Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

Re: Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

Yeah I definitely recommend trying the Mine Shaft first.

Has that place reopened? It had shutdown, but that was almost a year ago and I left Houghton last June.

If so, I'd go with that place. They had pretty good food and several TVs.

Yup. Reopened this fall, I think. They have a pretty sweet College Night deal every Thursday...

Good luck with that one....them trying to compete with the DT's wings and pitchers is like Versus trying to compete with ESPN for market share.

As we already established, not everyone is old enough to get into the DT though. ;)

Sorry, but when a bar has a "pretty sweet college aged deal" I don't exactly think it is referring to something that would be for people that couldn't get into the DT.

I was thinking that it's probably not just bar specials.

Note: I still agree with you on the wings. Not really a pitchers guy though.

I can't go to the DT until January of my senior year. :(

Thanks for the help, for the food part Applebees isn't real exciting so we may try the Mineshaft out first. My nephews are both in high school, so figured might run into some issues. Applebees sounds like a safe back up plan as I'm guessing the hotel probably won't even have CNBC.

That's what you get for skipping kindergarten. :p
Haha, you're telling me. When I started college, and realized that I could take summer classes and graduate a year early, I quickly slapped myself. No senior walk would be a travesty.

Which hotel are you staying at? If it's the Country Inn & Suites you're right next to the Mine Shaft. (Well, and right by Applebee's as well)

If you're looking for good, authentic northern Italian food, try Gino's or Gemignani's in Hancock. Carmelita's South has very good Mexican food, though the original in Calumet has alcohol, a larger menu, and much more seating. Also, the Ambassador doesn't really have TVs, but they do have very good thin-crust pizza. The Ming Super Buffet is a good-quality Chinese buffet and has a very good menu, and for pasties I'd recommend either Roy's Bakery (in the same minimall as the Ming) or Toni's up in Laurium.

As for TVs... hm. Maybe Quincy's in Dollar Bay? They also have good, reasonably-priced food. You could try the other bars along the strip in Hancock too, Bleachers and Nutini's, and perhaps the Pilgrim River Steakhouse south of Houghton - but call ahead for their hours.

Holiday Inn in Houghton. Wanted to stay at the Country Inn, but they didn't have any rooms left with 2 Beds, had the same issue at the Best Western when we tried to book a month ago.

There is absolutely no excuse if the Badgers dont come away with 4 points this weekend.
After how badly they destroyed Tech at the Kohl earlier this season, even with Tech being on home ice, even if the Badgers play to half of their ability they should still easily win both games.
Thats what makes Tech so dangerous though: they are playing for pride and have nothing left to lose.

It will be interesting to see if UW gets the same push in the PWR and the usless polls if they happen to sweep tech as Denver did. UW needs to win out to probably get a shot at a top 2 overall seed and to play in minneapolis regional. I was surprised by the jump DU got in the PWR after 2 home wins vs TECH

You'll still be quite close.

Also, about Toni's in Laurium as BPH suggested.
Toni's is fantastic. Really. Bakery, pasties, breakfast all day.
Only problem is their hours. Friday 7-5:30, Saturday 7-5.

Tech has beat UMD 2 times this year and st cloud once, enough said.. UW needs to bring there best game both to get 4 points as well as get ready for minnesota the following week. 4 points and a healthy roster are my 2 concerns this week. Tech plays a physical game and tends to bang us up pretty good.

I would guess Denver's bump in the polls had more to do with Miami losing than their sweep of Tech.
