LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

And every year around this time you and the rest of the Roque apologists utter the same excuses, same vitriol, and a few of you people up there, even clever enough to come up with new excuses for this coach. Year 8 off season is we can't afford anyone else and there are no other options. Next year it will be, we still can't afford anyone else, give us another year to adjust to this new conference, and he better win in year 10 or else, followed by he better win in year 11 or else.
Looks like the "unnamed donor" has gone into hiding. Baaaaaaa!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Stick with Jim Roque as coach is the only solution. Year 9 is the year Lake Superior finishes in the top half of the standings and Norris Center playoff crowds will be over 1500. Add that the Norris Center project and renovations and its the beginning of a dynasty. If not next year, than the next one.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I read that the home games against Robert Morris will be October 11-12. Great Lake State weekend will be November 8-9.

So the Non-conference schedule should be

Oct. 11-12- Robert Morris
Oct. 18-19 or Oct. 25-26 @ Union
Nov. 1-2 @ Wisconsin
Jan. 17-18 @ Notre Dame (unconfirmed)

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Any word on the Norris Center Project? The lack of news is really concerning me. I would of thought we would of heard news shortly after the season ended.

On one of the Laker Hockey shows back in February, Rouqe admitted to not knowing the status of the project and if it would ever get done, he and Crawford instead focused on the "back to the attack" contribution/fundraising efforts. Right now, in the middle of April, nothing is going on at the Norris Center. This is a far cry from the 95 renovation where they immediately went to work tearing down the south wall of the arena right after the last home game in early March.

Sadly, I don't think this project will come to fruition.

Nobody said LSSU could not afford a new coach. All I know for sure is that the Athletics Department has gotten away with under-paying the current coach (at least in relation to his peers). There is no indication that the Athletics Department could not pay more. I think its short-sighted to assume, and presume, that the "Hockey Coach Salary" is capped at the current level of pay being offered to Jim Roque.

My (sarcastic) response was directed at RapidsCity who believes that nothing can be done because of lack of funds. Roque is (unfortunately) going to be back next season and we as fans have to deal with it and hope (most likely in vein) that he can get the most out of his players and finish with a respectable record in the nWCHA. If not then Roque must be let go and if not, we as fans must become very vocal with our displeasure and force the AD's hand. Lack of money must never be an excuse in not moving forward.

In all honesty, I'm not really looking forward to next season and my interest in Laker hockey is waning. The new league just doesn't excite me and I cannot get over the down feeling of never seeing the Michigans and other elite programs playing in our town. Many other fans that I know feel the same way and I'll tell you what, if the Lakers do flop next year and Roque is still the coach....the program will crash.

I don't look at it as can't be done. But it certainly is very difficult. In the past 10 years, the CCHA schools that fund their programs well have combined for 32 appearances in the NCAA. Among Ferris, NMU, UAF, LSSU, Bowling Green, and Western up to 2009, they COMBINED for just 3. That's one each for NMU, UAF and Ferris. If you cannot afford to get out and scout and recruit and maximize your 18 scholarships, your chances are slim. Now with the new WCHA, LSSU and NMU will still be among the bottom few in funding, but the gap will be much smaller.

Because all of the schools are public, are the exact funding levels public knowledge?

This must have been said sarcastically. Although I have never heard of a University project taking 6 years to begin construction, Mr. 3dognight said in November that the project will 100% be done in time for the start of next season. To me 100% is as certain as you can get. It has been confirmed by people on campus such as Mr./Mrs. Lakers2Glory that the donors are tied to Coach Roque. For this reason alone I have supported keeping Coach Roque on as our coach. It has also been suggested that the reason by several people that the delay in this project by the private donors was to get Coach Roque a long term contract. Mr./Mrs Laker2Glory has confirmed that Coach Roque was given more than the single year contract that he had previously been working on and has at least 2 years left which means he was given at least a three year deal a year ago. The University did their part by locking in Coach Roque. It is time for major construction to begin. I received my annual Laker Log edition last week and LSSU President McLean made special comment to the excitement over the beginning of the Norris Center Renovation so indications are it’s a go. I have stated many times that $5,000,000 trumps poor coaching. I can honestly say that I will not attend a single Laker game until either the renovation is complete or Coach Roque is let go. It’s hard for me to believe that Coach Roque and Mr. Crawford would even joke about this matter.

Because all of the schools are public, are the exact funding levels public knowledge?

would love to see that list.
athletic revenues and expenses are public knowledge for the MAC.

and no, there is no automatic correlation between spending and winning. but the cash helps.
both Miami and Western spend a lot more than BG does on athletics, and we must admit that their hockey teams have shown it lately (choking when it counts aside...).

2012 Athletic Expenses (millions):
Miami: 27.8
Western: 24.6
BGSU: 17.3

If you go to the Norris Center Project website, you get "Site Currently Under Administrative Maintenance" which has been that way for months. Not a good sign. Someone needs to ask Roque and/or Dunbar and find out what is going on!

I wonder if donations to the back to the attack fund are actually being matched.

It would help if Mr. 3DogNight would come on here and clear this up before this gets out of hand. This would not even be funny on April Fools day. If this is true, at worst move Coach Roque into Athletic Fund Raising so he can bring in money to offset the hiring of a proper hockey coach. Please tell me I'm over reacting!!!!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Where did you go 3DogNight?? Why so quiet these days. It would seem the 3 stood for the numbers of years you wanted your buddy locked in as coach up there. Its appears that has already happened, if not longer. So what gives on the money you promised for the new paint job on the seats in the Norris Center and a couple of gondolas that will save the program and bring them to new heights...maybe even sixth place? Please give those people up there that brought a brick or two some hope. You people are the eternal optimists so a little 3DogNight cheer would be appreciated. Baaaaaaaa!!!

Not funny at this point Mr. Truth Squad. Instead of crowing, please let this play out with some answers. I would prefer people respond to the questions and not focus on you. Deal?

Email AD Dunbar and ask her for a update.

Last I heard a week ago was that the Norris was a go and it was sent out for bid to several construction companies. I believe the website is down because the original plans have changed so much that they needed to update it (that's my best guess). One of my blueliner friends said that Roque told them last night he moved summer camps around so that no one would be in the building the entire month of July. Unless they are lying to all of us (including Roque), sounds like it is coming this summer.
