Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

Firing of head coaches seems to be a pretty rare thing in D3. Like Prez said, there may be more to this than what is being said. Of course, it could just be that the team has performed very poorly under his helm.

Generally speaking, I don't think the pressure to win is as high in D3 hockey as it is at the D1 level. That may be why some programs have been consistently sub-par without any major coaching changes.

Hopefully both sides move on and become better off.

I just simply think that theirs no talent on the team.Coaching can't always solve that problem.

This.

Talent attracts talent. The program has to start getting some guys from established teams/leagues. Some of these kids came from Junior B or crappy Junior A teams. A lot of school's club teams get better recruits.

Bring back MacCormick, he will bring in quality players!!

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

I guess it's back to the drawing board....

“The athletic department is going to head in a different direction now,” said Hutton. “Playing in the ECAC West, there has got to be a commitment and dedication to recruiting. The guys we have now need to be focused on the second half of the season to see if we can get some wins. There needs to be a renewed sense of commitment to working a little harder and holding each other accountable for their actions. From the head coach down to the equipment manager, we have a lot to prove right now.”

100% Agree! I was just thinking that. Who (other than an upstart coach) would want to take the Lebanon Valley job? That just spells disaster.

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

You don't need to be on a winning team to be able to recruit.

Sure, it helps. But look at teams like Neumann, manhattanville, umass-Boston, scholastica, stout, or any number of teams that have gone from losing seasons to winning records.

You need institutional support, active and creative recruiting, as well as the ability to work talent into a system. Easier said than done, but it is possible and has been done before. A lot of the perpetually successful teams have continued success because of these reasons, not simply because they won in the past.

Totally agree, but man they have players from all over the place, seems like there was some serious recruiting done, but perhaps not that good a job of it....good luck to the next guy......

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

The range of recruits/ current players makes me believe little was done to scout or court players...a coach with some ties to an area or league should be able to make an immmediate improvement

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

Certainly surprising given LVC's improvement this season becoming much more competitive in games and not just getting blown out every night.

I'm sure likes oftentimes in college sports, there is more than meets the eye with this story...

I'm wondering whether LVC has decided to drop hockey. :(

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

The writting is on the wall here guys....RIP LVC hockey. A sad day for the Ecac West and Division III college hockey altogether. Expect an announcement at seasons end that LVC is folding their hockey program.
