Laker Hockey 2009-10

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

No, Truthy, I have not called a hockey game. I get nervous when I see microphones.

But can you let this go now? We're all thrilled Francis will cure cancer and third world hunger in the next year, but let's move on. Once the season starts I'm sure you'll be the new broadcast team's harshest critic, so that is something to look forward to.

As to the new recruit signing, it looks like a good catch. It says other teams were after him, wonder which ones.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Hey maybe one of the new radio guy's can help with the non-existent powerless play. And i hope they will travel on the long trips, no more womans hockey announcers from the other team or that other fella up in fairbanks.

I think it was Crawfords time but he did do a heck of a job, thank you Bill for a job well done.

Whoa, I guess so. This kid must have some kind of wheels or he's a threat to score every time he's on the ice. Look at his PP and PK stats. Nice PP points totals, but what really stands out is he scored 7 short handed goals during the season & 3 more in the playoffs. Being named captain of the team this year speaks well for his character too, I would think.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I listened to Francis call Laker games. He was very good, especially for a high schooler. Truth be told, it wasn't him that I was poking fun at... :D

Make your jokes, your snide comments and have a good laugh. How many others can say they broadcast NCAA Division I hockey while in high school for over 2 years. Can you Dopey or Neil Diamond say you have a nationally syndicated radio show featuring NHL players, GM's and more? I didn't think so! Just remember the truth shall set you free and know that Francis would have made a terrific play-by-play announcer had he not decided to stay where he was. We'll see how VanWaggonor and Elles pan out.

Francis could do announce all 30 NHL teams and I don't find your humour very funny at all.

The Truth Is Out There.....

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

This will be a big year for recruiting for the Lakers. They have 8 Juniors-to-be that need to be replaced; 4F, 2D and 2G. From strictly a numbers standpoint, they already have 4 verbals at F for next year, so they may not be spending too much more time looking for additional 2010 recruits there. But we have 2 key D that need to be replaced, in Kaunisto and Gysbers, so recruiting for that position will be critical over the course of the season. At G, I think Marble is still an unknown quantity for next season; how he performs at TC this season will determine how much additional effort they will spend in finding an additional goalie for 2010.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I, for one, still can't get over the fact that LSSU changed their classic uniforms and even use a different anchor now. Every increasingly rare chance I get to see them play (live far from Michigan now) and photo I see, it just doesn't seem like Laker Hockey to me.

With the recession, I sometimes wonder if LSSU can stick around in D1 hockey. How is the program/school doing financially?

Honestly the question is no longer will the Laker Hockey team survive as a D-1entity but rather will Lake Superior State University survive as an independent 4 year degree granting institution.

Yeah, things are that bad up here.

Truth...Now it all makes sense. Francis will be the new voice of the Quad City Mallards as his dad was just named their head coach. Next stop Hockey Night in Canada hey truth.

Best of luck to the new guys doing the broadcasts and thanks to Bill Crawford for all the great years and memories behind the mic. Lets hope this new era of Laker hockey translates on the air and on the ice.

So my question is the truth still out there?

Thanks for the info...know a G who may be back on the market...

Wow, I didn't realize it had gotten THAT bad. I knew it had been slipping and heard about the problems with the last administration, but yikes.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

As for the state of LSSU, I haven't heard things are any better or worse than they are for any other university during these trying times. LSSU meets an important regional need, and I don't see it going anywhere soon.

As for Truth Squid (sigh), I'm glad Francis is now on the verge of taking Ken Kal's job in Detroit, and I'm even more happy that even though everything you told us this summer concerning the new broadcast team was wrong, you still claim you were right.

Well done.

Congrats to Frank on his new gig. Hopefully the league has a strong year, because it has struggled in the past.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I wonder what the odds are that Jim Roque is head coach for 2010-2011 and beyond? If we finish 10th or below this season, is Roque done or do you think his job is safe for the future no matter what?

Also, screw the CCHA for denying Alabama Huntsville.

This could be a make or break year for Roque and I think the Lakers will be picked to finish in the bottom three.

Alabama Huntsville appears to have been given a raw deal.

I think Coach Roque is safe now with a new contract and support from the University. It's common knowledge that he had fallen from grace with the former president and the former A.D. but the timing of changes at the top probably helped him secure a new contract and I've heard he and his wife are in deep with current administrators that survived the past couple of years. The switch in radio stations was also a positive for the Laker coach and one that he most likely helped secure as you could sense that Bill Crawford had grown tired of the programs direction in recent years. I didn't understand why changing radio stations brought so much attention on this board until the link between the manager of the radio station that will cover Laker hockey and the Laker coach was explaiined. It appears Jim Roque will be the Laker coach for a very long time.

You don't think there was a link between the former radio station and someone high up in the LSSU admin? Regardless, let's see what kind of package we get with Northern Star. If it leads to expanded coverage of Laker hockey, as they are saying it will, isn't that a good thing?

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Truth.....
Neither Bill Crawford nor Francis Anzalone "turned them down." The agenda was set by the hockey coach and the AD. Bill's comments are right on.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

In the real world, one must actually be offered something first if they are going to turn it down.

But, why sweat the small stuff.
