Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2
That's pretty much it. Overall the talent level is improving, but every year we're still fighting for home ice in the 1st round of the league playoffs when the regular season winds down. With the exception of the one season where Jakaitis was hot in the CCHA playoffs, no trips to the Joe. At best, seasons where we barely get above .500, and we're not even reaching that mark within the CCHA. One has to wonder at what level the bar has been set and where failure to reach the bar requires that changes need to be made.
I wonder. It feels like the talent is better. The games are more enjoyable to watch. There are some legitimately high(er) end players in uniform. The program is stable, the funding is solidified, LSSU Hockey (and LSSU in general) survived 2009-2010's budget issues. There is certainly more to talk about regarding lines, players, incoming recruits, game plans, etc . . .
So everything on paper looks to be trending upward.
And yet, here we are . . . in exactly the same position as last year, and year before . . .
Again, I want to remain positive. I literally have no personal ax to grind other than wanting LSSU to win lots of National Championships.
Sometimes the coach who stabilizes the program isn't quite the man to lead a program to the promised land? I truly believe perhaps a question of where the bar is being set for the program. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.
Oh, I know all the standard conversational points about "who would come here for the low pay" etc . . . I'm merely saying that we seem to be at the same level, every year. And is it possible that the current leadership simply cannot take th program further?
We will see. This team is certainly good enough to beat BGSU. But they are not a good road team . . . hopefully that also changes and . . . . well . . . I hope we catch some serious fire and storm the Joe one last time. Wouldn't that be great? One last massive Blue caravan flooding down I-75?
