Laker Hockey 2009-10

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I wonder what the odds are that Jim Roque is head coach for 2010-2011 and beyond? If we finish 10th or below this season, is Roque done or do you think his job is safe for the future no matter what?
I'm not sure what kind of contract he has, but finishing near the bottom again might put him in trouble. Other things to consider: his relationships with the AD and whomever the new president will be (or maybe even the interim pres depending upon how long he is in charge). I don't think his job is safe indefinitely; he hasn't earned that type of safety yet. There are probably only a few coaches in all of college hockey that have earned that.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

If he does indeed have a new contract and i don't think so then why not a press release. Oh yeah fans up here have had enough of him.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Interesting rumors that you are trying to start, TruthSquad.

I think Coach Roque is safe now with a new contract and support from the University. It's common knowledge that he had fallen from grace with the former president and the former A.D. but the timing of changes at the top probably helped him secure a new contract and I've heard he and his wife are in deep with current administrators that survived the past couple of years. The switch in radio stations was also a positive for the Laker coach and one that he most likely helped secure as you could sense that Bill Crawford had grown tired of the programs direction in recent years. I didn't understand why changing radio stations brought so much attention on this board until the link between the manager of the radio station that will cover Laker hockey and the Laker coach was explaiined. It appears Jim Roque will be the Laker coach for a very long time.

Interview with Coach Roque with the new voice of the Lakers Paul VanWagoner from Wednesday of this week.

So, I guess it's pretty evident that Paula still trolls the threads to get her info when writing articles.
We'll have to pull a "northern" and spread outlandish rumors that she'll cite as fact instead of really calling the university to verify. As dumb as that was, it's still hilarious that it really happened.

Anyways... LSSU's "pink in the rink" weekend is OCT 23/24 vs. OSU this year. Last year it was a pretty good success, considering the snowstorm that hit that weekend. If any out of town Laker fans are looking for an excuse to make the roadtrip this is a good a reason as any.

To be fair, SaveUAHHockey.com and other sources hammered down on that interview, too. Admittedly, we found out about it here. :)

When UAH is ultimately admitted to the CCHA, I'll try to make at least one road trip to Huntsville to see the Lakers play them. Granted I'm about 5 hours closer to Huntsville than Laker fans in the Soo area. :)

And there's no problem with that, really, since this report had some credibility behind it by being media driven. I was actually drawing attention to how she's done that in the past and got burned, yet the practice continues.

Hopefully gfmorris and the rest of the UAH gang will soon be CCHA members and learn to dislike Paula like the rest of us.

I was a bit surprised to learn that UAH was offering to pay some of the travel costs for visiting teams. You'd think Lake State would jump at the chance to add another team to the league willing to offset travel costs.

We may have. It could very well be a few of the other CCHA teams holding things up.

Understand that I've dealt with Paula as a fellow USCHO columnist [CHA in 2002-3] and like her okay. That doesn't mean I always agree with her. ;)

It's not a matter of agreeing with. It's a matter of multiple factual errors in every single thing she writes.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

When is the first day of unofficial (Captains) practice? Should be fairly soon. School begins in a week.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

The first Jim Roque Show on 1400 is on Monday the 31st. I bet he'll say then when the practices start.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Agree 100% and that I think is why Crawford and Francis turned them down. They were determined to get their own people in there and those two didn't want any part of it. Ties that bind and some coaches are thrown to the wolves, while others are protected.

The Truth Is Out There....

Oh geez ... I'm glad this one has been put to bed. I called it a L-O-N-G time ago - VanWagoner and Ellis. Crawford and Francis were NEVER a consideration.
