Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Nice to see them pick up a local kid. Let's hope he pans out when he starts playing for the Lakers in two years. He sounds pretty good at this stage of his hockey career.

The Lakers haven't been known to go out and lock up kids this young. They must really want him, and there is no doubt having a local kid on the team in a few years will create some buzz! Looking forward to seeing him progress!

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Lakersparty.........Doug Weight's accomplishments are even more impressive when you consider that before he played for the Lakers he was with Tim Opie's Lakeland Jets of the old NAHL, the same team that ad Tim Thomas as goalie!!!

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Lake Superior State forward Dan Radke and LSSU defenseman Zach Sternberg just won the gold medal game at the Maccabiah Games (AKA The Jewish Olympics) as team Canada defeated the USA 7-1.

Saw this pic in my old files, too. Forgot about the "Where the Hell is Lake Inferior?" sign that St. Lawrence fans had at the 1988 Championship.

Francis Anzalone has been named associate head coach and director of player personnel for the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL. Congratulations to Francis.

Really glad for him....I always thought he pursue a career in sports broadcasting but I guess I'm not too surprised. Looks like he can be an up and comer in the coaching ranks...who knows we may see him at a college near us.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Future LSSU coach in the works.

He comes from good stock in Frank Anzalone. Hall of Fame Coach, NCAA Coach of the Year, NCAA Championship winning coach, Lead NHL Scout, the list is endless. Good luck to Francis in his new venture we are all very proud of you.

Lead NHL scout? No, he's the Flames NCAA scout. He's no different than Robbie Sumner or Jim Cummins in the Flames scouting hierarchy. Oh yeah, he hasn't won anything in 20 years....the Truth is right there...

Frank Anzalone is a straight-forward, honest, tell-it-like-it-is individual who has been a winning coach at the junior, college and minor pro ranks. His son Francis will do a great job and is a great hockey mind like his father. I am so proud!!!

No doubt about it. Anzalone was one of the best in the business in his day. His first term was definitely Hall of Fame worthy. His second term didn't end because of politics. It ended because he only won 8,6,9 & 9. He is the only coach in LSSU history to have a season with fewer than 10 wins and he had four of them in a row. Politics and his demeanor likely would have had little impact had he won in term two.

Jim Roque has Lake Superior on the right track. Year 9 will be the best one yet!!

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Let us be honest at least with Frank Anzalone . Frank was most likely Frank's worse enemy in regards to his staying as a coach. As for his second term producing very little wins. Frank took over a division 3 team trying to play division 1 hockey . If I remember right ,9 players quit when Frank came in forcing a whole new recruting effort that summer before the season.

I had a Bowling Green player tell me Frank was taking over a team with very little talent and about as conditioned as a man smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day. Had Frank had the personality that matched his coaching abilities, the Lakers today would be in the new NCHC and not the new WCHA as the NCHC went after the best teams to form their new league. The part that sucks, Frank's own being Frank cost the Lakers a second round of being a national power.

That always seems to be the statement that comes up with Frank Anzalone: Frank being Frank is what led to his demise.

Does anyone really question that Frank Anzalone WAS a great coach? He clearly has the stats to show he was one of the best back in his prime. The problem is, as the years progressed, he became a bigger *** (or Frank being Frank as people put it), so much that his idiotic off-ice actions and poor conduct usurped his coaching abilities. I would agree, if he didn't burn his bridges, LSSU would have had a second stint as a national power and Jim Roque would probably still be at Clarkston or elsewhere.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Okay more food for the peasants of laker country, which I just found while cleaning out a file...again this was forward to whilst I was given permission to be on the hill. Actuals spending for 2007/2008 CCHA. Adjusts as you see fit

School Operating $ Staff $
UAF $1,021,000 $282,000
UM $857,500 $822,500
MSU $489,100 $625,700
OSU $457,000 $482,000
UNO $450,400 $396,600 - still in the league in 2007
ND $331,000 $621,500 - wow
MU $430,160 $388,200
NMU $331,000 $280,800
FSU $285,000 $190,500
WMU $268,150 $355,800
BGSU $250,000 $291,300
LSSU $232,000 $165,000

Based on 2007 # operational$ if they had added $50k we move out of the bottom. For those that think we will every get a top coach to come to LSSU, based on 2007 numbers this is a pipe dream...For all posting on this thread, would you and your staff work like our coaches and staff do for $165k.... just asking
