Last I heard a week ago was that the Norris was a go and it was sent out for bid to several construction companies. I believe the website is down because the original plans have changed so much that they needed to update it (that's my best guess). One of my blueliner friends said that Roque told them last night he moved summer camps around so that no one would be in the building the entire month of July. Unless they are lying to all of us (including Roque), sounds like it is coming this summer.
In all honesty, I'm not really looking forward to next season and my interest in Laker hockey is waning. The new league just doesn't excite me and I cannot get over the down feeling of never seeing the Michigans and other elite programs playing in our town. Many other fans that I know feel the same way and I'll tell you what, if the Lakers do flop next year and Roque is still the coach....the program will crash.
I think the new leagues are going to add so much cost to travel that the new leagues will be fighting just to break even. The reason MI and MI State left the WCHA back in the late 70s was travel cost and now they are back to those same places for league play . I think in a year or two,the teams will be sorry they broke up the CCHA and WCHA and formed that new league NCHC .
You are right on. There are teams that will incur 6 figure increases in their travel, most notably Western and Miami. There was a lot of chatter in Detroit that it may not have been the last hurrah for the CCHA after all.
Omaha, St. Cloud & Duluth are all 600 miles from Kalamazoo, or approximately 10 hours. I would think Western would fly to these 3 schools. North Dakota, Colorado College, and Denver would also be by plane.
In the CCHA they only had to fly to Alaska.

The Big Ten will have to add two teams to make scheduling easier -- "associate" members for hockey purposes. My first blush guess would be North Dakota and Duluth (North Dakota brings huge money, fans, and prestige -- and Duluth also brings a great program, stadium, and it's already a sort-of Big Ten affiliated school). Then the WCHA will recombine into an East and West Conference (to save travel money). Just my opinion.
Several things had to happen, regardless of the eventual outcomes: The CCHA had to die. The Big Ten had to have its moment (not that I agree, but it was a rumbling irritant for years). Mid-Range money-schools had to see how fa they wanted to push hockey -- I'm looking at the recent interest in spending money on hockey at Western as an example.

I wouldn't expect the Big 10 to add non Big 10 schools for hockey only. When you'll have Ohio State flying to Rutgers and Maryland for women's softball, I don't thing these schools will be too concerned with a flight from Columbus to the Twin Cities for ice hockey.
Beautifully written!Probably. Just speculation. Personally I hope all the Big Ten schools fail, at everything, in every sport, every year, in every way. My dislike fo the Big Ten, and the overblown butt-headedness that is always attached to the Big Ten, is second only to my overall dislike for the CCHA leadership of the past 15 years.
My speculation is that a six-team league is a nightmare for scheduling, and it will get worse when they are farming in Colgate and Mercyhurst for home series -- while sticking to their arrogant Big Ten belief that they don't have to agree to any return trips. I hope this bites them, I hope that they all fail misrably. However, I think that in two years, they will have to bring in some associate members to pad out their schedule.

Nope. They will agree to a return trip to the Soo -- which will be played at Joe Louis. LSSU will be called the "home team" and slit the gate accordingly.

Both Borek and Roque have not been successful at Lake State after being promoted from assistant.
