Leopards Ate My Face! The Official Thread.

That said, aren't at least half the farms over there fruit trees? I can't imagine most of that crop is for the export market, being highly perishable.

Soybeans and sugarbeets (processed into refined table sugar) would be though.

They are probably subsidized still they are just getting boned in a completely different way.

They're subsidized up the wazoo. The Government basically pays for our farms. The farm bill like most Red State pork is pretty piggy.

Canada only gets a small amount of sugar from US beets relative to their total consumption. They have their own beet farms.

Per google's AI garbage, only about 45% of produce grown in the US is sold fresh; 55% becomes juice, frozen, canned, etc, and I assume most exports are a part of that 55%, so a loss of the export market could still have a pretty significant impact on farms that are 3 or 4% profitable.

Of course they will. He paid them directly and bailed them out with his last tariffs tantrum.

Why wouldn't they vote for him?

Makes sense...sure we want to give them better equipment, help them keep their farms, not screw with their workforce and keep contracts flowing their way...he actually cares about them so the choice is clear!

I hope they enjoy leasing their own (soon to be formet) property from Amazon in a couple years  :p

Speaking of Deere, they reported less than great outlook on financials due to "tariffs uncertainty," and " weak sales," especially in North America.

CNBC briefly talked about them today, and made mention that the drop in sales also saw an increase in lease equipment due to high interest rates, cost of equipment, and high uncertainty by farmers in long term farming.

Hard to feel bad for the farmers when they keep stepping on rakes.

Bye Bye Farming. Shouldn't have voted for a moron who doesn't give a shit about you. Next time maybe care about those who care about the Farm Bill. Ask Amy Klobuchar about it.

Always surprised me that farmers are so unaware of who works for them or where their product goes. And they are so dumb, they repeat their stupidness. How many corn farmers suffered when exports to Mexico went down? And how many suffered when they all had huge labor shortages dues to immigration factors? And they voted to do it again? Sucks for them.

It’s not going to end farming in the US, but it will shift it a lot more toward corporate farms instead of small ones.

Today I learned that MAGA seems to believe that because of all the "fraud" that DOGE is finding, there is gonna be some increase of their tax returns... You know, give the $$$$ back to the people that paid in...

I just had to shake my head and take my drink and snacks into the locker room so I didn't say something stupid that would result in an HR visit.

(Background: One of the guys pushing this is one of our maintenance guys. Early 60's, born & raised in the rural part of the Chicago area. Earns $70+k/year, but has minimal money put away for retirement. Probably one of, if not THE biggest bigot among the 200 or so people in the building.

So you can see why I had to walk away. He deserves every bit of what's coming to him)

We’re getting closer!!
From Jacob bogage

The acting Social Security commissioner has left the agency after a clash over providing DOGE access to sensitive data

It follows our reporting that DOGE is seeking access to personal financial data at the IRS for every taxpayer, business and nonprofit.
