L V C Hockey Program Is Over

Re: L V C Hockey Program Is Over

The Sooper
ECAC-E (sans D-II) and ECAC-W combine
Code:
[B]CCCP[/B] [B]Pretzel[/B]
Norwich Hobart
Castleton Elmira
NEC Manhattanville
Babson Utica
UNE Neumann
USM Skidmore
UMB
Each division plays intra 2x and inter 1x for 18 games (CCCP) or 17 games (Pretzel). Top 3 in each conference are automatic tournament qualifiers and then the next best 2 teams for positions 7 and 8.

After the two Little East (USM, UMB) teams depart for the MASCAC/Little East conference in 11-12 you play everyone 2x for a total of 20 conference games. Most teams would play H & H each year, but teams in out of the way locations may want to consider 2 game series (home one yr, away the other) to save on travel costs.

More likely that Manhattanville will petition to go to the ECAC-East, and could be allowed in (I believe they have expressed interest in that before now). I doubt the rest of the East has much desire to schedule the rest of the west due to travel costs.

I heard the negotiations were similar to this sequence of events:

Manhattanville = Hillary Duff
The ECAC East = Mike Comrie

Enjoy.

If Manhattanville punts to the East, what happens to Neumann? They're hanging in a remote outpost and costs will be prohibitive - they might be the next casualty.

Keep the West as it is, move Skiddy over and then work out an interlock with the East or affiliate with the SUNYAC. Either way they have to find a marriage partner.

How bout this?

Castleton, Norwich, and Skidmore go to the west to make an 8 team league.
Babson, Mass-Boston and Southern Maine go to MASCAC to make a 10 team league.
NEC and UNE to the Northeast to make a 10 team league.

That would leave us with.

West
Castleton
Elmira
Hobart
Manhattanville
Neumann
Norwich
Skidmore
Utica
*Play everyone twice

MASCAC
Babson
Fitchburg
Framingham
Plymouth
Salem
Southern ME
Umass-B
Umass-D
Westfield
Worcester
*Play everyone twice

Northeast
Becker
Curry
Johnson and Wales
NEC
Nichols
Salve
Suffolk
UNE
Wentworth
WNEC
*Play everyone twice

All conferences would have an autobid and pool C bids would remain at 3.

But don't enjoy at work!

As an ACHA D-1 observer for the past 8 years - I'm not sure a team that's 0-fer the past two seasons will do much better in our little corner of the hockey world.

Having said that, LVC perhaps could wind up in the ESCHL with Penn State, Rhode Island, Delaware, West Chester and Robert Morris, but not next season.

Re: L V C Hockey Program Is Over

The ECAC West has had their answer in their backyards for years. It is Hamilton. Location wise it makes more sense for Hamilton to play in the ECAC West. It would also give Elmira/Utica/Hobart a travel partner. If the ECAC West was able to get Skidmore to their league would it not give them an automatic qualifier at some point in time??

If they got skidmore AND hamilton, then yes they'd get an automatic qualifier after 2 years. If they only got one of them, then no, no qualifier (you need 7 teams.)

Hamilton fits in the nescac academically and philosophically though, so I doubt that would happen annnytime soon.

Re: L V C Hockey Program Is Over

Here's my suggestion for restructuring. It'll never happen, but it's a valid suggestion:

ECAC-E dumps the D-II teams. It's bad for College Hockey as a whole, but it's a good thing for the ECAC teams.

The Eact and the Northeast each give the one school geographically located closest to the ECAC-W (Skidmore and Western NE). This results in an even distribution of 7 teams in each of the 3 leagues (for a total of 21). 6 opponents, 3 times each, results in a uniform 18-game conference schedule.

This would look thusly:
Code:
[B][U]West[/U][/B] [B][U]East[/U][/B] [B][U]Northeast[/U][/B]
Elmira Babson Becker
Hobart Castleton	Curry
Mahattanville	NEC J&W
Neumann Norwich Nichols
Skidmore	Southern Maine	Salve Regina
Utica UMB Suffolk
Western NE	UNE Wentworth

Now, if/when the Little East Schools leave for the MASCAC, thing get a bit more interesting. This would leave 19 teams in the ECAC DIII Leagues. Because 19 < (7*3), that means the existence of 3rd league necessitates one no-AQ conference. That is, of course the problem that caused us to look for restructuring in the first place!

One possible suggestion to this issue would be for the East and Northeast to each give one further team of closest geographic proximity to the West, and the combine themselves. This creates a 9-team ECAC-W and a 10-team ECAC-E, and nothing else in ECAC DIII Men's Ice Hockey. These leagues would look something like this:

Code:
[B][U]West[/U][/B] [B][U]East[/U][/B]
Castleton	Babson
Elmira Becker
Hobart Curry
Manhattanville	J&W
Neumann NEC
Nichols Norwich
Skidmore Salve
Utica Suffolk
Western NE	UNE
		Wentworth

But these two suggestions are about as likely to happen as the ECAC-superleague. In other words, the will not happen, but they are at least a valid option.

Re: L V C Hockey Program Is Over

Russell was unimpressive as a coach!
The current rostered players will not find homes in other schools who would go there!
0-50 says it all. How did that happen?
They recruited poorly which affected greatly those who would consider the school. Winning brings winners loosing brings a death spiral.

Really? All of those players were successful on the ice BEFORE they got to LVC! How many times have young players been told they are rebuilding and they are going to be an integral part of the team? Sold a bill of goods by the coach and the administration, you are successful from the top down. And last time I checked you did what your COACH(haha) told you or you saw no ice time! It is easy to stay and play when you are winning, but the true test of an athlete is to stay and play when you are constantly losing! And 0-50 happened because the school kept a coach that had no business being a coach! Just because you played professionally does not mean you can coach.
Shame on you for trashing a dedicated group of young men who had the guts to go out there and give it all they had every game, knowing that their coach had no business being on the bench, knowing that they had more than they were able to show, and knowing that every team took them as a joke! Winners never quit! And I would challege you to find a better group of kids. There is a fan page on Facebook~Save LVC Hockey, I urge all of you to check it out and see what these young men have done for their school and their community.

Well you just did! Thank you so much for taking the time to do that, and for joining. I appreciate it. This just doesn't affect a conference or automatic bids, but actually affects the future of a good group of student athletes. Thanks again!
