at other CCHA arenas. Let's sure hope the trend continues into this weekend.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I am not sure who is in charge of or how much influence the Lakers have when it comes to setting up their schedule but the ball has really been dropped on two occasions this year, the first being the Lakers having an away series during I 500 weekend which has been the case as well in past years...that is one of the biggest tourist weekends of the year in the Soo and my guess is that ticket sales would certainly take a large jump for that weekend...

Actually, the opposite is true. Both the Lakers and Blue Devils high school hockey team have played on I-500 weekend, and both have no desire to host a home series on that particular weekend again. The Lakers played to some of their smallest crowds ever in the past when they went head-to-head with the I-500.

To get a bye the Lakers would need to win 3 out of 4 which will be really tough.

Western plays at Michigan this weekend, and then a home and home with Notre Dame. I only see Western getting 1 or 2 more points this year.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

The #5 seed seems like a bad place to end up. You get a first round bye, but then you have to travel in round two. You don't get to host a series.

While that's truth, the road to the final 4 is much easier as a 5 seed than a 6 or 7 seed. I'd much rather have to travel through Ferris or Western than ND, Michigan or Miami.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Lakers have to sweep Ohio State and the seed issue doesn't mean anything at this point. Only thing that counts right now is winning .

So you pick a Lake State team that has earned points in 8 of its last 9 games not to earn a singe point for the rest of the year, and an Ohio State team that is 1-6 in its last 7 games to finish 3-1?

Could happen I guess, but even some really bad LSSU teams of the last ten years, that couldn't win anywhere else on the road, always seemed to be able to take some points at tOSU.

I've been pretty silent this year, because I haven't seen any games. Hopefully the guys can put something together down the stretch this year.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

It doesn't matter where they finish because the people on here have blind love and devotion for this administration that is not surprising knowing some of the people up there and where they are strategically located.

If things are going good, like moving up to 8th place in a 11 team league it is the best news and anyone that mentions anything against their buddy and this team, the truth, is ridiculed and singled out.

If things are going bad, like the last few years, or his league reprimand when he filed a "police report" on a official it doesn't matter one bit. It is someone else to blame and the tough questions aren't asked or just ignored by all his buddies up there who pack this forum and the Minister of Information cheerleader on the mic.

Talk to you all in early March when you are figuring out new ways to give your hero praise and unending devotion despite lower division finishes, 1st round playoff exits and more empty seats at the Norris Center. Remember the glory days?

The Truth Is Out There....

-You can't stand Bill Crawford, you think he is too optimistic on the mic, we get it.

-You think Jim Roque is a poor coach who deserves to get fired and you're upset that people say anything remotely positive about him, we get it.

-You think that no matter what the Lakers do, that the light at the end of the tunnel is nothing more than an oncoming train, we get it.

- You feel the need to use average (at best) sarcasm and humor to poke fun at those who actually want to see the Lakers do well, we get it.

Would it kill you to say something new once in a while instead of recycling the same worn out bit?? So some people do have "blind love and devotion" to LSSU, so what? Isn't that what being a fan is all about??? The Lakers may very well finish 8th, but they currently are in position to finish much higher than that with a few good weekends coming up and that is exciting to some laker fans..

Even if they were to finish 8th that would mean 1. they finished higher than they did last season and 2. they would be hosting a first round playoff series for the first time in a long time, so those ARE things to be (somewhat) excited about....This is not to say that Laker fans would be satisfied and wouldn't want better results (especially if they were to bow out in the first round), and it's not to say that most would still want Roque to keep his job but the fact of the matter is that it IS improvement, and encouraging since the roster is freshmen and sophomore in majority...Lakers fans will undoubtedly not be truly satisfied until the Lakers are back contending for CCHA titles and NCAA appearances, but speaking on behalf of myself I will stand by the team and the school until those heights are reached again (no matter how far off in the future that may be)...I will be disgruntled if they take steps backwards but I will also be there to applaud signs of progress, no matter how small they may seem to some...In the words of Confucius: " A trip of a thousand miles begins with a single step"

When hosting a playoff series, the home team has to pay the league 10,000 per game. The home team might also have to pay for the visiting teams expenses, but I am not positive on that.

I can remember Bill Crawford mentioning that a year or two ago on the radio. He said all together it could cost the host school upwards of 50,000 if it goes to all three games.

As much as i would like to see a playoff series at home (money aside) i really hope the Lakers finish 5th, get a 1st round bye, and have a chance to take a 2nd round series to get to the Joe.

First things first though and that is Ohio State this weekend. Go LAKERS!!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

This OJHL link indicates that Steve Perfetto (Kingston) has verbally committed to the Lakers for next season:

A little more info about Perfetto:

He is one of the kids that committed verbally while the Lakers were on their Canadian exhibition tour over the holidays.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

So the league that most of our regular posters bang on, OJHL, have commitments to the following:

Michigan 3
Clarkson 3
BU 2
Bowling Green 2
RPI 3
LSSU 3

You guys are right, bad place to recruit.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey
