Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

Re: Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

Really? I thought it was later than that.

They do have TV's in the bowling area, but then you add up the additional cost of having to buy bowling games on top of getting food, etc.

Yeah when I went there with family for Carnival they had signs all over the place...I thought it was really strange that it was that early too

Not sure if it's been mentioned but MTU gets to embarass themselves internationally on Friday night. Saw this in my e-mail:

XM Satellite Radio Broadcast Schedule
MEN'S HOCKEY
Date Game Pre-Game Game Time Channel
2/26/2010 Wisconsin @ Michigan Tech N/A 7:00PMET XM 196

From what I can tell, the Saturday game isn't airing, but that may change.

Is it going to be the Dirk feed?

Tech played decent at Denver, here's to keeping up their level of play two weekends in a row.

Also, I haven't been to Houghton for about 4 years but shouldn't the library be an option to grab a drink and watch TV? I'm not sure as I usually headed to the dog, but I was suprised I didn't see it mentioned as an option.

It looks like Tech dropped out of the WCHA or WI switched to the BTHC.

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team is in third place, but the team is coming off of a very strange weekend against St. Cloud. The Badgers lost 5-1 n Friday and won 7-4 on Saturday.

"Offense is a fickle friend or foe," said coach Mike Eaves. "I have talked to Bo (Ryan) about how the ball didn't go in the hoop on a certain night. The same happened to us Friday night. We had as many chances Friday as we did Saturday, the difference was we converted."

The Badgers have four games left on their regular season schedule. They switch to a non-conference weekend Friday and Saturday at Michigan Tech. They are on the road in Minnesota to wrap up the season.

Nice find :D I think that will give you a little insight on the type of news coverage the hockey team gets around here. When we get it, which is not often at all, it is usuallly wrong and filled with errors.

Tech and NMU get better press in the Green Bay Press Gazette than the UW. :(

There's gotta be an unknown source of talented Mexican players. ;)

Wisconsin is actually recruiting a player by the name of Jose Delgadillo who comes from a strong Mexican family. I'm not sure if he was born there but he was eligible to play for Mexico if they qualified for the WJC. Which, they obviously have not.

They played in the world juniors, division 2, group A. They were relegated to division 3 for next year. They got beat 28-0 by Hungary, 12-0 by Korea and 25-1 by Great Brittain.

Re: Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

...maybe we can still get all the Cuban hockey players to defect and come here? :o ;)

They destroyed Turkey in the World Junior B tournament!

I was thinking you'd just get a few soccer players, teach them how to skate, give them a stick and tell them, "It's sorta like football, except less weenie. You can't kick the puck into the net, the hits are serious, and you can actually be rewarded for embellishment." ;)

Interesting
I think the tourney that they beat Turkey in was the U17 or U18, they sucked balls in the U20 World Junior Tourney, how do you give up 28 goals to Hungary?

Well, Hungary's national team did make it into the World Championships in 2009, meaning they were theoretically one of the top 16 teams in the world. Sure they got destroyed there (although they did play a Slovak team without their stars pretty close) but to get to that point they had beaten teams like the Ukraine (with a couple of ex-NHLers) and Japan, who are quite a few steps above Mexico.
