LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Summerhays home versus Western Michigan:
Record: 1-1
Shots on goal: 39
Saves: 36
Goals: 3
GAA: 1.5
Save pct: .923

Murdoch at Alaska:
Record: 1-1
Shots on goal: 89
Saves: 85
Goals: 4
GAA: 2.0
Save Pct: .955

Knowing the goofballs at the CCHA, they might just look at the GAA and the shutout and give it to Summerhays. Murdock definitely deserves the honor more though, having faced a lot more shots and having higher saves percentage. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Ninety shots against leaves a lot to the imagination.

Especially for a team that is planning on basing the year around a strong defensive front lol. The CCHA race is a logjam (imagine that) in the early going, our Lakers come home this weekend to play a Ferris State team that Is going on the road for the first time in a month, they are a .500 team thus far this year, however in their only other road series they lost and tied a poor RPI team, hopefully the Lakers can extend FSU's road woes and pick up a sweep.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

How about those 2nd Place Lakers?!?!

The Lakers gave up a pile of shots, but no really dangerous second efforts. Murdock played excellent, and the defense corps did a nice job of letting him see most of the shots and clearing the mess.

Friday, they seemed to run out of steam. I was afraid of that on Saturday, too. But they toughened up. Taranto is an excellent player, and he really gave the Lakers fits all weekend. But too many of UAF's shots were from the the high zone.

A nice big necessary split.

Now they need to take care of business at home.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Any word on Lain's status?

I know nothing.

I have watched some good play from the top lines this season, but I can't help wondering how many good-chances might turn into goals with him on the ice.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Being election day,my vote goes for starting Murdock Friday night .

Ha -- agreed. Let KK heal.

What is great about this situation is -- if KK can come back healthy -- the Lakers have two very good, battle-tested keepers. Once KK comes back, there is a chance to split some series, lighten the workload, and have two excellent-but-rested goalies down the stretch.

I thought Roque probably over-played KK last year, and down the stretch he appeared to tire out a bit. Keeping the goalies fresh would be a great benefit coming from KK's injury. For whatever reason, Coach Roque lkes to roll only with goalies he absolutely trusts. Last year, clearly, he only trusted KK in the pipes. This year, Murdock has given him a reason to trust a valuable two-goalie rotation system.

If KK doesn't come back soon, however, I think Roque will roll with Murdock every start. He clearly doesn't trust Ravn enough to start him, unless there is an emergency.

Just need to get past election day, then its Hunting, Thanksgiving, and Laker hockey ALL month long.

Amen to that, I agree that Roque has probably overplayed KK the past two years, it's a grueling task and not the optimum plan for keeping goalies fresh (or healthy). Now granted in the past, sometimes Roque was basically forced to go with one guy almost by default to even have a chance to win, but that is clearly no longer the case, here's hoping he takes advantage of this fortunate two headed monster of a goaltending duo once KK comes back at 100%.

For the anti-Roque crowd out there is one less argument that can be made at this point in the season that has been made in the past is the performance of the power play, a few years ago the Lakers seem to score a goal on the PP about as often as a full moon came around, now the PP has blossomed, and the Lakers are currently 11th in the country in PP percentage, way to go Lakers and keep it up!

Even when they don't score, the PP has been very good about setting up in the zone and getting some nice chances. There were times, not so many years ago, when we were begging the Lakers to just decline the penalty and skip the PP.

Part of this is my old, former-defenseman attention to the break out passes. The current crop of LSSU D-Men are greatly improved in making outlet passes. They are also greatly improved in making nice smart passes in the offensive zone on the PP. Its not perfect, because we are missing a key scoring player, and we generally do not have a collection of soft-handed gifted goal-scorers. So our PP is not going to score at a 25% clip. But it is surely greatly improved.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Murdock plays the way he did last weekend , Kapalka may be looking at a longer rest .

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

North Country Hockey News: Reports are the Brampton Battalion are moving to North Bay. North Bay lost the beloved 'Cents about ten years ago when a backroom deal saw them stolen out of town and shifted to Saginaw. This is good news for Hounds fans, with the Soo getting another reasonably close rivel back into the fold. Just FYI.

North Bay seems to be on the upswing from a hockey perspective. The Ni****ing Universiy hockey program is only a coupe of years old.

Care to elaborate on the backroom deal? I wasn't aware of this and it sounds interesting lol

Hahaha -- the auto-edit took out the naughty peepee word. I guess the editing programon USCHO.com is not sensative to native words! That is funny.

Ha --No, no, No backroom deals. North Bay simply lost its owner, and its funding. A perfectly viable purchaser scooped up the franchise and moved it to Saginaw, where it has done very well and is, at my last check, quite popular. I'm just bitter.

As for the goali situation -- love it. Competing for spots is what makes teams good.

As for the goalie situation, best case scenario from Roque's perspective is: Kapalka comes back quickly, has a great season and turns pro. Ravn also gets fed up and leaves. That leaves Murdoch and Marble and they'll find a 3rd string goalie who played high school hockey or maybe low level Junior hockey.
